Writing an essay is a difficult process for most people. However, the process can be made easier if you learn to practice three simple techniques.
 1. When you are first trying to think of ideas for an essay, put your pen to your paper and write nonstop for ten or fifteen minutes without letting your pen leave the paper. Stay loose and free. 2. Don't worry about grammar or spelling. Even though this technique won't work for everyone, it helps many people get a good store of ideas to draw on.
The next technique is to write your draft rapidly without worrying about being perfect. 3. Yet, by learning to live with imperfection, you will save yourself headaches and a wastepaper basket full of crumpled (弄皱) paper. Think of your first draft as a path cut out of the jungle—as part of an exploration, not as a complete highway.
The third technique is to try printing out a triple-spaced (三倍行距) copy to allow space for revision. 4. As a result, these writers never get in the habit of crossing out chunks (大块) of their draft and writing revisions in the blank space. After you have revised your draft until it is too messy to work from anymore, you can enter your changes into your word processor. 5. The resulting blank space invites you to revise.
A. Make sure your handwriting is neat.
B. Let your pen follow the waves of thought.
C. The second draft of the essay should be better.
D. First of all, lean the technique of nonstop writing.
E. Too many writers try to get their drafts right the first time.
F. Many beginning writers don't leave enough space to revise.
G. Then you can print out a fresh draft, again setting your text on triple-space.

Listening is one of the four primary forms of communication, along with reading, writing, and speaking. 6. There's a higher form of listening, fortunately, which leads to real communication. We call it" genuine listening". And it's the kind of practice we want to put to use. But to do genuine listening, you need to do three things differently.
 7. It is reported that only 7 percent of communication is contained in the words we use. The rest comes from body language (53 percent) and how we say words, or the tone and feeling reflected in our voice (40percent). To hear what other people are really saying, you also need to listen to what they're not saying. 8. , most everyone is tender inside and has a strong need to be understood.
Stand in another man's shoes. To become a genuine listener, you need to take off your shoes and stand in another man's. In the words of Robert Byrne," Until you walk a mile in another man's shoes you can't imagine the smell. 9.
Practice mirroring. Think like a mirror. What does a mirror do It doesn't judge. It doesn't give advice. It reflects. Mirroring is simply this: Repeat back in your own words what the other person is saying and feeling. Mirroring isn't mimicking(模仿). Mimicking is when you repeat exactly what the other person says, like a parrot. If you practice mirroring but don't really desire to understand others, they will see through it. If your attitude is right but you don't have the skill, you'll be okay. 10. .If you have both the attitude and the skill, you''ll become a powerful communicator!
A. Listen with your eyes, heart, and ears
B. But it doesn't work the other way around
C. Although you can choose an interesting topic
D. However, many people don't know how to listen
E. No matter how hard people may appear on the surface
F. Communicate with others as often as possible
G. You must try to see the world as they see it and feel as they feel

Public Speaking
Public speaking can be defined as the act of making a speech in front of a group of listeners.
The types of public speaking are deliberately structured with three general purposes: to inform, to persuade and to entertain. An informative speech has a purpose to inform, or give knowledge to its audience. 16. For persuasive speech, the speaker would try to change the mindset, perception, or behavior of the audience for their own good. Thus, the speaker needs to look for common ground with the audience and try to relate to what they might agree on. The last type is a ceremonial speech. It tends to be less formal and more personal than the other types of speeches. No matter how well you know the person you are giving speech about, try not to say bad things about them, even if it is meant to be a joke.
 17. Sparing some time to practice will help build confidence and help determine how long the presentation will last. Aside from it, knowing who the audience will be is quite necessary. Try to get as much information as possible regarding this particular area related to the audience. Knowing the "battlefield" in advance will give the speakers a huge advantage.
Language is the main aspect a speaker needs to pay attention to while giving a speech. 18. A speaker needs to choose their words carefully and make it clear to the audience what they mean. Often, when given a speech, the audience look up to the speaker to give them something new and useful. 19. Language and delivery alone will not be sufficient if the speaker does not have the body language. The movement and gesture of a speaker also affect the audience. While closing the speech or presentation, speakers can restate their main points, just to remind the audience of the important things that have been said. 20.
A. It needs to be used clearly.
B. These speeches mark special occasions.
C. The important thing to watch about is not to put in too much information.
D. The key of perfecting anything is through practice, including public speaking.
E. They can also end it with a special message and encourage the audience to ask questions.
F. Knowing how public speaking is done is a key part in understanding the importance of it.
G. Thus, the speaker needs to know how to deliver their speech to fulfill the audience's expectation.

Riding bikes should be fun, and in order to have the most fun out there, we rounded up the best beginner cycling tips to help you get rolling.
 21. .
Experiencing pain in the front of your knee Your seat might be too low, causing you to under-extend during your pedal stroke(蹬脚动作). This is a common mistake among beginners because most people feel more comfortable and confident if their feet can reach the ground.
Get a bike fit
 22. . The seat height should be high enough to give you a very slight bend in your knees when your feet are at the bottom of the pedal stroke, as mentioned above. Right reach means your arms make a 45-degree angle over the bike. Too long, and your back will be sore reaching for the handlebars. 23. .
Avoid doing too much too soon
One of the biggest reasons for injury comes from trying to take on too much mileage before you're ready. 24. . Similarly, if you're on a training ride, don't start too fast and risk exhaustion in the second half. Warm up during the first third of the ride, and then settle into a rhythm for the second.
Learn how to ride in a group
Group rides have their own rules for a reason. 25. . If it's your first time riding with a new group, hang out in the back, observe, and ask for help if you need it. No question is a silly question when your own safety and the safety of the group is at stake.

Much meaning can be conveyed clearly in our eyes, so it is often said that eyes can speak.
 26. On a bus you may look at a stranger, but not for too long. And if he senses that you are staring at him, he may feel uncomfortable.
The same is true in our daily life. If you are stared at for more than necessary, you will look at yourself up and down to see if there is anything wrong with you. 27. Eyes do speak, right
Looking too long at someone may seem to be rude and aggressive. 28. If a man stares at a woman for more than 10 seconds and refuses to look away from her, his intentions are obvious. He wishes to attract her attention, and let her know that he is admiring her.
However, when two persons are engaged in a conversation, the speaker will only look into the listener's eyes from time to time to make sure that the listener does pay attention to what the former is speaking. 29. If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking as if he's trying to control you, you will feel awkward. A poor liar usually exposes himself by looking too long at the victim. Rich and Famous
Twenty years ago the most common ambition of American children was to be a teacher, followed by working in banking and finance, and then medicine. But today's situation is quite different. 51. Instead they most commonly say they want to be a sports star, a pop star, or an actor—in other words, they hope to become a celebrity.
According to experts, young people desire these jobs largely because of the wealth and the fame. 52. Let's take athletes and singers as an example. Their careers are short-lived. Many athletes' best time only lasts a few years and singers can have a very limited career. The field that was once the focus of their lives becomes something they have little or no involvement in. As a result, they'll have a feeling of worthlessness and a lack of control. 53. The truth is quite simple: they have been so far removed from it for so long.
In spite of these disadvantages, there is greater ambition than ever among young people to achieve that status. They are not satisfied just making a living—they want to be rich and famous. Globally, more and more TV shows provide talent competitions where winners can achieve their goals in just a few weeks or months. 54. They unrealistically believe that this lifestyle is easily obtained and leads to great satisfaction.
While many people argue that there is nothing wrong with having such ambitions, others feel that this trend will finally lead to dissatisfaction as more and more people are unable to reach their goals. 55. That means they ignore the simple fact that great effort is needed before success. As a result, many people won't realize their childhood dreams, which could have a negative effect on their happiness.
A. In many ways this has been brought about by the celebrity culture.
B. People no longer have a sense of satisfaction once their goals have been achieved.
C. Besides, it can be difficult for them to adapt back to a normal everyday life.
D. The younger generation don't favor these professions any more.
E. Unfortunately, they do not always have a positive effect on people's life.
F. The reason is that they don't realize it takes talent and hard work to be rich and famous.
G. This quick way of gaining wealth and fame creates a celebrity culture among people.

Helping the environment and protecting our resources are very important activities. 56. There are several ways that you can help protect this planet we call home.
Use reusable bags. Plastic bags that get thrown out end up in landfills or in other parts of the environment. 57. Also, it takes decades for the bags to decompose(分解). There-fore, whether you are shopping for food, clothes or books, use a reusable bag. This cuts down on litter and prevents animals from getting hold of them.
 58. Instead of buying individually packaged drinks, consider buying a reusable water bottle. Not only will this help protect the environment, but it will also help you save money. A lot of coffee shops, Starbucks, for example, even offer a discount to customers who use a reusable container for their drinks.
Save electricity. Use energy-efficient light bulbs(灯泡)instead of regular bulbs. 59. What's more, make sure you turn off lights, the TV, and other devices when you are not using them. Turn off your air conditioning or heat when it's not necessary. This is especially true as the seasons change. Open your windows in the early fall or put on more clothes in the early winter.
Save water. More water is wasted than we realize. Turn off the water tap when you are brushing your teeth. Don't turn your shower on until you're ready to get in and wash your hair. Limit your water usage as you wash dishes. 60.
A. Use reusable drink containers.
B Use the air conditioning less often.
C. And students without doubt can make a difference.
D. They last longer, which will save you a bit of money.
E. Everyone should take measures to fight against the water pollution.
F. These can kill animals who get stuck in them or mistake them for food.

Most MOOCs have online forums (论坛), too, where students can discuss what they are learning. These are often really fascinating because there are so many different opinions, 64. . If you read everything on the forums, you won't have time to finish the lectures!
 65. . There is a huge range of courses on offer in hundreds of subjects, and you have the chance to learn new things and be in contact with many different types of people, all from the comfort of your own home. Why not check out a MOOC and start learning something new today

16.根据空前“ An informative speech has a purpose to inform, or give knowledge to its audience”一篇内容丰富的演讲有一个目的,就是向听众提供信息或传授知识。所以此处要告诉读者要注意什么。 C. The important thing to watch about is not to put in too much information. “重要的是要注意不要输入太多的信息”符合语境,故选C。

Knowing the ‘battlefield’ in advance will give the speakers a huge advantage”可知,抽出时间练习将有助于建立信心,并有助于确定演讲的持续时间。 D. The key of perfecting anything is through practice, including public speaking.“完善一切的关键在于实践,包括公开演讲”符合语境,故选D。

根据下文内容“Your seat might be too low”你的座位可能太低了。和“if their feet can reach the ground”如果他们的脚够得着地面。这表明调节座椅高度对于骑行有很大关系。故此段的标题应为调节好座椅高度。B项“Set your seat height right”把你的座位定好。符合语境。故选B。
22.本段的主题句是“Get a bike fit”骑自行车健身。下文中同时出现了“height”和“reach”两个关键词作为此句的中心,并且分别对其进行了相应的解释,可知同时包含着两个元素的选项为F选项。F项“To get the right fit, two elements are key: seat height and reach”要想达到合适的舒适度,两个因素是关键:座椅高度和座椅长度。符合语境。故选F。
23.根据上文“Too long, and your back will be sore reaching for the handlebars.”时间太长,你的背就会酸痛。可知,后面是对前句进行的补充说明,补充的是与之相反的情况,即too short时的情况。E项“Too short, and your knees will be too close to your arms”太短,你的膝盖会太靠近你的手臂。符合语境。故选E。
24.本段的标题是“Avoid doing too much too soon.”避免在短时间内做太多事情。G 选项与此段标题呼应,可知此段是在告诫骑行者不能贪快,要循序渐进慢慢来才能适应。同样参考后文可知,“Similarly, if you're on a training ride, don't start too fast and risk exhaustion in the second half.”同样,如果你正在进行骑行训练,不要开始得太快,否则后半段就有疲惫的风险。可再次佐证。G项“ Build up slowly, ease in,and give your body time to.”慢慢来,给你的身体时间慢慢适应。符合语境。故选G。
25.与上文的“Group rides have their own rules for a reason. ”团体游有自己的规则是有原因的。 相呼应,可知,如果不按照一定的规则来则容易造成混乱,导致车队中的冲撞。也可通过后文的“hang out in the back, observe”到后面去,观察一下。再次推断出来。D项“It's easy to cause a crash if your riding isn't predictable”如果你的骑行方式不可预测,很容易造成车祸。符合语境。故选D。

 46. A smile and a friendly greeting for the student behind you in line at the cafeteria won't make you best friends. But it will make you both feel good. It can also make it easier to interact the next time and the time after that.

Just because you feel left out in one group doesn't mean you will feel like an outsider in every other one. Look for a group that allows you to feel comfortable gradually.

Sometimes feeling accepted and liked comes more easily when you do something for others rather than wait for them to make you feel better. 48. . Teach a child for reading. Take notes for a disabled classmate. You might be surprised at the connections you make.

Use reusable bags. Plastic bags that get thrown out end up in landfills or in other parts of the environment. 57. Also, it takes decades for the bags to decompose(分解).

Reasons Why Change Is Good for You
We all know that change is hard because your brain is used to doing the same thing again and again. 66. But the positive consequence is really great. Here are four reasons why change is good for you:
◆ 67.
Life in the comfort zone is easy. You simply follow a routine and you can predict the results. Outside of the comfort zone, your assumptions are questioned. The idea of doing the same thing over and over without question is discouraged.
◆ You get to experience more.
 68. When you look back on your life, all of the really amazing things are because of a new experience you had. All of those vacations you took and all of the people you have met have taught you more than you ever learnt in school. These experiences now make up who you are today.
◆ You'll be more flexible and adaptable.
Without doubt change makes you more flexible and adaptable. You learn to deal with things in a way that seems foreign but acceptable and achievable. 69. You begin to thrive(茁壮成长) in new situations because you have proven to yourself that you can not only handle change, but FLOURISH.
◆ You have more fun.
When you are open to change, you are open to saying YES to more. You are open to more experiences and opportunities. 70. When you add all of these things together, you are going to have a more colourful life and you'll have a ton of fun figuring it all out along the way—there's no doubt about it.
A.You are pushed out of your comfort zone.
B.Experience is waiting for you at the doorstep.
C.You have the opportunity to meet more people too.
D.Whether the change is good or bad for you, it does happen.
E.We also know how challenging it can be to go through change.
