Clear Your Plate Campaign
World Food Day which falls on October 16th is drawing near. There is no denying that food waste has become a serious problem on campus. We can see some students dumping leftovers without feeling guilty. So it is high time that we should call for an end to it.
On the one hand, we should start it with ourselves to save food, for instance, do not order too much, pack up the leftovers, and don’t be particular about food. On the other hand, we can persuade others to join the fight with us. Tough and big as the task is, I’m sure, with everyone doing his bit, we will change the present situation for the better.
Let’s take action and make some contributions to saving food.

I promise you are going to enjoy your stay here in Los Cabos. This is a beautiful, quiet city where you can relax, sit by the beach, enjoy great meals and feel very safe. You can walk into town and enjoy the fountains or take a moonlit walk along the water. Suntan Tours offers a variety of special discounts depending on your travel plans. There will be a short information session at 1:00 pm in the hall of the hotel tomorrow where you can learn all about these offers. If you need to exchange your dollars into pesos, please use a bank or money exchange. We don’t recommend exchanging your money neither at the hotel nor at a scenery spot because you won’t get a fair rate. Also, if you want to get around the city, you’d better take the local bus. If you do decide to take a taxi, make sure that you negotiate a price before you go.

故选A项。

he Future of Handshakes
As workers return to the office, friends me et up and religious services move from online to in person, people are asking the question: to shake hands or not to shake hands
When the coronavirus crisis first began, an event planning business in Kansas City began selling "I Shake Hands" stickers. The words were meant to make social situations easier.
"We didn't want the sticker to say, 'We Don't Shake Hands' because that is kind of off-putting," said John DeLeon, vice president of operations and sales at MTI Event in Kansas City. "But if someone had the sticker on in that group, then that was the indication that it was OK."
DeLeon added that those who did not want to shake hands with others could simply choose not to wear a sticker.
The handshake has been around for centuries. A widely held belief is that it started as a way to show that a person was offering peace and not holding a hidden weapon.
But hands have germs.
Dr. Anthony Fauci is America's leading infectious disease expert. Last year, he warned, "I don't think we should ever shake hands again, to be honest with you."
Dr. Amesh Adalja, another infectious disease expert, does not agree. He thinks people are overthinking the question of whether to shake hands or not. The answer, he says, is simple.
"If you are worried about COVID, the best way to make handshakes safe is to be fully vaccinated," Dr. Adalja said. "And for any other things that might be on people's hands, just wash your hands before you touch your face."
Diane Gottsman is a national etiquette expert. Etiquette means the rules that make up the correct way to behave in a culture. Gottsman said she does not think the handshake will go away because of the pandemic. But she said people should take things slowly.
"Don't be the first to extend your hand, even if you are comfortable," Gottsman said. "Watch the other person and allow them to extend their greeting of choice."
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has said publicly he does not like shaking hands because germs on hands can pass. However, he faced criticism in the early days of the pandemic when he continued shaking hands at public events.
The administration of President Joe Biden at first took social distancing more seriously. But following the end of federal guidance on face coverings and more widespread availability of vaccines, handshakes and even hugs returned to the White House.
Lizzie Post is the great-great-granddaughter of another etiquette expert, Emily Post. She said the country is entering a time similar to the start of the pandemic, when people wanted to know if others were socially distancing before getting close to them.
Now the question is whether family, friends and coworkers are vaccinated. Post says she likes to announce that she is vaccinated, and then ask directly whether a person wants a hug or handshake.
She does not think the handshake is going away.
"It is a really hard greeting to deny because it has been so ingrained since we were kids or young adults," Post said. "And I see that being more powerful than the past year of not practicing it..."
Business Law Southwest advises businesses in New Mexico, Arizona and Texas. At the beginning of the pandemic, it offered to help create new workplace rules — such as a no-handshake policy. But there was not enough interest, said Kristy Donahue, a company spokeswoman.
"At the end of the day," Donahue said, "people crave human interaction and human touch."

故将while改为when。
此处指代前文“a bottle of milk”,应用代词it。故将them改为it。
由noise后的定语“made by our decoration”可知,此处特指装修造成的噪音,需用定冠词the。故将a改为the。
故在show前添加to。

Qatar, a tiny Middle East country, almost entirely surrounded by the turquoise
warm waters, offers plenty of beaches to enjoy a refreshing dip. From family-friendly
sands to an emerging kitesurfing destination, get ready to dive in.
Katara Beach
If you want to swim in the ocean but don’t want to adventure beyond the capital of
Doha, Katara Beach is the place to go. It is a pleasant sandy stretch with lounge chairs,
shaded areas ideal for sheltering kids from the hot sun, water sports ground and a wide
children’s play area. With food vans and restaurants just steps from the sand, you don’t
need to go far to find lunch.
Fuwairit Beach
The soft white sands of Fuwairit Beach on Qatar’s northeast coast, about an hour’s
drive north of Doha, are surrounded by shallow, crystal-blue waters appropriate for
diving. The kitesurfing season runs from January to June, and with a kitesurfing resort
due to open in late 2023 on this undeveloped beach, it’ll be easier than ever to arrange
relevant lessons and transport.
AI Shamal Beach
2
For constant views of the sun setting over the ocean, head to Qatar’s north coast.
The super shallow and rocky beaches up here aren’t the best for swimming, but when
the sun goes down, AI Shamal Beach is a fine spot to take in the scenery. You’ll find
public bathrooms and seats along the Corniche. Several simple dining options can be
found in the neighboring villages.
Simaisma Beach
North of Doha, Simaisma Beach is Qatar’s most developed public beach after
Katara Beach, with plenty of family-friendly facilities. With calm, shallow waters and
mangroves to explore at the northern end of the beach, it’s great for kids, but the soft,
muddy sand may be imperfect for building sandcastles.
21.What can visitors do on Fuwairit Beach at present
A.Dive in the shallow sea. B.Participate in surf courses.
C.Fly kites along the coast. D.Sunbathe on a lounge chair.
22.What kind of people does AI Shamal Beach attract most

According to a new study in the online PLOS ONE, people make their decisions to
trust others largely based on their faces. Your appearance can do a lot for you, especially
if you are in the financial industry. The more trustworthy you look, the more likely
people will buy what you’re selling.
Researchers from Britain’s University of Warwick Business School, University
College London, and Dartmouth College, US, did a number of experiments. The
research team used computer software to make 40 faces, from the least to the most
trustworthy-looking. The study said that the difference between a trustworthy face and
one that isn’t as trustworthy comes from features that look slightly (稍微) angry or
slightly happy, even when the face is at rest. However, a slightly happy face is more likely
to be trusted.
Researchers gave participants some money and asked them which face they trusted
to invest (投资) the money for them. Then researchers gave some good and bad
information about the people with these faces, and asked the participants again whom
they trusted. The results showed that even if they got different information, the
participants didn’t change their choices. They were still more likely to invest their
money with the more trustworthy-looking faces.
Chris Olivola, one of the study’s authors, said in the University of Warwick’s press
release: “It seems we are still willing to go with our feelings about whether we think
someone looks like that we can trust them. The desire to judge strangers by their faces is
hard to resist.”

The letter’s tones echo those in another open letter that Musk-along with more than
3, 000 AI and robotics researchers, signed nearly two years ago. The letter warned of the
dangers of artificial intelligence in weapons, which could be used in assassinations (暗杀),
overturning nations, and selectively killing a particular ethnic group.
Many nations are already familiar with drone (无人机) warfare, in which
human-piloted drones are used instead of putting soldiers on site. Lower costs, as well as
the fact that they don’t risk the lives of military personnel, have contributed to their
rising popularity. Future capabilities for unmanned aerial vehicles could include
autonomous takeoffs and landings, while underwater drones could eventually “swim” in
the seas.
AI weapons would take things a step further, removing human involvement entirely,
and potentially improving efficiency. But they could also open a whole new box of worms,
according to the letter, “lowering the level for going to battle” and creating a global
arms race in which horrible technology can be mass-produced and misused. “Artificial
intelligence technology has reached a point where the use of such systems is-practically,
if not legally-achievable within years, and the risks are high. It will only be a matter of
time until they appear on the black market and in the hands of terrorists, dictators or
warlords (军阀). ”
28.Why did Elon Musk sign the open letter
A.To urge UN to ban all the new technology.
B.To protect humans from the potential dangers of AI.
C.To cut down the cost of automated weapons.
D.To ask people to keep curious facing technology.
29.Which of the following is NOT the effect of AI use in weapons
A.Overthrowing a nation. B.Selectively killing an ethnic group.
C.Improving efficiency. D.Risking the lives of military personnel.
30.The underlined sentence “they could also open a whole new box of worms” implies
that the use of AI in arms would __.
4
A.give rise to a lot of threats to the world
B.lower the level of global arms race
C.cut down the mass production of arms
D.decrease the deals on the black market
31.What is the writer’s attitude towards the use of Al in weapons
A.Indifferent. B.Supportive. C.Concerned. D.Regretful.

Most 15-year-olds are worrying about their math homework and trying to fit in with
other kids their age. But Henry Patterson is busy running a successful online business
instead.
Patterson, a teenager from Bedfordshire, a county in the East of England, started a
business called Not Before Tea when he was just nine. He began by selling sweets, but
soon turned to household products like wash bags and soft toys. The items he sells came
from the characters of a book he wrote called The Adventures of Sherb and Pip.
Patterson’s early school years were difficult, as he didn’t do as his peers did. He saw
the world differently and was rarely invited to parties or play dates. He also spoke with
difficulty, which made him feel even more lonely.
But these things didn’t hold him back. To cheer himself up, Patterson gradually
buried himself in designing different animals and writing interesting stories about them.
His characters started to become popular. He tried very hard to express himself and talk
to bigger audiences. His business has earned him 65,000 pounds (566,221 yuan) and he
has spoken at the National Retail Business Awards for Teenagers.
Besides this, he does his best to keep his schoolwork as a priority (优先项). He takes
his homework with him to events and does it on the train or after a presentation. Two
years ago, he wrote a book called Young and Mighty. It describes his search for success
and happiness. “The real point of the book is to help people my age think about how to
make their way in the world,” he wrote.
