It was not turning out to be the great fishing trip we had imagined. It certainly was not the one Father had promised. All day the rain beat against the roof of our cabin.
Father sat at the window, looking out over the lake. My older brother Jeremy, who had recently turned sixteen years old, lay on the bed, looking up at the ceiling. I paced the room, occasionally glancing toward Father to see if there was any sign that the rain would let up.
“I wish we’d never come out to this boring place,” Jeremy said.
I stopped pacing and looked at Father. He gave no sign that he had heard, and I hoped he hadn’t. This trip meant a lot to him. He used to come out here with own father.
I started pacing again.
“I mean, if we’d stayed home, at least I could watch TV, go out with my friends or play my guitar,” Jeremy continued.
Silence continued for some time. I kept pacing, imagining the trip I had dreamed of before the bad weather had set in. I saw us in the boat, anchor dropped in a calm bay casting our lines toward shore, the way Father had described it when he was trying to convince Jeremy to come along.
Father stood up and turned to face us. He smiled at me. “Come on, get up, Jeremy,” he said. “Let’s go fishing, boys.” He picked up his fishing rod and the tool box, opened the door, and walked out into the rain.

Roads have existed from ancient times. Could you imagine how difficult travel would be if we didn’t have them Now, bees in England will soon have roads of their own so they can safely find the right direction.
That’s because without our intervention(干预), 40-70 percent of our bees and other pollinators(传粉昆虫) will become extinct, according to the non-profit Buglife, unless action is taken that will allow species to move easily through the landscape. Today, wildlife is contained in small pieces of habitat that will now be linked by using B-Lines.
The B-Lines are part of an online map that identifies routes that can be turned into pollinator highways.
The plan started by Buglife is looking to restore at least 370, 658 acres of habitat across the UK.
The organization said on its website, “B-Lines have been mapped across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and large areas of Scotland. Along with conservation partners, land managers, businesses and local authorities, we are helping to fill the mapped places with restored and new wildflower-rich areas.”
Planting wildflowers is really vital to the survival of the pollinators. According to Positive News England alone has lost over 97 percent of its wildflowers since World War II and this loss of habitat has been disastrous for species like bees and butterflies.
A complete England B-Lines network is a real landmark step in our task of turning around the decrease of insects and lending a helping hand to our struggling pollinators, said Catherine Jones, pollinator officer at Buglife.
Buglife identified ways that people can help pollinators. The ways include: growing more flowers and trees; letting your garden go wild; cutting your grass more infrequently; leaving insect nests alone; being careful to use chemicals that are safe for pollinators.
Every action for pollinators, no matter how big or small, can contribute to the B-Lines network and a secure future of pollinators,” according to the non-profit.

At the age of 86, agriculture teacher Gerald Bonds has seen plenty of crises during his career. He sees no reason to leave the profession over the coronavirus crisis. Bonds is in his 58th year of teaching at Farmington High School in Farmington, New Mexico. Like most teachers in his state, he has been instructing his students from home, which he truly dislikes.
“I hate it. I want to see the students face to face and talk to them,” Bonds told reporters with The Associated Press. Some teachers have retired early or taken leave because of the difficulties of distance learning and the health risks of in-person teaching. But many longtime instructors like Bonds are choosing to stay.
The states of New Mexico and Maine have the oldest teachers in the country, with one in four older than 55. That information comes from a 2018 study of teachers and school leaders by the National Center for Education Statistics. Almost six percent of New Mexico’s educators are 65 or older, notes the New Mexico Public Education Department.
With few exceptions, New Mexico’s schools have been providing only distance learning. So far, this has saved many teachers from dealing with the health risks of being in classrooms with students. Ryan Stewart is the New Mexico Education Secretary. He told the AP that his state is making health and safety number one. Teachers whose health is at a high risk can ask for low-contact or no-contact teaching work, he said. For some parts of the state, this will cause a shortage of teachers and make it harder to return to in-person learning, he noted.
