(2022·重庆江津·校联考一模)根据短文内容回答下列问题
The meaning of silence is different among different cultures.
Many people in some Asian cultures think silence is a basic part of communication. When a traditional Chinese or Thai is speaking and suddenly stops, he probably wants the listener to consider what he has said before he continues. Many people may think silence is a sign of respect, especially to an elder or a person with power.
Western cultures may use silence in other ways. In America, if you keep silent in a conversation, the speaker may think you’re impolite or not listening to them carefully. Russian, French, and Spanish persons may use silence to show they agree with the discussion of the topic. However, Mexicans may keep silent when instructions are given by a person with a lot of power, even though they don’t agree with the instructions.
In our daily life, if we know the exact meaning of one’s silence, it’s quite helpful, too. A man was ill in hospital. One morning, when the nurse said “Hello!” to him, he said “Hello!” back. “How are you feeling now ” the nurse continued. But the man lay in bed and looked at the nurse, saying nothing. “Not well, right Then I will check it for you, OK ” the patient was still silent. Then the nurse passed him a cup of warm water. He drank it quickly. After that, the nurse checked up his health. “Mr. Smith, your blood pressure is a little high. But don’t worry, you’ll soon be well again after taking some medicine.” The man smiled and said, “You’re the best nurse I’ve ever met.” You see, this is how silence works.

Have you ever lied to someone Students share their stories about this topic.
Student A: I tell lies sometimes because I don’t want to be criticized (指责). For example, I didn’t do well on an exam once. In order not to let my parents down, I told them I didn’t have any exams, so they didn’t scold (责备) me.

(2022·重庆巴南·统考模拟预测)The sentences parents use with their kids are powerful. However, many parents don’t know how to use the proper sentences. Here are some sentences that kids need to hear.
“You can do it.”
Many kids are happy to let mom or dad do everything for them, such as cutting up food, getting something to drink, or putting on clothes.
Parents should often tell their kids, “You can do it. I know you can do it. ” Or just “Do it yourself!” Some parents might think it’s harsh(严厉的), but it can push kids to learn things faster.
“We’re all out.”
For these lucky ones, there are plenty of toys and snacks. These kids don’t know how to cherish what they have.
Just run out of one thing every week. Orange juice, cereal(麦片)—whatever. Tell them, “We’re all out,” and don’t rush to the store to replace it. Let them understand it’s normal to lack something.
“We can’t afford that.”
Parents should not feel sorry if they are not able to buy anything and everything for their kids.
Just because you want something does not mean you can have it. This is what kids should know well of. It’s best to learn this lesson from an early age.
“Don’t go off with strangers.”
Many parents would tell kids not to talk to strangers. It suggests that everyone is a possible bad guy. Kids may choose not to ask for help when they really need it.
Instead, tell them not to go off with strangers, no matter how nice they seem. It will keep them safe in a better way.

It’s very important for everyone to sleep. We spend about one-third of our lives sleeping. So we should pay more attention to the quality of sleeping. However, a lot of people have trouble in sleeping. Some people even take sleeping pills to help them sleep better. In fact, taking sleeping pills is very dangerous. That’ s because sleeping pills are habit-forming(上瘾的). If you take them for several weeks, you will find it hard for you to stop taking them. Then, what should you do if you have trouble getting a good night’s sleep
Doctors say that the best thing to do is to get out of bad habits. In other words, you can’t stay up too late at night and you should get up earlier in the morning. However, you may still have trouble sleeping if you have problems or something else on your mind. Then it’s time for you to do some exercise to relax your tense muscles(紧绷的肌肉). If relaxing your body can’t help you, try to write down your worries on your mind. If you like listening to music, you can choose some music that is quiet and gentle. Everyone is different and unique, thus everyone does not learn in the same way. Here is the question: Which is better, group studying or studying alone
Studying alone allows you to set the perfect study environment so you get the most out of studying. It also allows you to use the most effective (有效的) learning methods. Some students learn best with flashcards while others learn best when they reread texts. Find your learning methods, and make your studying be the best results.
When you study alone, you’re able to pay attention to exactly what you need to learn. It’s easy to look over the: things with which you’re already comfortable: and familiar.
When you set a date and time to get together with a study group, it stops you from procrastinating (拖延) because you know other people are counting on you to be there.
When you study in a group, you can remember more information. This is because you take your notes and put the information into your own words rather than reading from a textbook. Moreover, it’s very similar to teaching the others in your group, which leads to remembering the information better.
Being with other people allows you to get different ideas about the things. Sometimes someone can say just one sentence or word and it will all make sense.
25.Do people learn differently

26.How do you avoid procrastinating

The moment that Jiang Mengnan received the award of Touching China for 2021, she said she most wanted to express thanks to her parents.
Born in 1992 in Hunan Province, Jiang’s world has been silent since she was 6 months old, after she took the wrong medicine which was harmful to her hearing. So, Jiang’s parents began to teach her to learn lip reading (唇语) so that she could study in a normal school rather than a Special Education school. Things were not easy but they succeeded finally.
With her parents’ help, she learned to put her hands on her parents’ throats when they talked. It was a slow and hard task, but she never gave up. Learning a single word required her to practice at least 1,000 times, and different people having different ways of speaking added difficulties to her school and social life when it came to lip reading. However, she made it and completed the task which seemed impossible. Through lip reading and self-study, Jiang learned to speak and she was able to keep up with learning and was accepted by Jilin University with a high score of 615. In 2018, she was accepted as a PhD candidate (博士学位预科生) at Tsinghua University’s School of Life Sciences.
More importantly, she helped inspire (激励) disabled children in many places to fight for success. Because of her hearing loss, she couldn’t be a doctor. Instead, she chose pharmacy (药剂) to help reduce people’s pain. Another thing she made up her mind to do was teaching children like her not to lose hopes because of their disability. Jiang often visited special education schools and met with students. She told them to do their best to achieve goals like so-called healthy persons.
She believes that people with disabilities have no need to feel discouraged, as they can do the same or even better than non-disabled people around them. When God closes a door, he opens a window, and this girl believes that all challenges are gifts.

Western fashion and modern designs have been popular in China in recent years, but a growing number of young people are now looking to the past for fashion advice.
If you look closely around your city, you might see hanfu, the traditional clothing of the Han dynasty. In a recently published report by online shopping website Tmall, more than 2 million hanfu were sold in 2020. The number of hanfu buyers increased by 92 percent compared to 2019. The average age of buyers was 21, with about 52 percent between 19 and 24 years old.
But why has this traditional clothing become popular among young Chinese people
For some of them, it’s a costume for relaxation. Wang Kehan, a 24-year-old college student, said that dressing in hanfu is a way for her to escape the trouble of real life. Modern clothing, on the other hand, represents the identity (身份) people need to show every day.
“Hanfu and modern clothing help me to show the different sides in me,” she explained.
Other young people like hanfu because of the culture behind it. They regard it as a way to reconnect with traditions. Its wide sleeves (袖子) , crossed collars and flowing robes (飘带) bring people back to ancient times.
“What’s behind hanfu is the deep Chinese tradition,” said Zhou Yihao, a 21-year-old costume studio owner.
That’s probably why some fans have started to bring the traditional clothing abroad. Sohu reported on a Bilibili vlogger who climbed Germany’s highest mountain wearing hanfu. She received praise from tourists.
Maybe in the future, hanfu will have more and more fans.
