I was backpacking in Panama over Christmas in 2018, and planned to climb Volcán Barú. It is one of the only places on earth from where you can see the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans at the same time.
I set off before sunrise. It was a bit cold, so I had pulled on leggings under my trousers. I've always felt safe travelling as a solo (单独) woman. I love the freedom. When I got to the base at 7 am, the ranger (护林员) was unwilling to let me go alone, but relented (缓和) because an American couple were behind me.
The first part of the climb was beautiful. I walked for an hour and had reached a fair height. The views were impressive, so I stopped to take a photograph. Suddenly I heard violent barking behind me.
I turned and saw two dogs running aggressively towards me. I could see their teeth looked sharp, and they looked angry. There was nowhere for me to run. I tried to keep calm, but my heart was racing. They stopped a dozen feet from where I stood and kept barking. I knew they could move fast, so I didn't want to try to outrun them.
I kept walking, saying, "Good dog, calm down, " as evenly as possible. But I was terrified. Then one dashed up and sunk his teeth into my leg below the knee. I was shocked. He held on for a few seconds. The pain took my breath away as I felt his fangs (犬牙) in my flesh. I considered bending down to get a rock to fight him off, but was nervous in case he went for my neck or the other one launched at me.
I tried to keep walking, and he finally let go. Then he was behind me, growling (嗥叫). I kept going, my body shaking, until after about 15 minutes I was out of their sight.
When I thought it was safe, I stopped.
A pickup truck appeared, driven by the ranger.
2.阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Joe and I had been looking forward to our retirement. However, when he suffered a heart attack last spring, he was forced to leave his job as a truck driver earlier than we had planned. As the medical bills increased, we realized I would have to continue working full-time while Joe stayed home and took over the housework.
This new arrangement was a disaster. One night, when I dragged myself to bed, I was horrified to discover Joe had turned our white sheets blue. He told me he had found out how to save on water, soap and electricity. He patted his blue trousers and announced proudly washing everything together was the secret.
When I awoke to the deafening rain the next morning, all I wanted was a hot home-cooked meal. However, what greeted me at the table was a microwave package. I knew my husband had his faults, but I thought he at least knew how to cook! I knew if I didn't leave the house soon I would lose my temper with him. As the heavy rain thundered down outside, Joe offered to drive me to work. I ignored him as I struggled into my jacket and seized my bag with my teaching plans inside.
He insisted that he would take me and reached for his boots. I looked at the piles of newspapers and the dirty dishes still on the table. "Don't you have enough to do I can take care of myself." I stormed out, not even kissing him goodbye. Joe shouted after me not to take the shortcut (捷径).
Ten minutes later, I ignored Joe's warning and turned off the main route to take the shortcut. I thought it hadn't rained enough to flood the road, but as I rounded the corner, water rushed across my path. After a few feet, the car got stuck. I opened the door and water poured in. I hurriedly closed the door. I couldn't risk walking in this. Almost 20 minutes passed. The car began to shake. I got the fright of my life when I heard three long honks (喇叭声).

When Thanksgiving Day was approaching, my primary school decided to celebrate it by presenting shows like dancing and singing that all students could join in. Parents would also be invited to watch.
One afternoon, the schoolmaster called me into his office. He said with a smile," Nancie, could you write a poem for the festival and read it during the coming event " "Sure!" Excitedly. I had loved poetry since my fifth grade. I was fascinated by poems, or it is an amazing thing to convey feelings through them. When my first poem was published, I was known to my friends and teachers as the class poet.
I left the schoolmaster's office that afternoon, feeling quite happy. Then for weeks, I worked on my poem, carefully designing the content, structure and sound. I practiced reciting it aloud every day.
When the evening for the event finally came, I was ready. Well, I was ready until I looked around and realized how many people there were in the school hall. How could I present my poem in front of more than 400 people I was just a seventh-grader! No one would take my work seriously! What was worse, I had never spoken in front of a huge crowd before. I sat in my chair, hoping I could disappear. Maybe they would forget I was supposed to read.
"Hey, Nancie, I saw your name in the program. Good luck," my little brother's voice rose as he took his seat a few rows down with his class. I nodded, struggling to keep calm. I knew my parents were somewhere in the hall. Before long, the lights faded, the crowd quieted, and the schoolmaster took the stage to introduce the list of the shows. Mine was at the end of the list. So I had to sit through an hour of absolute anxiety.
It wasn't until the students from the fourth grade were singing that my teacher brought me downstairs next to the stage. My mind was blank. Then suddenly, I was on stage with the bright white lights blinding my view of the audience. When I walked to the microphone in the center of the stage, I somehow tripped over something. And I stupidly fell down. All of the kids burst into laughter.

One day a man named Steve Gowan was fishing in the Thames Estuary in Britain. By the end of the day, besides fishes and sea weeds, he fished a messenger bottle. He opened it carefully and inside the bottle was a brief loving letter from a British soldier named Hughes to his wife:
Dear Wife, I am writing this note on this boat and dropping it into the sea just to see if it will reach you. If it does, sign this envelope on the bottom right-hand corner where it says receipt. Put the date and the hour of receipt and your name where it says signature and look after it well.
Ta-ta sweet, for the present. Your Hubby.
Also attached was a note intended for the finder of the bottle:
Sir or madam, would you kindly forward the enclosed letter and earn the blessing of a poor British soldier on his way to the front this ninth day of September, 1914. Signed Private T. Hughes.
Actually, as Hughes crossed the English Channel on 9 September, 1914, at 7:52 p.m. he dropped a message in a green beer bottle over the side of the ship and he died two days later in the war.
85 years later, the bottle was finally caught by Steve Gowan, a fisherman. Steve Gowan examined the letter carefully. It had the soldier's name and army number, so he supposed that the message should be real. But how could he deliver it to the intended recipient In 1999, the Internet was still in its early years. No way would he be able to find Hughes's possible surviving family that way! So, what to do
Well, he put an advertisement in a local paper! The story captured so many hearts and minds that it gained national coverage. Somewhere along the way, through magic and luck, he learned that Hughes's daughter, Emily, was still alive in New Zealand!

I grew up in a poor family with six brothers, three sisters, my father and mother. We had little money and few goods, but plenty of love and attention. I was happy and energetic. I understood that no matter how poor a person was, he could still afford a dream.
My dream was athletics. By the time I was sixteen, I could throw a ninety-mile-per-hour fastball and hit anything moving on the football field. And I was so lucky that my high-school coach was Ollie Jarvis, who not only believed in me, but often told me "Dream is priceless". However, when I was about to get off the ground, one particular incident happened, which almost ruined my long-held ream.
It was the summer holiday in senior two and a friend recommended me for a summer job. I was offered $ 12. 25 per pared with the average $3.5, that was a big sum. I was so excited, because this meant a chance for money in my pocket, certainly money for a new bike and new clothes, and the start of savings for a house for my mother. The prospect(前景)of the job was inviting, and I wanted to jump at the opportunity.
Then I realized I would have to give up summer baseball training to handle the work schedule. I didn't dare to tell my coach, I thought of the advice my mother often gave me when I lacked courage, "If you make your bed, you have to lie in it. "I decided to talk to my coach in person. We're driving along a road and saw a piece of card saying: Bungee Jumping, 5km" and an arrow pointing to the left. I couldn't even see a road going left and there was no sign of any bungee jumping, but you insisted.
"We don't have to do the bungee jumping, we can just go there and see what's happening. I'll be interesting!" As usual, you got your way. I gave in and off we went along this dirt road. After driving for a long time, suddenly some trees appeared like a small wood. "This must be the place," you said. We pulled over. As soon as we're out of car, we heard voices of people shouting and laughing. It sounded like they're having a good time. In the middle of the wood there were some people. They're polite and friendly, but I felt like we're interrupting.
Once there had been a river, but now there was just a dry ditch(沟). A metal bridge crossed the ditch. The bridge didn't look too stable. I thought the kids had built it. The kids were in the middle of the bridge. They're all leaning over and looking down into the ditch. They're shouting and laughing. Another person was hanging from a long piece of elastic rope in the middle of the ditch. He was laughing madly. The other people slowly pulled him up to the bridge. As the guy came to the top he looked shocked but also very happy.
"I want to do that!" you said. And you knew what I wanted to say: What will happen if the rope breaks I didn't say it, but I was thinking it. I didn't say anything, because I knew that you wouldn't have answers for any of my questions. You've always been a lot more adventurous than me.

Fifteen Dollars From a Strange Woman
"Wake up, Mama!" I felt a little hand on my face and opened my eyes. There was my son, ready to start the day. I also heard my baby and toddler(学步的儿童) awake in the next room. Ready or not, the day had begun!
I loved being at home with my little ones, but I felt the weight of the world on my shoulders. My husband and I had just bought a house, and some unexpected expenses made our budget(预算) tighter than it had ever been.
I got out of bed and pulled on my faded jeans and sneakers that had seen better days. I only had one task on the to-do list for the day. I was going to pick up my kids' photos from the studio at the local mall. Despite our small budget, it was important for me to have pictures of my children as they were growing up. Since we were going to the mall, I decided to make it an outing and packed some sandwiches for us to eat at the food court.
After breakfast, I put everyone into the car, and off we went. After we parked, I unfolded the double stroller(婴儿车), put in the youngest two kids and asked the oldest to hold onto the stroller.
We wheeled into the studio at the mall, and I approached the counter. The young woman smiled." May I help you "
"Yes, I'm here to pick up our photos," I answered.
The woman asked my name and opened her large drawer. "Schmoyer... Schmoyer... Ah, yes, here they are. Aren't they just so adorable " She fanned out the photos and the smiling faces of my kids warmed my heart.
"Yes, they are great. Thank you," I said.
She put the photos into an envelope for me. Then she spread out additional photos of my kids that I hadn't ordered. I knew what that meant.
"Would you like to purchase these extra photos They are only fifteen dollars a piece!" she smiled sweetly.

On Saturday, we gathered at the hall to witness the award ceremony for the senior scouts(童子军). Receiving an award on such a day was a great honor for any scout, and all desired to be the scout selected to give the summary of the year's activities for the association.
I was not the one selected to give the summary and for that, I was grateful. I could hardly stand in front of a large crowd to make a speech, but Sean could. He was selected to do the honor because he was the President of the Boy Scouts for schools. My job was much simpler. Being the Vice President, I was very much behind the scenes, content to ensure that everything was in smooth running order.
It was an hour to go before the ceremony began, and I had put the finishing touches to the stage. Walking down the stage, I saw my teammates in a state of panic. When they saw me, they ran to me to tell me that Sean met with a traffic accident and would not make it to the award ceremony. Someone else had to give the summary. All of them looked hopefully at me, and I could feel my knees beginning to collapse.
All their arguments against my unwillingness were valid. I had a copy of the speech as well as the benefit of having seen Sean rehearse(排练) it. I was the Vice President and therefore should take his place. Finally, I was firmly told not to decline any longer and they said that they were convinced that I would do the right thing. I sank down onto the floor, totally shocked by the situation.
I knew I was not a confident speaker, and the thought of presenting a summary in front of so many distinguished guests horrified me. To think that the fame of the scouts would take a beating because of me! The burden of responsibility troubled me greatly.

Aminah was sad every day. Her mother had run off with a man she met at her workplace last year. Her father was depressed (沮丧的). He nearly broke down. Many a night he would come back crying out, "Why, why did she leave me " So depressed was he that he lost himself in wine and Aminah often became the unfortunate victim (受害者) of his anger and depression. While at school, her classmates often made fun of her failing grades.
One day, her patience ran out, and she decided to leave home. "Where " she wondered. She did not know. All she knew was that she had to get away from it all: a horrible father and school. Packing some necessary items and a few precious personal belongings, she ran away. She would leave her future to the gods.
There was confusion (困惑), uncertainty, and suffering. In her heart, she knew that running away would not solve her problems, but she had to do something. That night she walked aimlessly alone down a street away from her home, feeling a little comfort from the freedom she finally gained and being away from those mean eyes around her.
The night seemed to pass very slowly. Feeling tired and hungry, Aminah laid herself down on a chair at a bus stop beside the street. Curiously enough, staring at the stars twinkling in the sky, Aminah couldn't help thinking of her father - the heartbroken man and the only breadwinner of the family. "What is the poor man doing now Does my running away secretly result in his deeper sorrow or worry " she wondered. She was at a loss what to do when a policeman spotted her and asked about her condition.

When the night fell, James, a middle school student in London, dragged his tired body home. In order to save money to buy himself a new bike, he had been working at a restaurant for over a month during the summer vacation. He had already earned some money. With one more week, he would have his dream bike.
Entering the room, James found his younger brother Adam sitting on the edge of his bed with an uneasy expression on his face. James stared at Adam confusedly.
"Sorry. I did something wrong, " Adam said, on the verge of tears.
"What's the matter with you " James asked.
"This afternoon I went to play football on the road outside the house and accidentally hit our neighbor Mr. Black's car. I was so scared and I hurried home in panic withouttelling him, " Adam said, full of guilt.
"Is the car seriously damaged " James couldn't wait to continue asking.
"The ball hit the car back and the tail light got broken" Adam said in a low voice.
"It's truly your fault. It's really dangerous to play football on the road. What's worse you shouldn't have come back without telling Mr. Black about it. You are such a naughty boy," James raised his voice. Hearing this, Adam lowered his head and bit his lips hard. James added, "Anyway, it's never too late to mend. I'11 take you to his house tomorrow to apologize. Now it's time to sleep. "
When Adam went bed, James couldn't go to sleep himself. Father always told him to be honest, to be a boy admired by the people and to be an example of his brother. He was sorry for his brother's behavior. He shouldn't have blamed his brother after he did something wrong. But he could understand him. Anyway, Adam was only a boy of seven and what had happened really scared him. But as his elder brother, he should pay for it though this might delay his plan of having the bike. "Nothing serious. At worst, I can take more summer jobs, " he said to himself.

From the time I was old enough to help on our Indiana farm, I knew what my father expected of me. Three generations of men in my family were doctors. I heard stories of the lives my grandfather had saved and I heard similar tales about my father. As Dad grew ever more godlike my mind, so did the force of the expectation that I would follow in the family tradition.
But as college neared, I began to feel that becoming a doctor was not what I really wanted to do. I didn't dare tell him about my uncertainty. With the weight heavy on my mind the summer before college, I was given a challenge that I hoped would be a distraction.
Dad kept several bird dogs which I trained on our farm. As usual, Dad turned Jerry over to me. "See what you can do with him," he said.
I didn't anticipate problems. Jerry was a willing dog of about ten months. The first part of his training was easy. He mastered the basics: sit, stay, down, walk. His only problem was "come". I'd call" Jerry! Here!". He would turn and look at me, then go on about his business. In the following days, I noticed he would just take off through the grass, fast as a wild thing. Despite my intense desire to train him well, I began to feel a strange sense of joy when he ran.
"Why won't he do what I want him to " I asked myself. I had never failed with a dog before, but I was surely failing now. When September came, I finally had to tell Dad that this bird dog wouldn't hunt. The thought that I had failed us both made me guilty.
"Son, I know this dog doesn't do what he should," he said, "but what he does do is something he likes." He continued to look at me firmly. For a moment I felt he could see into my very heart.

I love to play the piano and I greatly enjoy performing my songs, so when the annual winter recital(独奏会)was canceled, I was disappointed. I had looked forward to it for a longtime and had already prepared two of my best songs.
My mom had a wonderful idea, however, to turn this disappointing letdown into something worthwhile. "You can perform your songs at Carriage House Senior Living," my mom suggested brightly. "I'm sure the seniors there who do not have families visit them that often, would really appreciate the music and you could play more than just two songs."
I immediately thought this was a great idea. One of the things I did not like about the recitals was that I was limited to playing just a couple of songs. Playing the piano at Carriage House Senior Living seemed like a win-win situation because not only would I get to play more songs, but I would also have the chance to cheer up the residents there with some lively tunes. My mom called Carriage House Senior Living and made arrangements for me to perform. In the coming days, I worked especially hard to polish up fifteen pieces that I thought the crowd would enjoy, including many old classics.
When the much-anticipated day finally arrived, my family and I drove to Carriage House Senior Living. Walking through the enormous double doors, we stepped into an entryway that overlooked the spacious grand dining room. Right at the entrance to the dining room stood the piano as if it were just waiting to make some music to liven the place up a bit. At nearly every table several gray-haired women or men were seated enjoying their dinner and the company that the crowded room provided. Despite the conversations going on at various tables though, isolation hung like a dark cloud in the room.
Almost immediately, we were greeted by an old woman with a walker who introduced herself as Phyllis in charge of Carriage House Senior Living. She welcomed me and led me to the stage.

"Time to get up. It's your birthday." Alex opened his eyes and looked up. His parents were standing next to his bed holding breakfast . "We can do anything you want today," said his mom.
He jumped up to get dressed as quickly as he could, already imagining what kind of day he would have at the beach. He had always dreamed about playing in the sand and jumping in the waves. He nearly tripped (绊倒) as he ran down the stairs on his way to the kitchen.
Alex's dad asked him what he wanted to do today. "The beach," he shouted with joy.
The expression on his mom's face changed from joy to sadness. She knew the one place that he would not go was the beach. When her husband had been a young boy of Alex's age, he had a terrifying experience at the beach. Alex's dad shook off his initial (最初的) shock of hearing his son's plan.
"How about we go to the zoo instead " he suggested. "The beach is over two hours away."
"But dad, I've wanted to go to the beach my WHOLE life," Alex pleaded(恳求).
"Son, I'm sorry, but we are not going to the beach and that's final."
They ended up driving to the zoo. It was an exciting day, but Alex could not get the beach out of his mind. He yearned to build a sandcastle, swim in the ocean and chase the incoming and outgoing waves. The beach seemed like the best place on earth.
Over the next few weeks, he dreamed about it almost every night. Any free moment he had was spent filling his room with pictures and drawings of beaches. He repeatedly pleaded with his mom to help him convince his dad to take them to the beach. Each time she explained that they could do other things as a family, just not the beach.
One night, Alex received what he thought was good news. His dad was going on a three-day business trip the next day. "This is an opportunity," he thought to himself.

One Christmas Eve, my seventeen-year-old son called me from the bakery where he worked part-time. He was on the evening shift with a couple of co-workers, and the store was about to dose. The person from a local charity who was scheduled to pick up the leftover bread and cakes hadn't shown up. He was worried about what to do with the food, so I suggested he call the manager to ask for advice. The manager told him to throw the leftovers into the garbage—approximately $1,500 worth of fresh baked goods.
It seemed completely wrong for all this good food to go to waste, so we talked about where we could take it. A new homeless shelter had just opened in our area, so I called and asked if they could use a delivery of free baked goods.
An excited staff member said, "Yes, please!" I drove to the bakery and, together with my son and his co-workers, we loaded up the truck and made our way to the homeless shelter. As we walked toward the entrance, a woman stopped and held open the door for us. Thinking we were staff, she thanked us for what we were doing and said she was really grateful for her new temporary home. She introduced herself and told us her street friends call her "Star". We chatted for a while on the sidewalk with light snow falling around us. She said that moving off the streets into the shelter had saved her life.
Star told us she spent her days looking out for those who needed help and trying to do kind things for others whenever she could. Then she asked for a favor. She showed us a phone number. She'd wanted to tell her friend she was okay so he wouldn't worry, but she couldn't afford the long-distance call. I said I would be happy to pass on her message. She wrote his name on a card. Then she hugged us both, and we wished each other a merry Christmas.

【答案】When I thought it was safe, I stopped. I rolled up my trousers and saw blood. The leggings had acted as a bit of a barrier but there were fang marks on the left side of my knee, seeping blood. I managed to stop the bleeding and cleaned up as best as I could with tissues from my bag. I couldn't walk up the volcano, but I couldn't go back down either because I'd have to pass them again. I imagined being stuck by myself all night. I was really scared. Suddenly I heard rustling and froze.
A pickup truck appeared, driven by the ranger. I must have been as white as a sheet. He told me to get in. The relief was unbelievable. A few minutes later, we saw the dogs in the road where I'd left them. As we drove past, they jumped up at the truck, growling. When we finally reached the gate, I saw the American couple. I learned it was they who told the ranger what had happened. I could never thank them enough for what they did for me. They saved my life!

【答案】 Looking over my shoulder, I stared into the flashing lights of a familiar truck. I realized that Joe had come to rescue me. My heart danced with joy when I heard Joe's voice. Following his instructions, I climbed out of the sunroof. When I got out, I found that Joe had turned the truck round for me to get on. Joe drove to higher ground. He rapidly got out of the vehicle and helped me into the passenger's seat. When I thought about how I had treated him earlier, my eyes watered.
After getting back to our warm home, Joe held my hand tight. He was wet all over, but wrapped a blanket around me first. In a whispering voice, he admitted it was his fault for not doing the housework properly. It didn't make me angry anymore when I thought of Joe's heroic rescue. I also realized that our current life was new to both of us. We had to allow each other the time to get used to it. With this thought, I opened my arms to Joe and said, "Darling, I forgive you."

【答案】 I was about to run away when my teacher came up to me. He joked I fell due to my eagerness to bow to the audience. His humor helped remove the embarrassment. Then he motivated the audience to give me encouragement. Feeling less nervous, I took the microphone and cleared my voice before reading the title. Surprisingly, my voice sounded clear and loud. The hall silenced. I continued reading, with words coming out in the right order and lines flowing together appropriately.
When I finished my reading, the hall was silent at first. I swallowed hard. Maybe no one loved my poem. Then out of the silence there was clapping and cheering. I dared to look for my parents in the sea of faces, and found my mother wiping away tears and my father smiling. With a light-headed feeling and a happy smile, I bowed slightly and walked off the stage. I greeted each person I met when going back to my seat, with relief and gratefulness spreading warmly through my body.

Right away, Gowan and journalists managed to get in touch with Emily. It felt like a miracle to this senior lady and she couldn't even believe it was true. Emily said in an exciting voice," I only possess a few photos of my father and spent most of my life trying to find more about him. I am so happy to hear this discovery!" The letter meant so much to her and it seemed that it was a gift from her father. What was more surprising was another gift from the local paper.
The local paper decided to offer Mr. Gowan an air ticket to deliver the letter in person. Steve Gowan felt it was like a mission and gladly accepted the gift. Hughes's message to his family was finally delivered 85 years after it was sent. When Emily opened the letter with her trembling hands, Gowan witnessed tears, laughter, sweet memories and gratitude, all the mixed feelings from Emily. He felt he had fished not a letter in a bottle but a huge treasure, a bridge connecting the living with the dead, a message bonding a family.

Right away, Gowan and journalists managed to get in touch with Emily. It took the old lady, who was only two when her father headed off to the battle, really a while to recover from the pleasant surprise. Due to her young age at the time of his death, Emily never knew her father, though she grew up listening to stories about him from her mother and cherishing his award medals. Having only a few photos of her father, Emily spent most of her life trying to find out more about him. She had no idea that a fisherman would give her such a big surprise. Even another amazing thing beyond her expectation was waiting for her too.
The local paper decided to offer Mr. Gowan an air ticket to deliver the letter in person. He jumped at the chance to help Emily connect herself with this lost piece of her past. Emily shed tears of joy when hugging the guest tightly. Holding the amazingly dry and intact note, she offered her heartfelt gratitude, saying the bottle was a great source of warmth and comfort. her eyes glistening with tears, she expressed her sincere appreciation incoherently. Though Gowan joked that he himself a fisherman served as a postman this time, he never expected something clinging to his fishing net would bring so much to a beloved one almost a century later." Thank you, thank you."
5.【答案】I gathered my courage and knocked at his door. As expected, his face turned purple immediately. He glared at me like a bull." You have your whole life to work, "he said," but your playing days are limited. You can't afford to waste them." I stood before him with my head down. " How much will you be paid " He asked. "$12. 25 per hour. "Well," he shrugged." Is $12.25 an hour the price of a dream "
That question reminded me of what my coach used to say. Yes, dream is priceless. It's stupid to earn pocket money at the expense of my dream. I held my head high and said firmly, "Sorry, Mr. Jarvis. I know what to do next." My coach smiled with great satisfaction. That summer I dedicated myself to baseball training. And one year later, I obtained a baseball scholarship to the University. I knew I would soon buy my mum a house. Thankfully, I made a right choice. Without Mr. Jarvis, I would never know I could afford a dream.

【答案】I remembered when I was a kid, my friend had a bicycle with no brakes. We used to take his bike without brakes and went down a big hill on it. I thought about that, that old bike so many years ago, and I remembered how I felt then. I didn't know why people do it. I really didn't know. You insisted that I should have a try.
I breathed in, closed my eyes, didn't think about anything and jumped. I thought I was going forever and wondered when I would stop. But it felt great. I felt scared and thrilled and alive. Then there was a pull and I was going back up again. It was dangerous, but it was thrilling. And the most exciting, thrilling, wonderful thing of all was seeing your face as I came back up to the bridge.

【答案】My face hardened and my heart turned cold." I don't have fifteen dollars." I took the photo envelope and wheeled away, with my cheeks red after my reply. Next, we stopped at the mall's food court, which was mostly empty. There weren't any other kids there, which was good because my kids still didn't know the machines took quarters. They just climbed on them for free fun. After a while, I gathered them to a table and unwrapped our sandwiches that I had brought from home.
Just when we started our lunch, I found the woman we had met at the photo studio standing next to our table. She stretched out her hand and pressed something into mine. She said," Here. Take your family out for ice cream after lunch. "I was surprised. I managed to say" thank you" as she turned and walked away. Then I looked down at what she had given me. The crumpled bills totaled fifteen dollars. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I quietly finished my sandwich.

【答案】But there was really no way out of the situation. In the end, I quickly rehearsed the speech and got ready to go on stage for the presentation. I looked calm and collected but inside, I was a trembling mass of jelly. Although they kept encouraging me, I still felt very worried that my poor performance would cost us the opportunity to win an award. Not long after,I was called to do the presentation. Having butterflies in my stomach, I walked onto the stage.
As I stood on the stage, my heart beat violently. My face turned pale, and my mind went blank. I could not remember what I was supposed to say. I was at a loss what to do when I saw my teammates smiling at me with trustful looks. It was then that I realized that I should try my best for our team. Instantly, I reorganized my thoughts, and proceeded to speak into the microphone. When I was finished, all my teammates stood up and applauded loudly.

"Dad, I don't think I can do medicine," I took a solid breath. Hearing this, he lowered his eyes, obviously disappointed. He appeared so sad that I almost felt close to tears. But to my great relief, his face lit up when he looked at me again. Staring at Jerry beside his feet, he said gently, "Think about Jerry, son. You expected him to be the hunter you trained him to be. But he just isn't. It is a good thing, and now we'll just wait to see how you run."
He gave me a tight hug, said good night and left me. At that moment I understood my father as I never had before, and the love and trust I felt seemed to fill the room. I looked at Jerry, asleep, his legs stretching suddenly as if to be running even in his dreams. To him, running was a great honor and birds no longer mattered to him. To me, being a doctor is not my ideal choice, but new ones await me in the future.

As I sat down on the bench, I pressed a-key on the piano and was surprised to hear no sound. Feeling as if the whole world was watching me, I was struck dead with embarrassment. How could I perform the song without the piano I was on pins and needles when Phyllis slowly made her way to the front of the crowd of dinners and announced in a comforting tone, “This girl has come to sing for us but the piano seems to be a little nervous.” Almost immediately, there was scattered applause and several people stepped forward to help me plugin the piano and set the microphone. With everything ready, I took a deep breath and started my performance.
Nervousness melted away and I started to enjoy the performance with the old. One woman got up and began to animatedly dance about the room. Some of the people swayed in their chairs to the beat of the music while others tapped theirs toes. The performance ended up with a storm of applause from-the crowd. I realized that it was far better than a piano recital because almost everyone seemed to truly appreciate my music and I'm proud that I have the power to spread kindness to them. It ended up being a blessing in disguise that the recital was canceled, leading to me sharing the gift of music with those who needed it most.

The letter meant so much to her and it seemed that it was a gift from her father.

After all, my dream of buying my mom a house and having money in my pocket was worth facing his disappointment to me.

【答案】I gathered my courage and knocked at his door.

【答案】 James got up early the next morning. He told Adam, "We should go to Mr. Black's house as early as possible and explain to him what had happened. " Before they went out, he took out all the money he had earned in the restaurant during the summer holiday. Adam knew that his dear brother wanted to pay for his fault. Tears filled his eyes because he knew very well how much his elder brother wanted to get a new bike and he was working on it.
Mr. Black was a little surprised to see the brothers. "Mr. Black, I'm here to make an apology," said James. Then he told Mr. Black what had happened and drew out the money from his pocket. "This is all the money I have. I wonder if it can pay for your loss, " he said sincerely. "Good boys, I truly appreciate your honesty. Just forget my car. " Mr. Black declined to get the money but accepted the brothers' suggestions of doing some work in his garden. What a good result! Adam regained his honesty and James could still have his dream bike.

"Dad, I don't think I can do medicine," I took a solid breath. He gave me a tight hug, said good night and left me.
【答案】例文:

As I sat down on the bench, I pressed a key on the piano and was surprised to hear no sound.Nervousness melted away and I started to enjoy the performance with the old.
【答案】例文:

【答案】One possible version:
The next morning, seeing his dad get into the taxi, Alex ran to his mother. He looked at his mother eagerly and pleaded: "Mom, I really want to go to the beach. Please, please, please!" After that, he looked at his mother with anxious and expectant eyes. Alex's mother didn't know what to do. She knew that going to the beach was her son's dream, but she didn't want to do it without telling her husband. Alex saw his mother's hesitation and then said:" Mom, Dad is not at home, so he doesn't have to worry about going to the beach with us." With Alex's persuasion, his mother finally agreed to take him to the beach.
Hours later, as Alex looked out of the front window of the car, his eyes widened and his jaw dropped. It was his father who was waiting them at the destination. When the taxi stopped, he quickly got out of the car and rushed to his father, asking anxiously, "Dad, why are you here " His father smiled and said, "Your mother called me and told me the news. I think this is not only a good opportunity for you to go to the beach, but also it's time for me to overcome the fear, so I postponed my trip and came here directly". Hearing this, Alex was obviously relieved and became excited. On that day, Alex did everything he had always wanted to do on the beach and had a very good time. His father also seemed to have overcome the psychological obstacles. After returning home, Alex was tired and fell asleep directly on the bed, but He has a faint smile on his lips.
