1．教学背景分析
教学内容分析： The theme of this unit is Music, while the theme of the reading text is “Learn about experiencing music online”. The text introduces a new music style----virtual choir. It mainly talks about the four factors of virtual choir and the story of Eric Whitacre, who started the virtual choir and the meaning and function of the virtual choir. 学生情况分析： This text is related to music, which almost all the students are interested in, but as to the virtual choir, most of them are not familiar with. After reading the text, students can learn about the virtual choir and cultivate their cultural awareness of this new music style under the background of globalized pandemic.
教学目标分析
By the end of the period, students will be able to: know what the virtual choir is and how it works; practice reading skills of skimming and scanning to match the main ideas and find them out; dig out the factors that contribute to the success of the virtual choir through discussion.

To learn about different music and their features, and the new trend with the development of the Internet; To learn about the features and the linguistic characteristics of explanatory text

StepⅠ Lead-in Lead students to sing a song together and give out the definition of “choir” according to the pictures. Propose a question----Was it possible for people to have face-to-face contact and still sing in a choir together during the pandemic Show a video about the virtual choir and lead students to give out the definition of “virtual choir”. StepⅡ Predicting for possible information Look at the picture and the title and then think about what do you want to know from the text. Suggested answers: I would like to know about what exactly is a virtual choir Who created it Where can people take part in it How does a virtual work Why is it developed… Step Ⅲ Skimming for the main idea Skim and match the paragraph with its main idea. Give one word to paraphrase the main idea and illuminate the structure. Step Ⅳ Careful reading Activity 1　Read Paragraph 1 and find out the key elements of virtual choir. Scan for the dates in Para. 2 2.Ask students to retell Eric Whitacre’s life according to this timeline. Suggested answers: In 1970, he was born. In 1988, he began studying music at the University of Nevada. In 1995,he graduated from university. In 1997,he received a master’s degree in musical composition from the Juilliard School in New York. Over the next 10 years, Whitacre’s original compositions began to become quite popular among choirs and singers. Discuss what leads to the creation of the virtual choir, is it only because of the popularityof Eric Whitacre’s original works Suggested answers：It is Eric’s love, knowledge and the popularity of its original works that leads to the creation of the virtual choir. 6. 教学反思
课堂设计太过紧凑，没有给学生留下充分的时间去探索和思考，也没有去聆听更多同学的不同想法，留给学生展示的时间不足； 阅读课应要提前说明阅读文本的体裁，从而让学生根据不同阅读文本的体裁运用不同的阅读技巧； 考虑如何将阅读文本内化并运用于写作； 课堂用语应更加丰富多样化，尽量避免重复使用同一表达； 板书设计不够完善，应加强练习和学习； 教姿教态应该更加大方自然，口语表达应注意音调起伏变化。
