Mike will never forget his trip to Bulgaria. He found everything interesting, like the restaurant he went to one day. After he finished his food there, a waiter politely (有礼貌地) asked if he enjoyed it. The food was delicious and the service (服务) was great. So Mike showed that he really loved it by nodding his head.
Strangely, the waiter did not smile but frowned (皱眉). It was like that he was not quite happy with Mike's answer. Mike did not know what was wrong and felt very upset (沮丧的). Tarrick Walker is a 12-year-old boy from California, US. One day, one of his classmates called him a "dumb (蠢的) N-word". The N-word is a bad word that is used to insult (侮辱) black people. Walker reported this act of bullying (欺凌) to his school. But he realized that not everyone has the courage (勇气) to do this. He started an activity to help people fight against bullying.

The story of Dr Percy Julian is an example of one mans hard work and bravery. Percy was born in 1899 in Alabama, US. Because he was African-American. he couldn't go to the same schools as white children. The schools he went to did not teach science. And yet, he had a strong interest in chemistry.
After college, Percy wanted to go to graduate school so he could become a chemist. But one school after another turned him down because of his skin color. Finally, Harvard University accepted him. He got his master's degree (硕士学位) at the age of 24. Then he went to Europe. In 1931, Percy became Dr Percy Julian, a doctor of chemistry.
For the rest of his life, Dr Julian worked with chemicals (化学物质) found in plants. He knew that some plants had chemicals that could heal (治疗) people. So he created those same chemicals in a lab. That meant more people could get the medicine they needed. He developed chemicals that treated people with eye diseases and ease the pain that some people had in their bones. Dr Julian also used chemicals to invent many new products.
