Chien-Shiung Wu was a Chinese-American nuclear physicist who has been recognized as “the First Lady of Physics” and “Queen of Nuclear Research” . Her research contributions include work on the Manhattan Project and the Wu experiment.
Born in a small town near Shanghai, China, on May 31, 1912, Chien-Shiung Wu was the only daughter of three children. Education was important to the Wu family, which influenced young Wu the most. Her mother, a teacher, and her father, an engineer, encouraged her to pursue science and mathematics from an early age. She began her study in one of the first schools founded by her father, and then went to Suzhou School. Later she attended Shanghai Gong Xue public school for one year. In 1930, Wu entered Nanjing University, where she first pursued mathematics but quickly switched her major to physics, inspired by a famous female scientist, Marie Curie. She graduated with top honors at the head of her class with a B. S. degree in 1934.
After graduation, she went to the University of California. There she met Professor Ernest Lawrence, a later Nobel Prize winner. Wu's graduate work focused on a highly desirable topic of that age: uranium fission(铀裂变)products. After completing her Ph. D. in 1940, Wu accepted an offer from Princeton University as the first female teacher. In 1944, she joined the Manhattan Project at Columbia University.
After leaving the Manhattan Project in 1945, Wu spent the rest of her career in the Department of Physics at Columbia. She is best known for conducting the Wu experiment, the discovery of which resulted in her colleagues Tsung-Dao Lee and Chen-Ning Yang winning the 1957 Nobel Prize in Physics, while Wu was not included. Wu was aware of the injustice and at an MIT conference in October of 1964, she stated“I wonder whether the physics symbols have any preference for either male or female treatment. ”
Wu retired from Columbia in 1981 and devoted her time to educational programs until she died in 1997.

Imagine you're a farmer in India with a crop of potatoes to sell. Typically, you go to a marketplace called a mandi and get the best price you can from a local middleman, who will then sell them to another middleman.
Sanjay Agarwalla learned about Indian farmers'lack of access to buyers even when he was a student decades ago. After talking the problem over with his son Aditya, then a computer science major at Princeton University, the two decided to form an online marketplace they called the Kisan Network in late 2015.
“Anything that deals with agriculture in India is pretty large. So, if it's a problem, the problem can affect millions of people, and the impact of the solution could be enormous, ” Sanjay says. After all, some 70 percent of rural households in the country depend on agriculture as a main source of income.
Kisan Network's app lets farmers advertise their produce and see potential buyers beyond the local mandi. Once the deal is completed online, Kisan runs the produce from the farmer direct to the buyer, each side staying put.

Kisan's fee ranges from 5 to 15 percent of the sale, and farmers get to keep more than they would under the traditional system, where middleman after middleman raises the price of the produce before it reaches a final buyer. “Even with low-profit crops like potatoes, we have been able to offer 10 percent more than physical market rates. That's what our entire goal is, ” says Aditya. “As for higher-profit crops, the improvement goes up. ”
Building products for this new set of technology consumers brings its own challenges. “All of our engineers are from urban backgrounds, ”says Aditya Agarwalla. “It's not like you're building something you would use on your own. ”To be effective, Kisan's platform must work with inexpensive smartphones on slower networks and be able to support regional languages.
Today, farmers feel it's better selling to someone who is at their doors. They do not have to typically travel miles to a mandi, staying overnight without a place to sleep.

The most effective communication occurs when the importance of body language in teaching is acknowledged. When these nonverbal signals are working together with our words, it creates communication synergy.
It has been suggested that two-thirds of our communication is nonverbal. Positive body language in a classroom setting has the ability to motivate, inspire and engage. It can not only give you the confidence you need to teach but can also inform your students that you actually know what you're talking about. It can even make your students feel safe and confident enough to participate in the lessons more frequently.
Most leadership positions encourage body language that shows power and confidence. Signals include standing tall, gesturing only from the waist up, head straight and forward, and talking while pointing to others, which are obvious ways to exercise control. But when teaching, the nonverbal signals need to show a different type of leader. These signals convey warmth and understanding, reminding your students that you are approachable and there to help them grow. For example, fix your eyes on one student for about 15-30 seconds before changing to another student, which is one of the best ways to keep students' focus. Nod your head. Give a thumbs up - maybe two! Show them they are on the right path and they will be more confident in continuing down it.
The importance of body language can never be ignored. It's desirable that you should advocate using body language in teaching and pay attention to the use rule and using skills. My name is Kirsty and I have been studying here for 2 years. Today I’m going to show you around the University of Chester’s Parkgate Road Campus, where you’ll find many of the university’s central facilities. In the west, you will find our Information Point filled with staff here to offer you help and guidance whenever you need it. Next, we will head over to the library. Seaborne library is the university’s main library and it is in the heart of the Parkgate Road Campus. As well as a variety of books, journals and online resources, the library offers a 24-hour computer lab. The library is also staffed with librarians that are on hand to help with whatever you need. There is also a cafe downstairs, perfect for study break. Opposite the library, we have study areas available for both staff and students. To ensure a place, you just book online, no need to come personally. Now we have come to Chester Students Union. It is in the south of our campus. It regularly organizes colorful activities for students. Next month, there will be a music festival organized by Students Union, featuring four music related activities – classical music concerts, lectures on the history of music, a singing competition for teachers and instrumental performances by students.
