The third﹣generation hybrid rice which was developed by Yuan Longping, the "father of hybrid rice” and his team underwent its first public yield(产量)monitoring from Monday to Tuesday and achieved high output. The final yield of the tested variety, G3﹣1S/P19, came to 1046.3 kg per mu (about 667 square meters), based on two plots of land in Qingzhu Village under the city of Hengyang in central China's Hunan Province.
"Some previous high﹣yielding hybrid rice varieties in China took 160 to even 180 days from sowing to harvesting, while the figure was shortened to around 125 days for the new variety. This is one of the most important characteristics of the third﹣generation hybrid rice that can reduce the use of pesticides and fertilizers, thus reducing cost and improving production efficiency. " said Qian Qian, the deputy director of the China National Rice Research Institute.
Unlike the previous two generations that required a large amount of water and fertilizers as well as demanding growing conditions and technological support, the third﹣generation hybrid rice is easier to be cultivated by ordinary farmers. So the soil, altitude and climate of the test site were not "ideal conditions" carefully selected beforehand but were close to the paddies of ordinary farmers.
Nowadays, China's average yield of rice is about 500 kg per mu. Ordinary farmers can produce 600kg to 700 kg of rice per mu by growing some excellent second﹣generation hybrid rice varieties. However, under the same planting conditions and environment, the yield of the third﹣generation hybrid rice could reach 800 kg per mu. China now feeds around 20 percent of the world's population with less than 9 percent of the world's arable(可耕种的)land.
At present, Yuan's team has nine third﹣generation hybrid rice combinations under trial, which are expected to achieve commercial seed production in the following three to four years and hope to apply the technology into the research of sea rice. The third﹣generation hybrid rice has the comprehensive strength to promote a greener and more sustainable development of China's rice production with higher quality and yield.
25.What feature of the new hybrid rice does Qian Qian mainly talk about?
A.It saves a lot more water.
B.It has a shorter growing period.
C.It saves much more farmland.
D.It achieves a higher yield.
26.Why is the new hybrid rice not tested in ideal areas?
A.The ordinary farmers know planting technology.
B.The growing conditions the new hybrid rice needs are simple.
C.The researchers want to reduce the experiment cost.
D.The previous rice farming provides researchers with experience.
27.What is the fourth paragraph mainly about?
A.The differences between the three hybrid rice varieties.
B.The promising future of the new hybrid rice variety.
C.The advanced technology of the research on hybrid rice.
D.The high output of the third﹣generation hybrid rice.
28.What’s the main idea of the text?
A.The Development of China's Rice
B.The High Yield of the New Hybrid Rice
C.The Contribution of the Great Scientist
D.The Way to Feed the World's Population
C
A sense of humor is something highly valued. A person who has a great sense of humor is often considered to be happy and socially confident. However, humor is a double-edged sword. Sometimes it can damage self-respect and annoy others.
People who use bonding humor tell jokes and generally lighten the mood. They're thought to be good at reducing the pressure in uncomfortable situations. They often make fun of their common experiences, and sometimes they may even laugh off their own misfortunes(不幸). The basic message they deliver is: We're all alike, we find the same things funny, and we're all in this together.
Put-down humor, on the other hand, is an aggressive(攻击性的) type of humor used to criticize others through teasing. When it's aimed against politicians, as it often is, it's extremely funny and mostly harmless. But in the real world, it may have a harmful effect. An example of such humor is telling friends an embarrassing story about another friend. When challenged about their teasing, the put-down jokers might claim that they are "just kidding," thus allowing themselves to avoid responsibility. This type of humor, though considered by some people to be socially acceptable, may hurt the feelings of the one being teased and thus have a bad effect on personal relationships.
Finally, in hate-me humor, the joker is the target of the joke for the amusement of others. This type of humor was used by comedians John Belushi and Chris Farley—both of whom suffered for their success in show business. A small amount of such humor is charming, but routinely offering oneself up to be embarrassed destroys one's self-esteem, and fosters depression and anxiety.
So it seems that being funny isn't necessarily an indicator of good social skills and well-being. In certain cases, it may actually have a negative effect on interpersonal relationships.
29.What does the underlined sentence mean ―Humor is a double-edged sword.
A.Humor is a tool to do two things.
B.Humor is like a sword with two edges.
C.Humor has its own advantages and disadvantages.
D.Humor is double as meaningful as a sword.
30.In bonding humor, people create a relaxing atmosphere by
A.joking about experiences they share
B.showing their personal relationships
C.teasing experiences of their friends
D.laughing at other's misfortunes
31.In the passage, the author mainly conveys .
A.humor deserves to be studied
B.humor can be classified into three kinds
C.humor has its bright side and dark side
D.humor is highly valued

It is widely believed that smiling means a person is happy, and it usually occurs when they're meeting another person or a group of people. However, a new study led by the body language expert Dr. Harry Witchel shows this isn't always the case.
In his research, he asked 44 participants aged 18—35 to play a geography quiz game made up of nine difficult questions so that they often got the answer wrong. Participants seated interacted(交互) with a computer alone in a room while their faces were video recorded.
After the quiz, the participants were asked to rate their experience using a range of 12 emotions including “bored”, “interested” and “frustrated”. Meanwhile, their facial expressions were then computer analyzed frame by frame in order to judge how much they were smiling based on a scale of between 0 to 1.
Dr. Witchel said: “According to some researchers, a real smile reflects the inner state of cheerfulness or amusement. However, behavioral ecology theory suggests that all smiles are tools used in social interactions, meaning cheerfulness is neither necessary nor rich for smiling. Our study showed that in these human computer interaction(交互) experiments, smiling isn't driven by happiness; it is associated with subjective involvement(主观参与) , which acts like a social fuel for smiling, even when socializing with a computer on your own.”
Surprisingly, participants didn't tend to smile during the period when they were trying to figure out the answers. However, they did smile right after the computer game informed them if their answer was correct or wrong. Participants smiled more often when they got the answer wrong. Dr. Witched added: “During these computerized quizzes, smiling was greatly increased just after answering questions incorrectly. This behavior could be explained by self ratings of involvement, rather than by ratings of happiness or frustration.”
32.Why did Dr. Witchel use difficult questions in the quiz game
A.To make it hard for participants to answer them correctly.
B.To make the answer period last as long as possible.
C.To discover the most intelligent participants.
D.To create a stressful situation for participants on purpose.
33.What can we infer from what Dr. Witchel said in Paragraph 4
A.Other researchers' opinion of a real smile is quite right.
B.Smiles aren't necessarily useful tools in social interactions.
C.Witchel’s study finding is the same with behavioral ecology theory.
D.Subjective involvement doesn't produce smiling in social interactions.
34.What do we know about the text
A.Participants were asked to interact with each other in the quiz.
B.Participants in the quiz smiled less often when they got the answer wrong.
C.Dr. Witchel thinks that a real smile reflects the inner state of cheerfulness.
D.In Dr. Witchel’s opinion, smiling is connected with subjective involvement.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.What Cause Real Happiness
B.How to Know Whether a Person Is Really Happy
C.Smiling Doesn't Necessarily Mean Happiness.
D.People Generally Hold a Wrong View on Happiness.

Hello, everyone. It’s nice to speak about what we can do for our school, and I think each of us can do something.
The first thing we can do is to make our campus more beautiful. Every one of us may plant a tree in the school, or organize a thorough cleaning on the campus. We can also form a good habit of putting the rubbish in the trash can. The second thing we can do is to protect the facilities in our school. When we leave the classroom, we should never forget to turn off the light or close the door. We should not leave the tap water running or waste any materials in the laboratory class.
If everyone does one thing for our school, I believe we will turn our school into a better place to study and live in.
Thank you for listening!

Text 10
Venice is the “Queen” of the Adriatic Sea. It is a very beautiful city. It is quite different from other cities in the world. There aren’t any roads and streets in the city. So there aren’t any cars or buses. There are many canals in the city. People move up and down the canals in boats to go to work, go shopping or visit their friends.
But Venice is sinking. It is going down and the water is going up. In 2040 Venice will be under water. The Adriatic Sea will cover the city. The Venetians love their city and want to stay there.
How can they save Venice They can build some strong huge walls and gates in the sea. The gates will close to keep too much water out. Thus Venice will not sink.
