With the annual Campus Art Festival approaching, an exhibition featuring original works of
students is to be held. On behalf of the school English newspaper, I am earnestly appealing to
every student to participate.
Aimed at celebrating this special occasion, the exhibition focuses on reflecting students’
colorful daily life. Any kinds of works are welcome, ranging from poems to paintings and so on.
Students whose works are selected will receive an award. Whoever wants to take part is required

This time I would not hide my desire any more. Determined to follow my heart, I explained
to my father how I felt. I told him that I wanted to go to a college to learn to fly instead of being a
farmer. After saying this, I waited nervously for his reaction. To my surprise, he approved my
request, and he told me he was moved by my perseverance. With his support and my efforts, I was
admitted into my ideal college.
At the graduation ceremony, with my father present, I, as “Best Pilot”, had to deliver a
speech. In my speech, I shared with the audience my story about how a teenager realized his
dream. Faced with difficulties, I took a path that led me do something that needed passion,
training and practice. I also owed my success to my father’s support. Without his understanding, I
couldn’t have pursued my dream. At the end of my speech, I spotted my father’s watery eyes, and

【原文】W: Handing power tools over to young students could result in some disastrous
situations. But if those tools are combined with effective supervision and teaching, the students
can learn valuable new skills and might even find a new career path.
One such program, in Washington, D.C., aims to teach woodworking and finished carpentry
skills to teens and young adults. It includes a woodshop, completely housed inside a truck, that
acts as a kind of “classroom on wheels”.

The Mobile Woodshop program was started by the nonprofit Zenith Community Arts
Foundation. Margery Goldberg, Zenith’s director, said the goal of the woodshop is “to get people
jobs”.
Joe Largess is a teacher at the woodshop. He said much of the class centers on teaching
students “soft skills”. These are skills that are desirable in all jobs, such as teamwork, having a
strong work ethic, being able to follow instructions and arriving to work on time. Students also
learn basic skills like math and how to read a ruler.
Ryan is a student at the mobile woodshop. Before entering the class, he had some experience
working with wood and tools. “I wanted to give myself a chance to get better at it. That’s why I
started the class,” Ryan said. Ryan said he sees another benefit to learning woodworking: “You
can sell some of this stuff and make money for it.”
