How would you feel if you received a large amount of money all at once
That's exactly what happened to Nkosikho Mbele, a worker at a gas station in South Africa. His sudden luck was brought about by an act of kindness he did for a young woman-Monet, a company manager.
One day, Monet stopped at the gas station to refuel（加油）. But when Nkosikho was about to serve her. She realized she didn't have any money or cards on her. She immediately tried to stop him. Knowing about her trouble, Nkosikho decided to pay her gas bill of about R100（$7）to make sure that she could travel across the highway with enough gas.
"Madam. I'll pay for you so that you won't run out of gas on the road. Whenever you are near here again, you can just give me back the money," Nkosikho said. As for him, the R100 was almost all he made in a day. He had to support a big family. He needed the money very much. He wasn't even sure if Monet would come back to return his money, but he still volunteered to help her.
Several days later, Monet came back with his money and a box of chocolate. She was so thankful that she also ported their story on the Internet. Great changes took place. Nkosikho became famous in his town. Many people were moved by his act and offered to raise. money for him. Nkosikho received around $24, 000, as much as about his salary（薪水）of eight years. His boss also heard of his kind act and decided to give him a rise in salary.
“I feel like I'm dreaming. My life has been turned upside down,” Nkosikho said thankfully. As normal people, we can bring a great change to life by doing a small good thing.

Thanks to advances(进步) in technology, how we make friends and communicate with them has changed greatly.
Nowadays, we can move around the world and still stay in touch with our friends. Social media tools(社交媒体工具) let us see what our friends are busy with and maintain friendships.
The digital age(数字时代) also enables us to find people who share our interests. Whatever our hobbies, the Internet can connect us with others who also enjoy doing them, even if they live on the other side of the world.
But when you “friend” people online, does this mean that they really are your friends It depends.
If people always exchange true personal information online, then yes, these friendships can be real and meaningful. But we need to remember that what we see on social media is often not the whole truth about a person. Sometimes smiling photos can hide real problems. On the Internet, nobody knows you’re a dog. A young person could be old; a woman could be a man; we could even be sharing our information with criminals.
But this doesn’t mean that we should throw the baby out with the bathwater. Although technology has changed the way we acquired(获得) friends, the meaning of friendship and our longing for friends remain the same. As Aristotle said, no one would choose to live without friends, even if he had all other goods.

There was a baby whale named Ella. She lived with other whales in a deep bay. One day, she noticed something large pass overhead. It was as big as a whale, but it wasn't.
Ella had never seen a boat before. Although Ella was scared, she was curious(好奇的), too. She forced herself to swim to the surface. She saw several faces watching her. In fact, they looked very friendly. In the few months, Ella lost her fear of boats. People in the boats always enjoyed seeing her.
As time went by, people and boats became a part of her life. Whenever a boat passed overhead, she swam to the top to say hello. One night, Ella saw a lot of fish swimming around the bottom of a ship. Suddenly, she was caught by a fishing net. She fought hard to get free. Finally, she got away, but part of the net was tangled(缠住) in her mouth and around her tail. Ella was hurt and confused(困惑的). Slowly and sadly she made her way towards the deep ocean.
Many weeks passed, and the net in her mouth made it hard for her to eat. And every time she tried hard for air the net cut into her tail. But if she didn't get air every half an hour, she would die. Winter was coming, she had to move to warmer waters with others. However, this time she had no choice but to stay in the bay and wait to die.
One morning, to her surprise, the water was filled with boats. When the boats came closer, a person reached into the water. Soon many hands touched her. Ella felt them pulling the lines of the net. Moments later, she was free as before! The people were waving their starfish-shaped hands. Ella knew that the hands would always be there in her life.
