一、课时教学内容分析
本模块为此单元的第一课时。本单元的主题语境是“人与自然”,涉及的主题语境内容是人类与自然和谐相处。Starting out介绍了“水上城市”威尼斯面临的问题及解决方案,旨在激活学生已有的语言、背景知识。本版块呈现了一篇反映单元主题的课文,语篇类型为说明文,介绍了位于广西壮族自治区桂林市龙胜各族自治县的龙脊梯田,描绘了龙脊梯田在不同季节的美景,讲述了当地少数民族建造梯田的原因,以及梯田的运作原理。通过学习,学生可以了解人类对自然的合理利用与改造,体会当地人民与自然的和谐相处,熟悉当地人的环保观念。
二、学情分析
本班学生是高一学生。学生英语基础较好,男生较多,大部分学生思维活跃,英语学习热情高,课堂表现欲望强烈,乐于表达发表自己的观点和看法,合作精神较好。对于说明文的文体有所了解,但是如何深挖语篇主题,理解文章背后深层含义还有一定困难。根据这些特点,基于“阅读圈”的理念,我设计了本节课,既照顾到大多数学生,鼓励每个学生参与到课堂活动中来,通过小组合作激发学生学习英语的兴趣,培养合作能力,同时培养学生的高阶思维能力。
三、学习目标
1. 能够充分理解文章的结构。
2. 能够欣赏龙脊梯田的美以及背后蕴含的人类智慧。
3. 能够培养与自然和谐相处的意识。
四、学习重难点
重点:
能够欣赏龙脊梯田的美及背后的文化传统。
能够了解当地少数民族建造梯田的原因及运作原理。
难点:
1.能够通过阅读圈的方式,理解梯田蕴含的人类智慧以及人类与自然和谐相处的主题。
2.能够通过自主探究,自主解疑,探讨人与自然和谐相处的其他方式。
五、学习评价
课后,请参照以下问题对自己的学习情况进行评价:
1)能否根据文章标题对文章内容进行预判?
2)能否理清文章的篇章结构并且画出相应的思维导图?
3)能否根据流程图复述梯田的工作原理?
4)能否充分理解文章的长难句?

Lead in T: 1. Show students some pictures of Longji Rice Terraces, and told students that these are the pictures taken by my colleague Mr. Wu when he went to the terraces last summer vacation. Ask students: Do you know about Longji Rice Terraces Play a video about Longji Rice Terraces, and ask students: 1)What do you think of Longji Rice Terraces 2)What do you want to know about it S: Watch the video and answer the questions. 利用图片和视频,创设情境,引出话题,带领学生初步感受龙脊梯田的美景,并且通过视频对梯田的简要介绍,让学生讨论对梯田的初步印象以及想要了解关于梯田的知识,激发学生的兴趣,形成阅读期待。
While-reading
Step 1 Read for main idea T: 1. Ask students to read the passage and answer the question: What’s the author’s purpose 2. Ask students to read the passage again and summarize the key words of each paragraph. S: Read the passage and find out the author’s purpose and summarize the main idea of each paragraph. 学生自主阅读,关注文章的主旨,引领学生归纳、总结文章的段落大意,了解文章的结构,体验作者思维过程,为后面画思维导图的做好铺垫。
Step 2 Read for detail 赏美景 T: 1. Ask students to read Paragraph 1 and find out what color the terraces are in different seasons. 2:Ask students: What do you think of scenery of Longji Rice Terraces S: Read Paragraph 1 and find out different colors of Longji Rice Terraces. Appreciate the beautiful scenery of the terraces and express their feeling. 培养学生抓住文章中关键细节的语言技能,通过展示龙脊梯田四季不同的照片,让学生欣赏梯田的美景,并且感受语言的美。同时总结龙脊梯田的特点之一——景色优美。
品文化 T: 1. Ask students to read Paragraph 2 and answer the questions: Who built the terraces When did the terraces build How long did it take to build the terraces 2.Let Ss summarize the cultural value of the terraces. S: Read Paragraph 2 and find out the answers to the questions. 引导学生关注龙脊梯田的悠久历史,理解语篇反映的文化价值,并且总结龙脊梯田的另一特点——文化财富。
析原因 T:1.Ask students to read Paragraph 3 and answer the questions: 1)Why did people go to so much trouble to turn the entire mountain into terraces 2)What do you think of the people who built the terraces 2.Ask students: Why do you think the people are clever S: Read Paragraph 3 and find out the answers to the questions. 引导学生归纳、分析和概括语篇主要的信息。通过分析当地存在的问题以及建立梯田后解决的问题,让学生意识到古人的智慧,并且通过问题链让学生理解作者的写作意图,学会推断语篇中的隐含意义,即人类尊重自然,顺应自然法则,合理利用自然的主题。

Step 3 Reading circle 阅读圈任务 T: 1. Introduce reading circle and tasks Four roles: Summarizer, Theme analyzer, Life connector and Publicity ambassador. Tasks: 1). Summarizer: Draw a mind map of whole passage. 2). Theme analyzer: What makes Longji Rice Terraces a great wonder 3). Life connector: In what other ways do people live in harmony with nature Give examples. 4). Publicity ambassador: Assuming that you are a Publicity Ambassador of Longji, how do you introduce Longji rice terraces to visitors. 2. Ask students to work in groups of 4, each undertaking one role and finishing relative tasks. S: Choose one role and prepare answers. 通过阅读圈的引入,引导学生深度理解,培养学生自主探究、自主解疑的思维品质。 四个角色的设置各有特点,总结者是对文章结构的解读,主题分析者是探究主题意义,强调人与自然和谐相处的主题,生活联系者是对文章所学的迁移运用,宣传大使是内化课时所学,进行有效输出。 学生可根据自己的能力和实际选择合适的任务,让不同层次的学生能够参与到课堂中来。

The Amazon rainforest:a natural treasure
Welcome to the jungle, a huge sea of green alive with the sounds of animals. This is the Amazon rainforest. As the largest rainforest in the world, it plays a significant role in maintaining the fine balance of the Earth’s ecosystem.
The Amazon rainforest crosses into eight countries, including Brazil and Peru, and one overseas region of France, all on the South American continent. With an area of around 6 million square kilometers, the Amazon rainforest is more than half the size of China. The Amazon River, from which the rainforest gets its name, is close to 6,400 kilometers in length—roughly 100 kilometers longer than the Yangtze River. On its journey from the mountains to the ocean, the river supports many different ecosystems. They give this area the richest biodiversity on the Earth: one in ten known species in the world can be found here.
Of the 390,000 plant species known to us, more than 40,000 can be found in the Amazon. This tall and ancient brazil nut tree produces nuts that we can eat; these water lilies are big enough to lie down on. The forest’s different levels support an unbelievable variety of wildlife. At the bottom, there is a system of roots beneath the ground. Above that is the mass of leaf litter on the dark forest floor. The next level is made up of shorter plants with large leaves. Then there are the towering ancient hardwoods, and finally the tops of the tallest trees many meters above the ground. Each level of the forest forms its own little world, home to different kinds of living things.
More than 1,300 species of birds and over 400 species of mammals hide among the jungle’s plant life. This jaguar is one example. It has a yellowish-brown coat with black spots. While a significant number of jaguars survive here, they are only one element of this forest’s food chain. They feed on at least 87 species, including frogs. These frogs, in turn, feed on insects which eat leaves and fruit. When a jaguar dies, a tiny army of microorganisms helps break down its body and return the nutrients to the earth.
The Amazon rainforest breathes life into the planet by fixing carbon and producing over 20 per cent of all the Earth’s oxygen. Thus, it is often known as the “lungs of the planet”. Moreover, the Amazon rainforest is a treasure house of species that can be used for food or medicine. Yet there is one major danger to these irreplaceable plants and animals: us. Over the past 50 years, about 17 per cent of the rainforest has disappeared due to human activities such as agriculture and cattle farming. As the impact of human activities continues to grow and the list of species in danger of extinction becomes longer, we are left with a question: can we afford to damage the “lungs of the planet”
