Last Sunday, when I went out with Melanie, we saw two ladies with their pets in a coffee shop by chance. Then we were talking our respective pets at the moment. That was the first time that I was really thinking about effect of pets in human life.
I used to have a female pet named Sasa at home. When I first met her at my aunt's home, she was so lovely and cute. She was with her mother within her first month with my little cousins then she went to my home. She was with my parent passing five months and brought a lot of happiness to my home. Unfortunately, she was lost a couple of months ago. I always pray she can find a new family and live with them well.
I used to envy the other children who had a pet especially when I felt lonely. I thought pets are good, affectionate, loyal and obedient companions to their master. I used to dream of having the dog in 101 Dalmatians who could play with me, do things for me, help me get rid of my loneliness and kill the time. Actually, Sasa was really a dog like the one in that film. She was the source of fun and happiness at my home. She always entertains and amuses me except that she's ill.
I consider pets are really good to families that have children. Pets can be guardians and doorkeepers, but what's more important is that keeping pets does good to children's growth. Keeping pets helps children to nurture a tender loving heart and learn to care for others. It helps children to develop their senses of responsibility and teaches children to appreciate life. Children get invaluable training in learning to treat people the same way when they treat their pets kindly and patiently. They can also learn the behaviors necessary for becoming responsible parents and citizens from keeping pets. Those are social skills that are estates for life.
Anyway, although pets cause problems of hygiene(卫生), pets are always the best friends to humans, especially for children.
51. The writer began considering the effects of pets when ________.
A. she first met Sasa at her aunt's home
B. the pet dog Sasa was lost
C. she heard others' talk last Sunday
D. she played with Sasa
52. When the author first met her, Sasa was ________.
A. five months old
B. more than one month old
C. less than one month old
D. a couple of months old
53. 101 Dalmatians may be the name of ________.
A. some famous dogs
B. a famous film
C. some places where pets are kept
D. some robots
54. The author seems to think pets ________.
A. are useless to the family
B. are always dangerous to children
C. are especially good to children's development
D. are more troublesome than kind
B
Su Hua is studying at Cambridge, UK. She has bought a bicycle and is worried about security (安全). Her friend, Kate, found this article and sent it to her.
Introduction
A lot of crime is against bicycles. About 150,000 bicycles are stolen every year and most are never found. You can prevent this happening by following a few careful steps.
Basic Security
Do not leave your bicycle in out-of-the-way places. Always lock your bicycle when you leave. Secure it to lampposts or trees. Take off smaller parts and take them with you, for example lights and saddles ?车座?.
Locks
Get a good lock. There are many different types in the shops. Buy one that has been tested against attack. Ask for a recommendation from a bike shop.
Marking
Security marking your bike can act as a deterrent to a thief. It can also help the police find your bicycle. It should be clearly written and include your postcode and your house or flat number. This will provide a simple way to identify your bicycle.
Registration
There are a number of companies who will security mark your bicycle for you. They will then put your registration number and personal details on their computer database. Then if your bicycle is found it will be easy to contact you.
Finally
Keep a record of the bicycle yourself: its make, model and registration number. You can even take a photograph of it. This will prove the bicycle belongs to you.

C
The first thing to remember about homework is that it needs to be done as soon as you get home from school. Since many parents do not give evening doses to help you sleep at night, the homework MUST be done first. If you have after-school activities, the homework should be done as soon as you get home. It is fine to allow for a snack break and also to allow for stretching breaks. Every kid of you really needs these little breaks.
Also, you should remember that it is your responsibility to do your homework. Next time you tend to depend on Mom and Dad for a roadmap, please try to struggle with it first, because it is good for you.
When you have questions, especially something about a science or a math problem, don't always turn to your teacher! It is a good idea to struggle with them first and try to work them out. Sometimes, if this doesn't work, look at the materials in the back of the book. They may guide you to pages and understanding everything completely.
At last, while doing homework, don't be looking away but continue working. Setting time limits often helps with this. Different ages decide different fair amounts of time. 10~15 minutes is good for a child that's age 6~8. A time of 20~30 minutes is about right for a child aged 9~12. Kids can achieve 30~45 minutes' intervals of study at age 13~15. This, of course, depends on your abilities to concentrate and stay on task.
59. The passage mainly tells children ________.
A. to do their homework quickly and properly
B. to limit their time of doing homework
C. not to turn to teachers when doing homework
D. not to look away while doing homework
60. If you are a girl aged 14, the proper length of the homework time should be ________.
A. 14 minutes B. 25 minutes
C. 35 minutes D. 50 minutes
61. The author seems to think ________.
A. children should finish their homework at school
B. parents had better help children with their homework
C. doing homework all alone is more important
D. homework in science needs more time
D
The Grand Canyon is running out of empty places. About five million people will visit the Grand Canyon this year. Most of them will have to see it from parking lots on the South Rim.
There will be many people in a few small places. There will also be many cars. There will be more than six thousand cars a day in the parking lots. That is three times more cars than the parking space. The people who run the Grand Canyon National Park are trying to do something about the overcrowding. They have put a limit on boats at the bottom of the canyon. They have put a limit on how low airplanes can fly. Now they don't want cars any more.
The manager of the park says that people will like the park without cars. They will not have to listen to the noise from buses, motorcycles and helicopters. There are many things to do in the Grand Canyon National Park. People do not need cars for all of them. They can raft down the Colorado River. They can hike on the trails.
The millions of visitors to the South Rim hurt the park. Their showers and toilets take water from the springs and streams around the canyon. Animals and plants need that water. There are other dangers to the Grand Canyon. Smog (烟雾) makes it hard to see the views. A dam cools and cleans the water. This hurts the plants and animals nearby.
The way people visit the National Parks is changing. People may have to make reservations (预定) to get into the Grand Canyon. They may have to pay 20 to get in.
62. Many visitors see the Grand Canyon from parking lots because ________.
A. they can take a close look at it there
B. they would like to look at it there
C. the Grand Canyon is too crowded
D. the Grand Canyon is very dangerous
63. It seems that the parking lots of the Grand Canyon can only hold about ________.
A. 1,500 cars B. 2,000 cars C. 6,000 cars D. 9,000 cars
64. Which of the following doesn't destroy the environment of the park?
A. Having a bath around the canyon.
B. Riding motorcycles to the national park.
C. A dam built across the Grand Canyon.
D. Rafting down the Colorado.
65. From this passage, we can infer the Grand Canyon is _____________
A. a place of interest B. a newspaper C. a magazine D. a travel agency
第四部分:写作(共三节,满分50分)
第一节 阅读表达(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,并依照题目要求用英语回答问题。
Tokyo is one of those places that you may love and hate at the same time. In Tokyo there are always too many people in the places where they want to be. Of course there are too many cars. Japanese drive as fast as they can, but in Tokyo they often spend a long time in traffic jams. Tokyo is not different from London, Paris and New York in that. It is different when one wants to walk.
At certain times of the day there are a lot of people on foot in London’s Oxford Street. But the street near the Ginza in Tokyo always has a lot of people on foot, and sometimes it is really difficult to walk. People are very polite; there are just too many of them.
The worst time to be in the street is at 11:30 at night. That is when the nightclubs are closing and everybody wants to go home. There are 35,000 nightclubs in Tokyo, and you do not often see one that is empty.
During the day, most people travel to and from work by train. Tokyo people buy six million train tickets every day. At most stations, trains arrive every two or three minutes, but at certain hours there do not seem to be enough trains. Although they are usually crowded, Japanese trains are very good. They always leave and arrive on time. On a London train, you would see everyone reading newspapers. On Tokyo trains, everybody in a seat seems to be asleep, whether the journey is long or short.
In Tokyo, I stood outside the station for five minutes. Three fire engines raced past on the way to one of the many fires that Tokyo has every day. Tokyo has so many surprises, but none of them can really surprise me now.
