Something strange has been happening to me lately: Women in the street have been telling me I'm brave. My act of courage isn't much—16___________
I had brown hair that started going gray when I was 30. So, like a lot of women, I started dyeing it. 17_________ And my hair grew fast, so I needed to go back to the hair salon every five weeks. Many people seem to enjoy holding on to their youth for as long as possible. But our hair starts to turn gray and we start spending $500 or more a year to cover something our male colleagues don't need to cover.
18______________—my mother is 91 and still has "blond" hair, and why not I just wish more of us would feel that it was OK to be ourselves because going gray has done more for me than saving me time and money. 19 ___________ I like how it has gotten curly and full again. It is recovering after years of being damaged by chemicals. I also like that it has given me some needed perspective in a society that makes youth seem so important, while being against maturity.
When I see my hair in the mirror, it's a reminder that my time is not infinite, and I should spend it doing what matters. 20 ____________ I see my gray hair as a little act of rebellion against the idea that people lose value as they age, instead of gaining it.
A. Enjoy whatever life gives time.
B. Dyeing made me look younger.
C. I just stopped coloring my hair.
D. I like my natural hair, just as it is.
E. It was expensive and time-consuming.
F. Of course, people should do what they want with their own body.
G. And pretending it's not happening is a way of giving up our power.

All left-handed humans have not had it easy in the world. In many cultures and in the dark ages left-handed people have generally been seen as the devil.
The word “left” in English comes from the Anglo-Saxon word “lyft”,which means weak or broken. The Oxford English Dictionary defines “left-handed” as meaning defective, awkward or clumsy. ___16___ A “left-handed compliment” and a “left-handed marriage” can be set as examples. The former does not mean sincere praise but indicates an insult. The latter, as you may notice, refers to an illegal or informal marriage, which, in particular, involves one side of royal or noble birth and the other of lower rank.
In some certain cultures, things go beyond that. ___17___ In Nigeria, for instance, taking or giving anything to anyone with your left hand is assumed that you lack home training.
___18___ Many people around you in China, if asked, would tell you they were forced by their parents or teachers, to write with their right hand. Strangely enough, none of those elders can say what an actual problem there is with left-handedness. If it has to do with the fear of that child not being prosperous, there are a lot of left-handed personalities doing well and breaking grounds. The possible explanation here maybe lies in their long- held prejudice. ___19___
Two-thirds of the world still view left-handedness as a shortcoming but it isn't. ___20___That is what C. R. Manske points out, “Life without left-handed people wouldn't be right. ”
A. And that is not the only case.
B. The following two examples can best reflect this point.
C. A tiny gesture or movement with the left hand can mean a lot.
D. Namely, people tend to believe in common ideas instead of the reality.
E The way forward for the left-handers is for them to be accepted as they are.
F. Certain phrases in English suggest a rather negative view of “left-handedness”.
G. In other words, different deep-rooted beliefs originate from different cultures.

How much is a child's future success determined by born intelligence Most guess around 25 percent, even 50 percent. 16 So if IQ is only a minor factor in success, what is it that separates the low earners from the high ones
Science doesn't have a definitive answer, although luck certainly plays a role. But another key factor is personality. Financial success was correlated with conscientiousness, a particular quality in your personality marked by diligence, perseverance and self-discipline.
Grades at school and achievement-test results were markedly better predictors of adult success than raw IQ scores. 17 After all, don't they all measure the same thing Not quite. Grades reflect not just intelligence but also " non-cognitive skills ", such as perseverance, good study habits and the ability to collaborate. Personality counts.
18 A research suggests childhood interventions (介入)can be helpful, and that conscientiousness is more malleable (可塑的)than IQ. Openness—a broad quality that includes curiosity—is also connected to test scores and grades.
19 Someone with an IQ of 70 isn't going to be able to do things that are easy for a person with an IQ of 190. But many people fail to break into the job market because they lack skills that aren’t measured on intelligence tests. They don't understand how to behave with kindness in job interviews. 20 Or on the job, they make it obvious they'll do no more than the minimum, if that.
A. IQ still matters, of course.
B. That might seem surprising.
C. They may show up late or fail to dress properly.
D. How much difference between people's incomes can be tied to IQ
E. But the data suggest a much smaller influence: about 1 or 2 percent.
F. The higher the better for IQ, and perhaps for conscientiousness as well.
G. Success depends not just on born ability but on skills that can be taught.

C 17. E 18. F 19. D 20. G
根据下文“I had brown hair that started going gray when I was 30. So, like a lot of women, I started dyeing it.(我的头发是棕色的,30岁时开始变白。所以,像很多女人一样,我开始染头发)”以及第三段“I just wish more of us would feel that it was OK to be ourselves because going gray has done more for me than saving me time and money. 能承接上文“Women in the street have been telling me I’m brave. My act of courage isn’t much(街上的女人都说我很勇敢。
根据下文“And my hair grew fast, so I needed to go back to the hair salon every five weeks. Many people seem to enjoy holding on to their youth for as long as possible. But our hair starts to turn gray and we start spending $500 or more a year to cover something our male colleagues don’t need to cover.
根据上文“I just wish more of us would feel that it was OK to be ourselves because going gray has done more for me than saving me time and money.
根据上文“When I see my hair in the mirror, it’s a reminder that my time is not infinite, and I should spend it doing what matters.(当我在镜子里看到自己的头发时,它提醒我,我的时间不是无限的,我应该把它花在重要的事情上)”可知,当我们的头发变白了,我们应该知道我们的时间更宝贵了,更应把时间花在重要的事情上,而不是忽略这个问题,故选项G“假装它没有发生是我们放弃我们权力的一种方式。”符合语境,进而引出下文的哲理“I see my gray hair as a little act of rebellion against the idea that people lose value as they age, instead of gaining it.(我把我的白发看作是对“人的价值会随着年龄的增长而下降,而不是增加”这一观点的小小反抗)”,故选G。

F 17. C 18. A 19. D 20. E
前句“The Oxford English Dictionary defines "left-handed" as meaning defective, awkward or clumsy.”(牛津英语词典将“左撇子”定义为有缺陷、笨拙的人。) 承接上文,进一步阐述除了字典定义外,连日常短语中也对“左撇子”带有偏见,并且引出后句“A “left-handed compliment” and a “left-handed marriage” can be set as examples.”(“左撇子的恭维”和“左撇子的婚姻”可做例子。)
前句“In some certain cultures, things go beyond that.”(在某些特定文化中,事情不止如此。) ,进一步说明“左撇子”暗含深意多,引出后句“In Nigeria, for instance, taking or giving anything to anyone with your left hand is assumed that you lack home training.”(举例来说,在尼日利亚,用左手拿或给东西被视作缺乏家教。)
上一段“In some certain cultures, things go beyond that.”(在某些文化中,事情远不止这些。) ,是对“左撇子”偏见的进一步举例说明,承接上文,并且引起下文 “Many people around you in China, if asked, would tell you they were forced by their parents or teachers, to write with their right hand.”(在中国,你周围的许多人,如果被问到,会告诉你他们是被父母或老师强迫用右手写字的。) 故选A项。
前句“The possible explanation here maybe lies in their long- held prejudice.”(这里可能的解释可能在于他们长期以来的偏见。) 中的tend to believe in common ideas,是对“长期偏见”的解释说明。
前句“Two-thirds of the world still view left-handedness as a shortcoming but it isn't.”(世界上三分之二的人仍然认为左撇子是缺点,但是它不应该这样。) 进一步说明作者对于“左撇子”正确的态度,并且引出下文“That is what C. R. Manske points out, “Life without left-handed people wouldn't be right.
