教学目标 By the end of this period, students will be able to know the reasons and meaning of celebrating festivals. identify the sentence patterns and expressions from the reading text. 3. figure out the main idea of each paragraph by finding out the topic sentence. 4. express their own ideas on the given topics through critical thinking.
教学重点 Let students learn to find out the topic sentence of each paragraph to catch the main idea of the passage quickly. Let students learn how to express the reasons and meanings of festival.
教学难点 Enable students to know the main structure of the passage by analyzing the main idea of each paragraph. Enable students to express their personal ideas with the help of the target vocabulary.
情感目标 Ss learn about the significance of festivals and make the Ss know about the foreign festivals and respect other countries’ custom.
学生分析 本课对象为我校高一年级文科班学生，他们学习英语的动机强，学习热情高，对于节日与庆祝这一主题有了初步的认识，且具有一定的阅读理解能力，英语基础薄弱，缺乏对文本的深层理解与整体分析能力。因此，本课旨在引导学生在本课的学习中结合文本特点快速而准确地找到主题句，梳理、分析和提炼不同国家、不同民族节日的精神内涵，理解世界各国人民共同的情感和精神追求，提升学生的阅读水平。
文本分析 文章标题为Why do we celebrate festivals （我们为何庆祝节日），分为五个段落，大意分别为：1.节日是全世界普遍存在的文化现象; 2. 收获的节日存在于每一种文化当中; 3. 全世界节日的习俗都正在发生改变; 4. 节日变得越来越商业化; 5. 节日是全世界人民社会生活的重要组成部分。在对段落大意归纳的基础之上，还需读者仔细揣摩、提炼和推理作者隐藏在字里行间对这一问题的深层阐释和观点，并与之产生情感上的共鸣和观念上的碰撞。 文章标题Why do we celebrate festivals 中关键词why， celebrate，和we值得关注探讨。本环节还提供了两张插图，一张与中秋节有关，图中月光下的月饼，花灯和茶营造了赏月的情景；另一张与母亲节有关，图中的礼物，康乃馨和卡片营造了一片温馨的感恩气氛。这些为学生探索节日的起源，习俗以及意义提供了丰富的视角，也为学生提供了深入理解文本提供了多种途径。

Step 2 Reading for the topic sentence of each para. （6分钟） Activity1: Read for the topic sentence of each paragraph. 本环节首先让学生运用通读和寻读等阅读策略，让学生快理清文章结构。先展示主题句特点，即一般的段落由主旨句和支撑的细节组成，且主旨句常位于段首。这一环节旨在培养学生关注段落结构并提取句子关键词的能力。为后面的细节阅读做好铺垫。

It is often the first sentence. but sometimes it is found elsewhere in the paragraph.
Step3 Scanning for details (20分钟) Activity1: Read for the details. 本环节是阅读并回答相关问题，这些问题既包含事实细节题，又有观点态度题，还有推理判断题。 针对每段内容设计任务。引导学生进行探究，为他们输出提供了表达语料。从情感过渡到态度，由事实判断过渡到价值判断。
Read each paragraph and answer the questions. 1.Read the first paragraph, tell me the function of the word “However” here. 2.Read the second paragraph, why do we celebrate the harvest festival 3. Read the fourth paragraph ，What is the writer’s attitude towards the commercialization of festivals How do you know it 4. Read the fifth paragraph What meanings do festivals have in our society Suggested answers: 1.“However” can give us some hint that the text contains and it is divided into two parts by it. The part before this word, in fact, is not what the writer lay emphasis on but the latter part is. When we are reading, we should pay more attention to the content that follows the word “however”. 2.We celebrate the harvest festival to express gratitude to nature for the year’s supply of food. When celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, people often get together to admire the shining moon and enjoy delicious mooncakes over a family big dinner. 3.The writer doesn’t directly say. Overall, he seems to think that it is a positive thing as it helps the economy and makes it easier to buy gifts. 4.Festivals are an important part of society. They reflect people’s wishes, beliefs, faiths, and attitudes towards life. They are occasions that allow us to relax and enjoy life, and forget about our work for a little while. They help us understand where we came from, who we are, and what to appreciate.
