教学目标 By the end of this period, students will be able to 1.Through extracurricular reading, learn about Lin Qiaozhi's life and her main achievements. 2. Be able to speak in appropriate language about Lin Qiaozhi, a prominent figure in obstetrics and gynecology, and people who have made significant contributions to society.
教学重点 Let students learn to find out the topic sentence of each paragraph to catch the main idea of the passage quickly. Let students learn how to express the reasons and meanings of life choices.
教学难点 1. Deeply understand the content of the text, obtain main information, understand the life of the characters, and learn to describe and express them in appropriate language. 2. Talk about people who have made contributions to society in appropriate language
情感目标 Understand the background information of Lin Qiaozhi and true meaning of morals and virtues to everyone. Arise the students awareness of contribution to society.
学生分析 本课对象为我校高一年级文科班学生，他们学习英语的动机强，学习热情高，对于节日与庆祝这一主题有了初步的认识，且具有一定的阅读理解能力，但缺乏对文本的深层理解与整体分析能力。因此，本课旨在引导学生在本课的学习中结合文本特点快速而准确地找到主题句，梳理、分析和提炼不同国家、不同民族节日的精神内涵，理解世界各国人民共同的情感和精神追求，提升学生的阅读水平。
文本分析 This is a narrative article that gives a brief introduction to Lin Qiaozhi's life. The first paragraph summarizes the full text, leading to the protagonist of the article, Lin Qiaozhi, through her famous quote. The second paragraph briefly introduces Lin Qiaozhi's childhood and her adult choices - to continue studying instead of getting married and having children. The third paragraph introduces Lin Qiaozhi's experience after graduation and her determination to provide better medical services for women and children in the motherland. The fourth paragraph introduces Lin Qiaozhi's efforts to overcome all difficulties and obstacles, without seeking to repay them, and to treat more impoverished people. The fifth paragraph introduces Lin Qiaozhi's great contributions to obstetrics and gynecology since the founding of New China. Finally, I summarize Lin Qiaozhi's outstanding contributions to the people throughout her life.

Step 1 Warming up by activating and predicting the topic （7分钟） Activity 1: Show a picture 1. Show a picture to introduce one important choice one may make. 2. Invite Ss to share ideas about the choices they have to make throughout their life. 3.Show a video about Dr Lin Qiaozhi，and have a free talk。 利用视频和教师自己的选择经历创设情境，引出主题。激活学生背景知识并引出学生问题，形成阅读期待。

Step 2 Reading for the topic sentence of each para. （6分钟） Activity1: Read for the topic sentence of each paragraph. 本环节首先让学生运用通读和寻读等阅读策略，让学生快理清文章结构。先展示主题句特点，即一般的段落由主旨句和支撑的细节组成，且主旨句常位于段首。这一环节旨在培养学生关注段落结构并提取句子关键词的能力。为后面的细节阅读做好铺垫。

Step3 Scanning for details (20分钟) Activity1: Read for the details. 本环节是阅读并回答相关问题，这些问题既包含事实细节题，又有观点态度题，还有推理判断题。 针对每段内容设计任务。引导学生进行探究，为他们输出提供了表达语料。从情感过渡到态度，由事实判断过渡到价值判断。

WHY DO WE CELEBRATE FESTIVALS
1 Festivals are celebrated all around the world. They have a wide range of origins, such as the seasons of the year, religions, famous figures, and important events. Every festival has its different customs and unique charms. However, no matter how different they may seem, all over the world, the spirit of sharing joy, gratitude, love, or peace is common in all festivals.
2 Of all the traditional festivals, the harvest festival can be found in almost every culture. This important agricultural festival takes place after all the crops have been gathered in. People celebrate to show that they are grateful for the year's supply of food. In ancient Egypt, the harvest festival was celebrated during the springtime--the Egyptian harvest season. It featured a parade and a great feast with music, dancing, and sports. Today, in some European countries, people decorate churches and town halls with flowers and fruit, and get together to celebrate over a meal. During the Mid-Autumn Festival in China, families gather to admire the shining moon and enjoy delicious moon-cakes.
3 Customs play a significant role in festivals, but sometimes they can change over time. With the development of modern society and the spread of new ideas, some traditions may fade away and others may be established. One example is the typical Chinese Spring Festival custom of lighting firecrackers to drive away the evil spirits and celebrate the new year. Nowadays, many big cities have given up this custom in order to avoid air pollution. Another example is Halloween, which slowly became an exciting festival for children, in spite of its religious origins.
4 Festivals are becoming more and more commercial, with businesses taking advantage of the celebrations. Online shopping websites and social media apps have made it much easier for the public to spend more on gifts for their loved ones. Although some believe festivals should not be commercialized, others believe the increase in
spending is good for the economy and public happiness.
5 Festivals are an important part of society. They reflect people's wishes, beliefs, faiths and attitudes towards life. They are occasions that allow us to relax and enjoy life,and forget about our work for a little while. They help us understand where we came from, who we are, and what to appreciate. And if you study festivals carefully, you may be surprised to find that different cultures actually have a lot in common after all.
