(2022·广东湛江·高一期末)Can you survive an unannounced storm Although there is expert broadcasting and we are equipped with cellphone, there're still some instances when the violent weather takes us by surprise.
While most Atlantic hurricanes form off the coast of Africa giving plenty of early warning sudden Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico hurricanes form and move rapidly in less than a day's time, endangering everyone and everything in their path.
There have been oil workers trapped off the shore when sudden storms appeared. Field archeologists have been stuck in coastal areas without storm warning. It wasn't but a few decades ago that a Texas National Guard group was trapped on the beach by rain-forced flooding and had to ride out a major hurricane during a training exercise. There have been a few instances when travelers were trapped on an island or in a coastal area and unable to escape in time.
Escaping from the storm-threatened areas is generally a choice for most of us——but not for all. Each year thousands of islanders across the Caribbean face the danger of hurricanes without so much as a public shelter to hide in. Most ride out the storm in their homes.
But there're a few things you can do to prepare yourself for some unexpected emergencies. Being prepared for the unexpected may be your best and only defense. If you're headed to the great outdoors for a few days or weeks, you should always carry a flashlight (手电筒) with extra batteries,a GPS device (装置), and a basic medical box. If you're traveling in your car, remember you may suffer from high winds. You'd better not stay inside to avoid being blown away along with your car. Keeping your head and your courage up is essential to survival in any type of danger. Let common sense guide you and always be prepared for the worst.
4.According to the text, most Atlantic hurricanes_________.
A.form in the Caribbean Sea.
B.come from Gulf of Mexico.
C.develop off the coast of Africa.
D.are from the Pacific Ocean.
5.What is the third paragraph mainly about
A.The bad situations of oil workers.
B.People trapped by sudden storms.
C.The danger of traveling on an island.
D.The Texas National Guard group.
6.What is the purpose of the last paragraph
A.To give some advice.
B.To encourage traveling.
C.To give some warnings.
D.To underline the danger of hurricanes.
7.What is necessary in the unexpected emergencies
A.A fast car.
B.An experienced guide.
C.Confidence in the help from others.
D.More practical knowledge of survival.

(2021·新疆维吾尔自治区喀什第二中学高一期末)Earthquakes happen without warning (前兆). They can happen any time of a day, at any point during the year. But don’t
worry because most are so weak that they cannot be felt. Only a few big ones hurt people. However, it’s important to know what to do when an earthquake is happening.
Do NOT go outside. You could get injured from falling glass or parts of buildings. If you are outside, stay away from buildings and power lines (输电线).
Stay under a desk, table, or other strong furniture. Hold on to it. Or stay in a corner of the building. Cover your face and head with your arms and cover your mouth with a towel or clothing. Stay inside until shaking stops and it is safe to go outside.
Keep away from windows, pictures or advertisements on the wall or the building, and anything else that could fall and hurt you. Most people get injured by falling things during an earthquake, not by the shaking itself.
Also keep away from a fire. You could fall down and burn yourself on the fire.
If you are driving when an earthquake happens, stop the car if it’s safe. Stay inside your car until the earthquake stops, and don’t drive near bridges. Try not to stop by power lines or trees. These could fall and hurt you.

(2022·湖北省通山县第一中学高一期末)There were still lots of aftershocks(余震), often this would lead to all the students running outside, normal classes were impossible. Lots of students were troubled by recent events and many would not sleep in their dormitories. On
the afternoon after the earthquake there was a thunderstorm, the loud crack of thunder sent some students towards the door. As they returned, the relief and laughter were evident in this latest false alarm.
The weekend after the earthquake we were in Chengdu on a pre-arranged trip. During that weekend, there were dozens of aftershocks. It was at this time that we decided enough was enough; we would complete our contracts then leave that summer. At the end of that weekend, there had been over 400 aftershocks with a few measured as high as 6.0 on the Richter scale.
On Monday afternoon, exactly one week after the first shock, there was a memorial service on TV for those that died, were missing or injured. It was observed by all the students in my class, many were openly crying, others in silence with their heads down. The rest of that afternoon it was difficult to teach. I was getting an increased feeling of “I don’t want to be here anymore,” I could see many of the students did not want to be at school either.
We eventually left Wenchuan on the 15th of July; lots of students told us they were surprised we stayed that long. When we arrived in Sichuan province, we were not aware we were even in an earthquake area. Prior to 2008 there had not been a serious earthquake in the province since the 1930’s. By November 2008, there had been more than 40,000 reported aftershocks.
12.What does the underline phrase memorial service in the third paragraph mean
A.A grand march B.A mourning ceremony
C.A celebration party D.A great speech
13.What can we conclude from the passage according to the author
A.A journalist who happened to be in the earthquake-stricken area,
B.A writer who collected materials for writing science fiction.
C.A tourist who was travelling in Sichuan during the earthquake.
D.A teacher who stayed with the students when the earthquake struck.
14.Why did some students laughed when they rushed to the door
A.Because there were no more aftershocks. B.Because there would be no more classes.
C.Because they mistook the thunder as an aftershock.
D.Because they were troubled by the terrible earthquake.
15.How might the author feel when he left Sichuan after July
A.Relieved B.Surprised C.Shocked D.Disappointed

I looked forward to a visit with my mom, who lived 2,000 miles from my home in California. Since Mom was 80 and suffered from Alzheimer’s (阿兹海默症), I realized how important it was to see her again soon.
Mom received loving care from the Sister Servants of Christ the King at a 40-bed, basic-care facility (场所) in Edgeley, North Dakota. She lived in a simple room, spent most of her day doing simple things, and seemed to be “all right, “considering that dementia (痴呆) had set in.
When Mom came in, I smiled, hugged and kissed her, and said, “Nice to see you, Mom.” She didn’t recognize who I was! I was shocked.
Stressed out, I spent several hours trying to connect with my mother—talking with her, walking around the grounds, looking at family pictures in her room, chatting with the nuns (修女) —doing whatever I could think of to help Mom recognize her son. I hoped for a recognition “wonder”. But nothing I said or did worked, I was very annoyed.
The next morning, I suddenly had an idea. I thought of something that might stir her memory (记忆).I thought of strawberry milkshake (草莓奶昔). Yes, strawberry milkshake in Edgeley, North Dakota. So I took Mom to the Edgeley Coffee Shop. I wanted to treat her here. While Mom was looking at the menu, I took Sandy, the waitress, aside, quietly told her of Mom’s dementia condition and my plan to recall her long-term memory, and ordered two strawberry milkshakes.
The first paragraph: When Sandy delivered the milkshakes, I was too nervous to say a word.
The second paragraph: There’s a simple explanation for Mom’s memory.
注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;

根据上文“It is impossible to stop a hurricane or make it change its way, so if you ever find yourself in the path of a hurricane(阻止飓风或改变它的方式是不可能的,所以如果你发现自己正处于飓风的路径上)”和下文的大概内容可知这一句可作为文章的中心句,放在首段的最后一句,引出下文的内容。D项:Be sure to follow the safety tips below(一定要遵循下面的安全提示)符合语境。故选D。
17.
根据上文“Be sure you have a battery-powered radio, full-charged mobile phones, fresh drinking water and a supply of food.( 确保你有一个电池供电的收音机,充满电的手机,新鲜的饮用水和充足的食物。)”和下文“be sure you have full supply(保证你有足够的供应)”可知,前句有Be sure you have..., 后句也是be sure you have full supply(保证你有足够的供应),是进一步阐述发生的需要供应充足的情况,所以E选项中的Also连接适当,另外在危机中,什么情况下保证有足够供应呢? Also, if anyone of your family needs special medicine(还有,如果你家里有人需要特殊药物)符合语境。故选E。
18.
根据上文“If you live near the ocean, in low-lying area, or in a mobile home (如果你住在海边,低洼地区,或者住在活动房)”和下文“You could stay with a friend or family member in an inland hotel or motel, or in an emergency shelter area.(你可以和朋友或家人一起住在内陆的酒店或汽车旅馆,或在紧急避难所。)” Leave your home and travel inland to a safe place(离开你的家,到内陆一个安全的地方旅行)符合语境。故选B。
19.
根据上文“If local authorities instruct you to evacuate, do it immediately.(如果当地政府指示疏散,请立即撤离。)”和下文“If the electricity goes out, the fuel pumps at gas stations will not work.(如果停电,加油站的油泵就无法工作。)” Before a hurricane arrives, be sure your family’s car is filled with fuel.(在飓风到来之前,确保你家里的车装满了燃料。)
根据下文“You could be seriously injured if you go outside.(如果你出去,你可能会受重伤。)” A项:Stay inside during the storm.(暴风雨期间呆在室内。) 故选A。

46.Dear Kate,
I’m writing to inform you a newcomer, of some tips on hurricane safety so that you can survive this common threat to a coastal city.
Knowing what to do matters when a hurricane strikes. Before a hurricane, make sure your property is protected. Close windows and bring indoors anything that could blow away. You should have sufficient food, water, medicine and batteries for emergency. During a hurricane, you’d better stay in the shelter, away from windows and listen to weather warning. Do not assume the storm has passed and go out even if the wind stops. Dangerous winds may return.
Yours

47. When Sandy delivered the milkshakes, I was too nervous to say a word. My mother looked at me with the milkshake in her hand. I was a little bit disappointed, wondering what to do . I sat opposite my mother, drinking the strawberry milkshake as fast as I could, just as I was a child. She drank the milkshake slowly. After about three minutes, she stopped, looking at my empty cup, and then her full cup. And then she poured her milkshake into my cup ,saying, smiling,“Joseph, when did you come back here ” .
There’s a simple explanation for Mom’s memory. When I was a kid, my family was not rich enough to buy more strawberries. Even so, father would buy some as strawberry milkshake was the favorite of both my mother and me. Every time mother made the strawberry milkshake, my family would sit around the table, drinking and chatting. In fact , mother was always watching me drinking the milkshake. If I drank up mine, she would pour hers into my cup.

本文续写内容合理,描写详略得当,重点突出,同时表达时也使用了很多高级词汇,如a little bit disappointed有点失望;opposite对面;as … as sb. can尽某人所能;just as正如;pour… into把…倒进;even so即使如此;favorite最喜欢的;sit around闲坐等;还运用了复杂的句式,如“with的复合结构”的运用with the milkshake in her hand;现在分词作伴随状语的运用I sat opposite my mother, drinking the strawberry milkshake;时间状语从句的运用 Every time mother made the strawberry milkshake, my family would sit around the table等。Unit 2 Natural Disasters

A.A journalist who happened to be in the earthquake-stricken area,
