But there was something in the young boy that lit up whenever the subject turned to poetry. One day Donald kept Jim after school and learned that Jim stuttered ( 口吃). Donald understood that Jim had accepted the written word because the spoken word had escaped him. The next day, Donald told the pupils to write a poem. Jim turned his assignment in, and Donald was surprised by how good it was.
The teacher read the assignment over and over again in disbelief and, truth be told, with a little bit of envy; how could a student from the middle of nowhere come up with something like this He turned his head once again to the boy and began to have an idea.
Donald had noticed earlier that Jim’s stutter disappeared whenever he quoted his favorite poets out loud .

Gina was a very nice, educated lady and didn’t mind Carl being carried by others. Kelly, however, never allowed Cheemi to touch Carl. How Cheemi wished she could play with him!
That year, Panshet Dam collapsed and the waters of the Mutha river, near Pune, had entered the city. The water rose fast. There was confusion everywhere. Police vans were trying to help.
When water entered their house, Kelly and Gina were on the ground floor. Within seconds the water rose. The police persuaded Kelly and Gina to climb to the top floor. In the hurry and confusion, they forgot that Carl was sleeping on the first floor!
The staircases were flooded. It was impossible to get to the bedroom on the first floor. The door to the room was closed but not bolted(闩上). Any moment the water could rush in. The women panicked. “Carl!” they cried. “What will happen to our Carl ”
Suddenly the police discovered that one of the bedroom windows was open, but it was too small for an adult to crawl in. Only a child could. But no one was willing to let their children take the risk.

At the same time, I was amazed how they had adapted to their new environment. They moved easily and beautifully, their lack of sight seeming to be no problem at all. I spent hours watching them playing happily in the pool, nosing large red and blue balls.
Three years later, in spring 2020, a serious illness damaged my eyes, making me almost blind. My eyes had to be protected from sunlight, so I couldn’t go outside. I sat in my bedroom with the shades drawn, unable to read or even watch television. I was terrified. What if I lost my sight completely How would I possibly manage I felt so depressed that I began to lose hope.

But that morning, patrollers had cleared loose snow on the peak, reducing the chance of a snowslide.
“What do you think ” asked Warren.
“Let’s go for it!” Scott replied.
When they reached the top of 16-to-1, Warren excitedly looked back at Scott. The huge, toothy grin on his bearded face was what he needed. He pointed his skis downhill and took off. So thrilled were they that they isolated everything around them. Flying on the trail, despite the biting wind, their hearts burnt with passion for this great skiing. Whoomph! A sudden roar from behind nearly deafened them.

I suddenly realized she’d been silent only because she was new. We started talking more, and we got along so well that we started hanging out after class. Then, almost a year later, guess who showed up at karate.
“This is so cool.” I said, giving Abigail a huge hug. “What are you doing here ”
“My mom’s job in New York didn’t work out,” she explained. “So we got to move back.”
“That’s the best news ever!” I said. “You have to meet my dear friend Ava. And Ava, meet my dear friend Abigail.”
I put my arms around their shoulders. Feeling very excited, I told them I hoped we could get along well and be close friends, while Abigail and Ava stared at each other with some hesitation and an uncertain smile.
