You may find that all mountains look blue from a distance (远处)! Why is that
Sunshine is a mix of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Each color has a different wavelength (波长). Blue has one of the shortest wavelengths.
Earth’s atmosphere (大气层) is full of tiny air molecules (分子). When light hits them, it gets scattered (散射) around. Light with shorter wavelength bounces like a ping-pong ball until it reaches our eyes. Blue light, which is about half the wavelength of red light, is scattered almost 10 times as strongly as red light. So blue is the main color of the atmosphere.
More distance from a mountain means more atmosphere. Eventually, the mountain disappears into the sky as we only see blue light. The same thing happens with tall buildings, too.
48.How many colors are mixed in the sunshine
A.5. B.6. C.7. D.8.
49.________ is the main color of the atmosphere.

Every time you eat seafood, you get red spots (红点) on your body. And every spring and fall, your friend gets a runny nose when you play in the garden. What’s going on Well, you and your friend may have allergies (过敏).
An allergy is a reaction from your immune system The immune system keeps you away from diseases by fighting germs (细菌). But when you have allergies, it overreacts (过度反应) and tries to fight against things like grass, pollen (花粉) or some foods. This makes your body feel uncomfortable.
Allergies are common around the world. According to the WHO, about 20 percent of the world’s population suffers from allergies.
Food allergies are one of the most common allergies. Many children can be allergic to food like milk, eggs and peanuts. If you are allergic to certain foods, you may get red spots, an upset stomach or even have difficulty breathing. So far, people haven’t found any good ways to stop food allergies. Just do not eat those foods as much as possible.
Seasonal allergies happen in most parts of the world. When spring comes, pollen is everywhere in the air. And some people begin to sneeze, itch (发痒) or get a runny nose. When it’s pollen season, try to stay indoors. Pollen is usually at its peak (高峰) during mid-morning, early evening and windy days.
Some people are also allergic to pets, certain chemicals (化学物质) and medicine. A small number of people have allergies to rubber (橡胶), red meat or even water!
So how do you know if you are allergic to something Skin tests are the most widely used way. Doctors take a drop of different things that may cause allergies and put it on your skin. Then, they wait to see if your skin around the drop becomes red. Once you know what you are allergic to, the best thing to do is to try and stay away from those things.
52.If you are food allergies, which one may not its symptom (症状)
A.You may get red spots. B.You may get an upset stomach.

①In recent times, the COVID-19 pandemic (新冠肺炎疫情) has destroyed the age-old habit of shaking hands. It is most widely used as a greeting, but when did shaking hands become the standard greeting
②The handshake dates all the way back to the 9th century BC.King Shalmanesar III ruled over Assyria, an empire (帝国) of the ancient Middle East. Archaeologists (考古学家) found a throne base (王座底座) from that time. It shows two people holding hands. In the 5th century BC, in Greece, this was a symbol of peace, showing that neither person carried a weapon. The handshake also makes an appearance in Homer’s ancient poem, the Iliad In it, two characters “shook each other’s hands”.
③However, these handshakes were not used as greetings. The earliest reference to a handshake greeting is in 16th century novels by French writer Francois Rabelais, says Dutch sociologist Herman Roodenburg.
④Even so, the most widely-accepted theory about the handshake’s origin is that it survived through a group called the Quakers, who worked to equality and peace. As the movement spread, so did the handshake, eventually becoming standard among the working class in the mid-1700s.
⑤However, this was not the case everywhere, according to Roodenburg. Some French people described it as a vulgar (平民) English greeting, so many kept “la bise”, the traditional peck (轻吻) on two cheeks, which was widely used until the COVID-19 outbreak. In many countries, people have started touching elbows or ankles (脚踝) to greet each other instead of shaking hands, as this is believed to be safer.
56.In the 9th century BC, what happened
A.Greek people thought the handshake was a symbol of peace.
B.The handshake was first considered as a way to greet each other.
C.A throne base found by archaeologists shows two persons holding hands.

Many animals do strange things shortly before an earthquake. What they do may be important because earthquakes kill people and knock down buildings. And the actions of the animals may help to save lives.
Some animals make a lot of noises before an earthquake. Farmers have told stories about this. Dogs that are usually quiet have started to howl. Once a farmer kept tiny pet frogs. One Sunday, the frogs jumped around more than usual and made loud noises, like bigger frogs. That night, an earthquake struck the country.
The animals can also do different things before an earthquake. Horses on farms have run around in circles. Mice have left their holes and run away. And cows have given less milk. Cats raced down the street in a group only a few hours before an earthquake hit.

John Flynn was born in Australia in 1880. His father was a schoolteacher. John studied hard and in 1911 he left the city of Melbourne and went to work in South Australia for the Presbyterian Church. The church wanted to help the sheep farmers who lived in the outback many kilometers from towns and cities. They built a number of small hospitals and found nurses to work there, but at that time there were only two doctors in all of South Australia.
One story Flynn often told was about Jimmy Darcy. One day, Jimmy had an accident on his farm so friends took him to see F.W. Tuckett, who worked at the post office at Halls Creek. It was a journey of 22 km. Tuckett was the only person in the area who knew anything about medicine. He tried to help but Jimmy was too ill. Tuckett finally talked by radio to a doctor in Perth, a city 1, 500 km away. The doctor took ten days to arrive. He travelled by car, by horse and on foot and when he arrived, Jimmy was dead. Flynn saw the planes could really help people in the outback. He wrote about his idea for a “Flying Doctor” in 1917, but it wasn’t until 1928 that a flying doctor actually took off. Infrared thermometers(红外温度计), or temperature guns, have been widely used to detect(检测)the early symptoms of COVID-19. They allow us to measure(测量)temperatures quickly. How do these thermometers work
They determine temperature by measuring the energy coming from your skin (皮肤). Everything in nature has molecules (分子) inside of it that are always moving around. This include our skin. The higher the temperature is, the faster the molecules move. The molecules give off infrared light while moving.
This kind of light can be focused or absorbed(吸收). The thermometers use a lens(镜头)to focus infrared light from the skin onto a detector called a thermopile(热电堆). The thermopile absorbs the infrared radiation and turns it into heat. The electronic sensors inside the thermometers can measure the heat and read the temperature of the skin after making some calculations (计算).
However, you might sometimes find that the results aren’t always accurate (准确的). It depend on how these devices are used. For example, how far away they are held from the body, how steadily they are held and for how long. Factors such as make-up and sweat will also affect the results.

Most bees are brown, hairy and 8 to 22 mm long. Bees live as part of a large family. Over 25,000 kinds of bees have been found. Among all of them, honey bees are the most common.
Honey bees always live in groups called hives(蜂群) Each hive has a queen, drones(雄蜂)and workers(工蜂). Like a human society, each bee in a hive knows its own job.
The queen is the largest bee. She doesn’t go out to work, but lays eggs. Sometimes a queen can lay 3, 000 eggs in a day.
Drones do not collect food from flowers. They are the queen’s husbands. When there’s not much food, drones are often kicked out of the hive.
Workers are the smallest and busiest bees. A colony can have 50,000 to 60,000 workers. They collect food for the queen and babies. They guard the hive and help to keep it cool by fanning their wings. A worker only lives for 28 to 35 days.
To collect a pound of honey, a bee may have to fly a long way. Sometimes it is equivalent to(相当于) twice around the world. Bees have to visit more than 10,000 flowers to make a pound of honey.

①Elephants are the biggest land animals alive today. We have worked with elephants for a long time, but there are still many misunderstandings about elephants.
②Some people think that elephants will run away if they see a mouse. This is untrue, in fact, elephants have such poor eyesight that they would not usually see a mouse, even if one came very near them.
③ “Elephants never forget.” is another fallacy(谬论). No evidence suggests that elephants have better memories than any other animals.
④Finally, there is the myth(神话) that when the time comes for an elephant to die, it goes to some kind of elephant graveyard(墓地), but no one has ever found such a graveyard. What elephants probably do when they are old and sick is finding a cave and staying in it, so they will be safe until they either get better or die.
⑤In Thailand, when the country was still called Siam, if someone found a white elephant, they gave it to the king because it was rare. The king had no choice but to keep the animal and feed it, even though it had no use for him. From this practice we get the expression, “a white elephant”, which means something that is not useful to us.

此句“The church wanted to help the sheep farmers who lived in the outback many kilometers from towns and cities.” 根据outback的后置定语“many kilometers from towns and cities(离城镇数公里远的)”可知“outback”意思是“一个偏僻的地方”。

根据“This is untrue, in fact, elephants have such poor eyesight that they would not usually see a mouse, even if one came very near them.”
根据“Elephants are the biggest land animals alive today.” 因此A不对;根据“No evidence suggests that elephants have better memories than any other animals.” 也就是说没有证据表明大象的记忆力最好,因此选项B说大象的记忆力最差不对;根据“In Thailand, when the country was still called Siam, if someone found a white elephant, they gave it to the king because it was rare.”
根据“We have worked with elephants for a long time, but there are still many misunderstandings about elephants.”
