Today was my first day in England and I learned something about the weather here.
今天是我在英国的第一天，我了解了这里的天气的一些有趣的事情。
一般过去时的基本结构为：某人/某物+动词过去式(+其他).
一般过去时表示在过去某个时间发生的动作或存在的状态，常和yesterday（昨天），last night（昨天晚上）等表示过去的时间状语连用。
Today was my first day in England and I learned something about the weather here.
今天是我在英国的第一天，我了解了这里的天气的一些有趣的事情。
Eg:
— Were you at home on vacation 假期你在家吗？
— No, I wasn’t. I went on a journey with my parents.
不，我不在家。我和我的父母亲去旅行了。
But when I was outside, the weather quickly changed.
但当我在外面时，天气很快改变了。
在这个句子中，“when I was outside”是一个时间状语从句。该状语从句在此处放在了主句前，并用逗号隔开；该状语从句若放在主句后为“But the weather quickly changed when I was outside.”

知识拓展：状语从句
常用的状语从句主要有以下几种：
地点状语从句，其引导词有where，wherever等。
Eg: We moved to Beijing where we lived for six years.
我们搬到了北京，在那里我们住了六年。
原因状语从句，其引导词有because，as，since等。
知识拓展：状语从句
Eg: We can’t buy it because we have no money.
我们不能买它，因为我们没有钱。
条件状语从句，其引导词有if，unless等。
Eg: If it is fine tomorrow, we shall go to the country.
如果明天天晴，我们就到乡下去。
