I met Steven on my way to Dublin Airport at the end of a business trip. A cheerful, talkative fellow with
a friendly smile. As a local taxi driver, he has probably visited every street of the city. But his childhood years
spent in Swansea makes him feel Welsh.
“I often wonder where home is for me, I’d like to think it's Swansea but I have a life here now,” he
explained to me. Having left Swansea as a teenager, he has since lost contact with all his childhood friends,
and most of his family left there too.
His words surprised me, as I had considered cultural similarities and ease of movement across Europe
made the concept of home unrelated. I had thought high tech communications in our globalized world would
have shortened the 250 miles distance between Dublin and Swansea to almost none.
It’s just not what I pictured. But I should not have been surprised. Despite growing global connectivity,
identity is still central to people’s hearts. Looking back at my own life, I feel perhaps I understand Steven’s
situation. I was born and grew up in Chongqing, in Southwest China. After living for eight years in London, I
have made many local British friends and learnt to appreciate British humor. With a reputation as one of the
world’s most multicultural cities, London always makes its residents feel welcome regardless of their origin.
But I also felt a little “something missing” in Steven’s words.
As China increasingly opens up to the world, more and more Chinese will travel abroad to work, study
and live, but China will remain forever a home for them. And sitting in Steven’s taxi, witnessing his love for
Swansea, I realized the desire for such a place you belong to is universally shared.
24. Why does the writer mention Steven’s story
A. To describe a wonderful taxi driver he met in Dublin.
B. To share interesting travelling experiences in the UK.
C. To show the difference between his life and the writer’s.
D. To introduce people’s feelings of living far from home.
25. What does the writer intend to tell us in Paragraph 4
A. The longer one stays in a place, the more connected he feels.
B. London has become his sweet home regardless of his origin.
C. Globalization doesn’t take away people’s desire for identity.
D. Steven and the writer both feel unwelcome in a strange place.
26. Which of the sayings can best explain the writer’s feelings in the end
A. East or west, home is best.
B. Great minds think alike.
C. Beauty lies in the lover’s eyes.
D. All roads lead to Rome.
27.What’s the best title for the passage
A. My Oversea Life in London
B. The Longing for Home
C. A Story of Two Cities
D. A Small, Small World

In our daily life, anxiety, curiosity and jealousy are often applied to describe emotions in different
situations. But what do these have in common The common theme is this: they are a state of feeling that
results in physical and psychological changes that influence our behavior. Besides adding variety or “color”
to our lives, emotions help us respond to important situations and communicate our thoughts to others. In the
meanwhile, emotion is also linked to behavior. Some people are more likely to be social and express their
emotions, while others are more likely to hide their emotions in public.
What happens when we experience emotions In brief, emotional responses have four parts: a physical
response, an interpretation(演绎) in the mind, feelings, and an effect on behavior. These do not happen in any
special order--- they happen at the same time and affect each other. Now we will show this process with the
most carefully studied of all emotions: fear.
To understand the physical response, imagine you are frightened by an aggressive noisy dog. Your brain
sends messages throughout your body by releasing a chemical called adrenaline(肾上腺素), which the body
carries to other parts of the body. Then, the bodily reactions begin. Blood flows from your stomach. The blood
flow in the face decreases, which makes you become whiter.
The second aspect is interpretation in the mind of events and feelings. This is both conscious and
unconscious. In fact, the more you think about the dog, the more frightened you become.Thinking like this
sends both your feelings and your physical response to new heights.
The “feeling” aspect of emotion comes from two sources. In one, the brain senses the body’s
reaction. The other comes from memories of your body's reactions in similar situations in the past.
Finally, emotions can also affect behavior. In response to the aggressive dog, this could be the so-called
“fight-or-flight” response which appears to be part of our biology. In this, the person either becomes more
aggressive or runs away.
28. What can we know about emotions according to the passage
A. Emotions can take control of different situations in our lives.
B. Emotions have a close connection with our behavior.
C. Emotions must do more than just add thoughts to our lives.
D. Emotions enrich people’s life and make it more challenging.
29. Why does the writer mention the emotion fear
A. To explain how carefully fear is studied.
B. To prove the four parts happen in the fixed order.
C. To show how the four parts function together.
D. To suggest that fear is an extreme emotion.
30. According to the passage, which can best describe a person’s response before a frightening dog
A. Facial blood flow becomes faster.
B. He becomes totally unconscious.
C. His past memories affect him.
D. He becomes aggressive at once.
31. What is the passage mainly about
A. Emotions and what happens when we experience them.
B. Emotions and purposes of emotional responses.

C. Emotions and how they influence our behavior.

Everything one enjoys in life has a price. There is no free lunch in the world, for, generally, someone
pays. This reality informs why we need to be careful when surfing on the Internet. Every action has its
consequence; nothing is free. Therefore, one pays for everything else, somehow, somewhere and sometime;
and the Internet is no exception. It never forgives. It never forgets.
Besides the fact that someone sees and can locate whoever is using any device that has a tiny front
camera (cell phone, tablet, laptop or desktop), you leave digital footprints each time you visit the Internet. Is it
not surprising that often search engines and online marketing platforms suggest to you things similar to what
you have already searched for or bought This fact is possible because you leave digital footprints. These
footprints can not be removed on the Internet so long as the Internet exists. Deleting is a pure trick because it
gives you the impression that the stuff is gone. But it remains. It is gone from one level of Internet operations
but remains at other deeper layers. All our digital footprints and records are all stored in the cyber cloud. A
simple analysis of your activities on the Internet for the past ten years will shock you as to the extent the
Internet remembers.
Yet responsible use of the Internet can be a boon for a young person. Prevention in time saves one from
falling victim to the destructive consequences of the misuse of the Internet. Rightly said, unexamined use of
the Internet and irresponsible involvement with the social media leads to psycho-social and emotional
disorders that upset progress and ruin a person. While engaging in the Internet, be mindful that your activities
today can work against you in the near, distant or eternal future when you might have grown or changed.
The Internet never forgets, so be careful of your activities on social media. While engaging in social
media, think about the future so as not to allow the Internet to ruin your dream. Indeed, some suffer awful
consequences because of their childishness, carelessness or ignorance. Keep in mind always: the Internet
neither forgives nor forgets.
32.What can we learn about “deleting” in Paragraph 2
A. It can completely remove the stuff you don’t want.
B. It remains on certain layers of Internet operations.
C. It will be stored for a short time in the cyber cloud.
D. It can be somehow traced down within ten years.
33. What does the underlined word “boon” mean in Paragraph3
A. Benefit. B. Talent. C. Problem. D. Burden.
34.What’s the writer’s attitude to the Internet footprints
A. Doubtful. B. Uninterested. C. Cautious. D. Unclear.
35. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. Users should delete digital footprints timely while surfing the Internet.
B. People should put the Internet security in the first place anytime.
C. Internet surfers will suffer consequences unless the Internet forgives.
D. People should use the Internet responsibly in case of a terrible future.

Dramas help children explore new worlds, become people from different times and learn about
different perspectives. Exploring these things can give them the skills needed to be innovative and imaginative.
In an ever-changing world, having a creative approach is so important for thinking ‘outside the box’ and
coming up with new solutions.
Drama improves verbal and non-verbal communication skills
Drama skills can help children develop their communication and presentation skills, which are vital
skills for anyone! Activities where children take on different roles help develop their expression. 38
Drama develops empathy
Drama requires members to play different characters. 39 As a result, members are
encouraged to develop empathy–the ability to view the world from another person’s perspective without
judgment.
Drama encourages cooperation and new friendship
40 Dramas are a strong platform to foster cooperative spirit. There is nothing that bonds a
group of people quicker than making a drama together. Drama requires children to openly express themselves
throughout the activities, which helps members become friends by supporting each other.
Many schools now recognize drama as one of the best ways to promote emotional intelligence. They
believe drama education can result in a positive and long-lasting transformation that would not have happened
in a traditional education system.
A. Drama develops creativity.
B. Drama improves concentration.
C. Teamwork is undoubtedly an essential part of drama.
D. Dramas develop children into better communicators and storytellers.

The bird was shivering, so I decided not to grab it by hand but just transfer the whole shoebox into my

Back home, I couldn’t see any obvious 48 of injury. I hadn’t seen this species of bird before, so I
googled for a 49 on the internet. After a while, I came across something that looked like a match: a
fantail, so called because of its 50 feathers that, when fully open, spread out into a neat little “fan”.
I phoned the bird specialist of my local rescue group. She told me this species hunts 51 on the wing,
and I needed to release it the next day on the same street it came from.
I waited until evening the next day, which would provide the cover of 52 , to release it. I was back on
the street where I’d rescued it, gently holding the bird, and wondered what would be 53 for this delicate
creature this time around Nothing. It would have to take care of itself just as before, and be strong enough to
catch some insects and recover its energy levels without delay.
I held the bird as 54 as I could to give it a good lift-off: the little bird 55 swiftly into the
darkness without a pause. My first rescue had ended in a successful release.

(Text 1)
W: I heard that Mike won first prize in the school speech contest.
M:What He hardly talks to anyone. Well, I guess we can never judge a book by its cover.
(Text 2)
W: Have you been to the exhibition in the gallery There is an amazing collection of stone figures. I
like the way they’ve been arranged.
M: Yes. Deep blue next to pure white, for example. It's similar to the effect of paint on a canvas. It
would be good to have photos of each stone in its original environment.
(Text 3)
M:Have you got the support of other shopkeepers
W: Yes, we're doing all we can to increase trade - special offers, late night opening. But if customers
get nowhere to park, they'll go elsewhere. So we really need to provide a space for them.
(Text 4)
W: We have all these basketball courts. I think we can organize fun matches for people who just
want to turn up after work.
M: Yes, we can supply the balls. All people have to do is turn up and play for ... however long they
want.
(Text 5)
M:Good morning. My name's Paul Flynn. I recently renewed my membership and I was told I'd get
my new card in the post. But it still hasn't arrived.
W:Ah yes. I've got your card here. We need an up-to-date photo before we can release it.
(Text 6)
W: Have you seen Jim since it happened
M: Yes. I've been around his house a couple of times. And I' ve lent my class notes to him. He was
going to spend his holiday touring with his football team but he had to give up.
W: When will he be able to play again
M: The doctor said it would be a couple of months before he can start training. Probably longer
before he can play for the team. It takes months for a broken leg to recover fully.
(Text 7)
W: Thank you for calling Jordan Stadium. How may I help you
M:Hi. I ordered tickets for tomorrow's concert, but they haven't arrived in the mail yet.
W: I'm sorry to hear that. When did you order the tickets
M: On Monday, the day before yesterday. The concert will be held tomorrow. What should I do
W: If for some reason, they don't come today or tomorrow, then just come to the ticket office at least
one hour before the concert and we'll print out new ones for you.

W: I just want to do some voluntary work during the summer holiday. Could you recommend me a
voluntary project
M:Of course. The first is a group who call themselves the Lothians Conservation Volunteers. They
help plant trees and build fences to keep animals. They go out every Sunday, and once a month
there's a residential task, when they go a bit further and spend the whole weekend away.
W:Anything else
M: The other project is the Orkney Seal Rescue Centre. The goal is to take care of 50 seals every
year with a variety of problems. No experience is necessary. Volunteers are expected to help with
cooking, and participate in house-cleaning activities.
W: Oh, I' m good at cleaning, so I can try that.
M:If you want to help out, they require a minimum commitment of four weeks. It would be better if
you could speak English.
(Text 9)
M: What did you do before you became an actor, Tina
W: When I left school, I was a trainee working for an accountancy firm in Newcastle.
M: How did you like it
W: It was a big firm which handled the accounts of lots of companies. I didn't want to say it was not
demanding. Sometimes I was kept very busy working late into the night. But I must admit, I was
happy with what I was doing.
M: You did that for two years
W: Yes, then I got a place in a drama school. While at drama school I worked as a street musician. It
was interesting. Three years later I joined a theatre club.
M: And your interest in performing goes back to your grandmother, doesn't it
W: Yes, she once worked in the theatre. What we did have at home when I was a child was her
theatrical make-up. My elder sister used to write plays and we sometimes covered ourselves in this
make-up and act them out, dressed in bits of old clothes.
M: So what do you like doing when you are free
W:Er...
(Text 10)
I'm here to talk about my experience of studying journalism. I decided to do journalism because
I heard about how good the course was from my cousin, who majored in it. He is a newspaper
reporter now. Then I applied for it online. The tutor Jim Tyler was great. In my first class, we were
asked to write an article and we could choose the topic ourselves. Someone mentioned a guy who
repaired bicycles free of charge. That reminded me l' d heard about a retired teacher who'd taken up
making violins. Jim said that was a great idea. So I started to write my first article! I also joined in
some reporting exercises, such as a boy being stuck in a tree and rescued by boat. Although on the
whole, the course was fantastic, there were a few things that were less so. I mean, compared to
learning about photography, the typing lessons were pretty boring! I know they will come in useful.
Now I'm looking for a job. It's tough. But I've got an interview next Monday for a job as a junior
reporter for a radio station. It' d be amazing if I got that!
