Pandas in Qatar
In order to celebrate FIFA World Cup 2022 Opening Ceremony （开幕式）, on a special plane from China, two giant pandas---Si Hai and Jing Jing---arrived at Doha, the capital of Qatar. ChatGPT, a smart AI chat-bot tool, has swept the education world in the past months. According to a US survey of more than 1,000 students, over 89 percent of them have used ChatGPT to help with their homework.
Developed by US company OpenAI, ChalGPT is a powerful tool. You can ask it to write stories and emails, translate languages, and answer all kinds of questions.
Some schools in the US, Australia and France have banned （禁止） the use of ChatGPT. In the US, for example, New York City public schools banned students and teachers from using ChatGPT on the area's networks and devices（设备）.
The move comes out of worries that the tool could make it easier for students to cheat（舞弊）on their homework. Some also worry that ChatGPT could be used to spread incorrect information.
"It does not build critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, which are necessary for academic （学术的）and lifelong success," said Jenna Lyle, he deputy press secretary of the New York City Department of Education.
Apart from bans, teachers are making changes to their classes to prevent the use of ChatGPT. Some college teachers in the US try to include more speaking exams and handwritten papers instead of typed ones.
However, not all educators say "no" to ChatGPT. Some Canadian universities are writing policies on its use, for both students and teachers. They have no plans to completely ban the tool so far.
Bhaskar Vira, the head n aster at the University of Cambridge in the UK, said that bans on AI software like ChatGPT are unwise."We have to know that AI is a tool people will use," he told Varsity, the school newspaper of the university."What we need to do is change our learning, teaching and examinations. There is no doubt that artificial intelligence (AI, 人工智能)has changed our life, and continues to do so. Earlier this month, there were many AI technologies at Baidu World 2020, the leading tech company’s annual technology meeting.
Fully autonomous (自动的) driving
Baidu has trained an “experienced AI driver”. It’s a driving system that can operate without a human driver. Sometimes I really doubt whether there is love between my parents. They don’t act in the romantic ways that I read in books or I see on TV. In their opinion, “I love you” is too luxurious (奢侈的) for them to say. Sending flowers to each other on Valentine’s Day is even more out of question. And my father has a bad temper.
