Baskin was a 20-year-old sophomore at the University of South Carolina whose parents ran small restaurant. As he was the only college student in his family, his family tried their best to support him. Baskin always worked as a waiter in the restaurant to lighten his parents' burdens. He was so hardworking that many customers praised his hospitable service. His parents also appreciated and trusted him a lot.
It was a busy night at the restaurant. After a few guests walked in and sat down, they ordered a bottle of the Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse 2001-a valuable wine worth almost ?6,000.
Having to serve another table, Baskin then asked a workmate to fetch the bottle. However, since the employee was new, she accidentally took the wrong bottle of wine. Instead of the wine that was ordered by the customers, she served the Chateau Pichon Longueville Pomerol 2001, which cost about ?5,000. As the bottles and names were similar, no one noticed the mistake.
Baskin didn't realize the mistake until the customers wanted to order a second bottle after finishing the first one. He checked the order quickly and understood what was wrong. He cleverly suggested they order a different one, without letting them know what had happened, which could give him time to think about how to solve the problem.
Everything seemed normal, but Baskin was lost in thought. "What should I do to solve this problem " he asked himself. If he didn't tell the customers the mistake, he could keep the extra ?1000 secretly. As he was also the cashier of the restaurant, no one would know what happened. ?1000 was the tuition fee for the whole school year and his parents needn't work hard to earn money for him. Or he could use the money to buy his favorite laptop which his parents couldn't afford. This extra money was really a huge temptation to him. But in this way, he would lose his honesty and dignity.

While he was struggling with his options, his father came over. Seeing his mixed expression, his father asked him what was happening. Baskin couldn't help telling him the truth. His father listened attentively and gave his advice. He told Baskin he should tell the truth and admit his mistake. Baskin thought the customers probably wouldn't notice the mistake as they were not paying too much attention. His father said that he should always be honest and that way he would always be trusted. Baskin nodded seriously.

The customers were surprised at this and said they hadn't noticed the mistake at all. Instead, they said that the wine they were served still tasted very good and finished by giving him a large tip. To Baskin's relief, his father also forgave him for his mistake, saying that no harm had been done and the customers were satisfied with the service Thinking back, Baskin was grateful to his father for such good advice and also learned an important life lesson.

I was sitting next to Missy in my ninth-grade world history class when Mrs. Bartlett announced a new project. In groups, we were to create a newspaper around the culture we were studying.
On a piece of paper, we wrote the names of three friends we wanted in our group. After collecting all the requests, Mrs. B．informed us that she would take into consideration the names we chose and would let us know the results the next day. I had no doubt I would get the group of my choice. Only a few people behaved normally in the class, and Missy was one of them. I knew we had chosen each other.
The next day, I anxiously waited for the class. After the bell rang, Missy and I stopped talking as Mrs. B called for our attention. She started to call out names. When she reached group three, Missy’s name was called. So, I’m in group three,I thought. The second, third and fourth members of the group were called. My name was not included. There had to be some mistake!
Then I heard it. The last group: “Mauro, Juliette, Rachel, Karina.” I could feel the tears well in my eyes. How could I face being in that group—the boy who rarely spoke English, the one girl who was always covered by skirts that went down to her ankles, and the other girl who wore weird clothes. Oh, how badly I wanted to be with my friends.
I fought back tears as I walked up to Mrs. B．She looked at me and knew what I was there for. I was determined to convince her I should be in the “good” group. “Why. . . ” I started.
She gently placed a hand on my shoulder. “I know what you want, Karina,” she said, “but your group needs you. I need you to help them get a passing grade on this assignment. Only you can help them.”
I was stunned. I was confused. I was amazed. She had seen something in me I hadn’t seen.
“Will you help them ” she asked.
I stood straighter. “Yes,” I replied. I couldn’t believe it came out of my mouth, but it did. I had committed.

I bravely walked to where the others in my group sat. Encouraged by their big smiles, I sat down and led the project. According to personal interests and what they were good at, I assigned them with different columns of the newspaper. Halfway through it, I felt myself enjoying the company of these three people. Gradually, I learned that Mauro had few friends because he was struggling with the English language; Juliette wore long skirts or dresses every day because of her religion; Rachel had a burning desire to be a fashion designer so she had a whole barrel of unique ideas. Finally, with our cooperation, our assignment was successfully finished.
In the end, Mrs. B gave us an A on that assignment. She announced to the whole class that the newspaper designed by our group was elaborately laid out and carefully edited, with rich cultural knowledge. Our joy and happiness were beyond description. After that semester ended, I always received a friendly hello from my group. Many years later, I didn’t recall anything about the newspaper, but I did feel fortunate to be given the opportunity to see in myself a potential that inspired my actions. It is Mrs B’s insight, vision and thoughtfulness that bring out the potential in four of her students. She is the one who truly deserves the grade A.

I was in 7th grade when my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was very sudden and unexpected for our family and obviously I was beaten. I tried my best to balance my first year of middle school and my home life, even if I knew this was impossible. I hated coming home from school every day for fear of what I would see when I got home. I hated seeing my mom sick all the time; she was not herself and all I wanted was for her to stop treatment and get better. Luckily, I had lots of support from my family, friends, and teachers during this hard time to help get me through it.
At the beginning of the year, I was determined to stay on track with my homework and studying and get through my first year at middle school successfully. Slowly, I started to become more distracted while at home with taking care of my mom, cleaning the house and helping my grandma cook our meals. While I was at school, I could escape and put my mom’s sickness in the back of my mind while I hung out with my friends and enjoyed playing. I noticed that my quiz and test grades were increasingly getting worse, but I never brought this to the attention of my mom because I did not want to worry her. Eventually, all of my grades were lower than C’s.
I knew that I was not doing well at school, and I needed to get my grades back up. I knew that a lot of my teachers were cutting me some unimportant work because they knew what was happening at home. Ms. Zazoski, my English teacher was the most supportive teacher that I have ever had and I am so glad that I was in her class that year.

One day my teacher had me stay after school to have a talk with her. As I stepped up to her huge wooden desk, I could feel myself getting more and more nervous, surely knowing that she would have a talk with me about getting my grades up. Looking up, smiling, Ms. Zazoski started speaking empathetically. “This isn’t the end of the world. I know what you are going through at home, and if you need any support, I am here for you, always.” she said, in the most kind tone. “Thank you so much.” I said as she hugged me, warmth and love like my mother melting in my whole body.
That was the motivation that I needed to improve my grades. Walking out of her office, I was extremely relieved, as though a 1000 pound weight was lifted off my shoulders. It warmed my heart to know that even with obstacles in my way, there is always support nearby to help you through. I talked to all of my teachers and got all the missing work. By far, my 7th grade English teacher was the sweetest and most understanding woman that I had ever met; and now I am no longer afraid to ask for help or support.

Morty was checking out his library books when it caught his eye-a poster for Adventure Rocks Kids Camp. “Check this out!” Morty called to Ben and Fred as he grabbed three brochures and dashed to catch up with his best buddies. They all stopped, books in hands, to stare at the pictures of kids flying above canyons suspended from zip lines. They instantly believed the brochure’s headline: Summer won’t be complete until you Take it to the Limit at Adventure Rocks Kids Camp.
Ben broke the silence, “We have less than two weeks until registration opens, and it says the camp fills up fast.” Then an idea popped into Morty’s head. “Why don’t we sell lemonade and snacks by the side of the road We can pool our allowance savings for the camp.” “That’s a great Idea,” Ben said.
The sun had barely come up on Saturday morning when the kids set up their business. They chose a spot, asked permission from the homeowner, and then asked to use her garden hose for water to make lemonade.
Their business went smoothly until Ben announced that they had a comparatively small stock of lemons shortly after noon. Morty decided to make their stock go further. “Fred, when the jug gets down to one-fourth full, just fill it to the top with the water hose.” Morty was thinking out loud, “I’ll change the sign and charge 30 more cents for each cup of lemonade.” Their business went on and the three were secretly proud of the little tricks they had done.
Just as Morty finished refilling the jug with water for the third time, a vehicle rounded the comer. Morty saw the minivan with his father at the wheel and his family inside. They pulled up to the sidewalk, and his brothers and sisters jumped out, each clutching a coin or two. They were eager to support their brother’s bustling business. Morty’s family bought the last of the brownies and drank the last drop of watered-down lemonade.

When they restarted their business, they even stood a sign, saying, “We send a cup of lemonade to customers who bought it last Saturday afternoon for free.” They made over 50 cups of lemonade for a constant stream of customers with a low price and over 20 cups were for free. As you can imagine, they didn’t get enough money for the camp. But they learned a valuable lesson that one should always be honest.
