Step 1. Lead in
Enjoy a short video and some pictures, then answer questions:
Question 1: Where is the landscape
Suggested answers: In the Li River in Guangxi Gulin.
Question 2: What do you think about this place Use some words to describe it.
Suggested answers: Beautiful, attractive, clear, etc.
Present some pictures about the polluted Li River and answer question.
Question: What do you think might have caused water pollution in the Li River
Suggested answers: An increasing volume of tourists, many tour boats, kitchens on board, the increase of local population,etc.
Step 2. While reading
Activity 1. Skim for text type and main idea
Text type: A report
Main idea: The water pollution and measures taken to deal with it in the Li River.
Activity 2. Scan the text and complete the paragraph summaries.

Activity 3. Draw a mind map to show all the factors that caused the pollution.

Paragraph 1: Introduce the problem and causes
我们都知道空气污染变得越来越严重。
As is known to us all, air pollution is becoming more and more serious.
2.汽车、轮船和飞机等交通工具是造成空气污染的最重要原因之一。
Vehicles such as cars, ships and planes are one of the most important causes of air pollution.

Reducing air pollution
  As is known to us all, air pollution is becoming more and more serious. Vehicles such as cars, ships and planes are one of the most important causes of air pollution.  
To deal with the problem, the government took some effective measures. First and foremost, they carried out strict regulations, making some factories closed down or moved out of the city center. In addition, cars and buses using new clean energy were produced, which reduced the carbon dioxide emission. Most importantly, it is the government’s measures that called on people to be involved in reducing the source of air pollution.
If every citizen makes efforts to protect our environment, the day will come when people will take in clean air.
