Compare and Contrast
Compare and Contrast（比较与对比）是用来描述两个事物之间的相似性和差异性的写作手法。比较侧重事物之间的相似之处，而对比侧重于事物之间的不同之处。
本单元的课文“SATISFACTION GUARANTEED”讲述了女主人公Claire试用丈夫公司研发的家用机器人Tony的故事。文中多处使用了比较和对比的写作手法。如：第二段中的He seemed more like a human than a machine，通过比较说明了Tony与人类在外貌上的相似之处(tall, handsome, smooth hair, deep voice)。
紧接着用有对比之意的标记词although引出Tony和人类的差异（although his facial expression never changed），说明了Tony和人类之间的不同之处。如：Tony安慰Claire时也使用了比较的手法（she was being sensitive and was just as good as Gladys），表明Claire与Gladys同样优秀。
除了教材上罗列的compare和contrast的常用表达之外，此类表达还有：
Compare: like, so, too, still, in common with, both ... and ..., also, just like, seem like等；
Contrast: unlike, while, yet, vary, opposite, differ, differences, distinct, distinguish ... from ..., instead (of), (rather) than, the difference is ...等。
此类标记词可以帮助同学们在阅读时捕捉事物之间的相似性和差异性，准确把握事物的特征。
