课标要求 The main activity in this section is to describe pictures of disasters by using restrictive relative clauses with relative pronouns. Students are expected to master the usage of relative pronouns in restrictive relative clauses and try to use restrictive relative clauses to describe pictures of disasters.
教学目标 （核心素养） 1. State what restrictive relative clauses are and know their functions; 2. Use a relative pronoun properly in a sentence with a relative clause; 3. Create new sentences with restrictive relative clauses to describe pictures of disasters.
教学重点 Use a relative pronoun properly in a sentence containing a relative clause.
教学难点 Use "whose" properly in relative clauses.Describe certain objects and people with restrictive relative clauses.

Step 1 Observing and discovering 1.Ask students to underline the restrictive relative clauses in the sentences in Activity 1 on page 52. 2.Ask some students to translate these sentences into Chinese and answer the following questions: 1)Which noun is modified by the relative clause 2)What information is given about the modified noun by the relative clause 3)Will the sentence still be meaningful and clear without the relative clause

3.Ask students to read the text on page 50 again and find more sentences with restrictive relative clauses. 4.Invite 2-3 students to present their work to the class. Check their answers at the same time. 5.Put students into pairs and have them translate the sentences into Chinese to each other. Also ask them to identify which nouns are modified by those relative clauses. Step 2 Focusing on different pronouns 1.Present all the sentences with restrictive relative clauses from the text on page 50 on the screen (or the blackboard) together with those from Activity 1. Ask students to categorize the sentences according to the different relative pronouns used in the sentences. 2.Provide the correct answers for students. 3. Ask students to work in groups of four and discuss the meaning and function of each relative pronoun. 4.Invite some students to present their results and check at the same time. Step 3 Practicing 1.Ask students to complete Activity 2 on page 52 and Activities 1-2 on page 90. 2.Check the answers with the class. 3.Ask students to read the requirement of Activity 3 on page 52 and the example of the conversation. And then make“Q&A” conversations about the three pictures. Invite three pairs to present their dialogues.
