Louise Gluck has been no stranger to awards over her long and storied career, since her first publication in 1968. In 1993, she won the Pulitzer Prize for her collection of poems, The Wild Iris. And on Oct 8 she became the 16th woman to win the Nobel Prize in literature with the Nobel prizes first awarded in 1901.
Gluck was honored for her unmistakable poetic voice that, with simple beauty, makes individual existence universal. Often said to be an autobiographical poet, drawing from the inner parts of her life, “Gluck is not to be regarded as a confessional (忏悔) poet. She seeks the universal,” Nobel Committee Chair Anders Olsson said in a statement.
Gluck, 77, the author of 12 poetry collections, has been able to turn her life experiences into universal themes covering life, loss and isolation (孤独). Because of this, readers have often found her poetry to be “dark”. However, there is much more than darkness in her voice, as noted by Olsson. “It is direct and ... also a voice full of humor,” he said.
For example, in her poem Snowdrops, she uses the coming of spring after winter to show rebirth of life after death. She leads readers down a depressing path only to reconnect with the light at the near end. At the conclusion of the poem, readers are left to feel the “cool wind of the new world” as they watch a new spring. This is often the case in Gluck’s poetry, being able to feel joy even after not having done so for a long time.
Although she’s already a well-known writer, experienced in exploring pain and healing (愈合), Gluck did feel honored to be given the famed Nobel award. However, when asked what the prize means to her, the lyric poet responded by saying, “It’s too new… I don’t know really what it means.” Her only hope is that she can preserve her daily life.
4.What do we know about Louise Gluck

Canadians have a global reputation(名声)for being polite. A survey ranked Canada first out of 50 countries. Most Canadians think that while being polite can be a superficial attitude when people are communicating with friend and strangers, being “kind” to others generally requires a much greater effort and truly knows who you are as a person.
A national survey made by Environics Research Group for Coca-Cola Canada shows that on average each Canadian has shown kindness to others through random(随意的)actions four times in the last four weeks. Examples of their kindness include things such as opening a door for a stranger, offering to carry heavy items or giving up your seat for someone else in a public bus.
With millions of acts of kindness happening every day, most Canadians surveyed felt kind folks deserved more recognition for their actions. Coca-Cola Canada has decided to praise some very special individuals who make others happy with good acts in their own communities. The goal is to share their stories to help inspire(鼓舞)others to give a little kindness too.
“When it comes to kindness, seeing really is believing,” says Carolyn Harty, Senior Brand Manager of Coca-Cola. “More than half of Canadians are inspired to pay it forward themselves when they see others making a kind gesture. It is these small acts of kindness that make a large difference and inspire people and create happiness.”
Sixteen-year-old Sheliza Kassam, from Canada, decided on her thirteenth birthday that instead of gifts, she and her family would help feed families in need. Her small action became larger and developed into a non-profit organization that Sheliza now runs to hold birthday parties for children living in shelters who otherwise would not be able to celebrate their special day.
Another teen Nathan Unrau started out with a one-time school charity project that just couldn’t help. With the support of his parents, Lunches with Love has become a non-profit organization that makes and gives away 450 paper bag lunches to the local homeless people every other Saturday.
8.For what are Canadians famous all around the world
A.Working hard.
B.Being grateful for others’ help.
C.Behaving well in public.
D.Having good manners.
9.What does the national survey mainly tell us
A.Why Canadians show kindness.

A.To encourage all the people to spread kindness.
B.To celebrate the great events of kindness.

Plenty of science fiction (sci-f) movies over the decades have shown us different versions of Mars. The truth about the Martian surface might be exciting because it's real. And with NASA' s Mars 2020 mission set to launch this summer, we're facing more discovery.
So far, thanks to a decade of research enabled by NASA's Curiosity rover, we've learned that lakes, rivers streams and likely oceans used to appear on Mars. While its water disappeared over three billion years ago, it tells us that Mars used to be habitable. This knowledge confuses us because so far, we've seen no clear evidence of life there, not even a virus. But if Mars was once habitable, wouldn't it have life
NASA is now prepared to take the next step to answer this question with the launch of another rover, Perseverance. Every time a rover goes to Mars, it just stays there, with no way to fly back home. So we have never brought rock or soil samples back from Mars.
Perseverance rover will change this. Its primary and unique purpose is to collect samples that a future spacecraft can return to Earth. These samples will tell us more about the geologic history of Mars than anything we've learned, which is already a lot. Since 2012. the Curiosity rover has traveled more than a dozen miles, making observations along the way with its 10 instruments.
Thanks to data from the Curiosity rovers Sample Analysis at Mars instrument, we know that Mars does indeed have organic materials. That’s more complex than we expected to find on the surface of Mars. And that's exactly why we want to gather the most interesting samples and bring them back to Earth. We expect to find out much more about Mars once we get samples back from the Mars 2020 mission.
12.What is the purpose of Mars 2020 Mission
A.To explore the Martian surface. B.To travel around the universe.
C.To show the power of NASA. D.To study the life on Mars.
13.What does the underlined word "habitable" in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Enjoyable to visit. B.Suitable for living.
C.Ready for changes. D.Convenient to travel.
14.What was the problem with Mars exploration before Perseverance
A.The rovers could not reach Mars.
B.Observations were hard to make.
C.Samples on Mars couldn't be brought back.
D.Study instruments got lost in the space station.
15.Which of the following can be the best title of the text
A.New Mars rover to be launched B.Sei-fi movies on Mars to be made
C.Curiosity to bring back Mars samples D.NASA to send manned rover to Mars

I take part in several days ago为省略关系词的定语从句修饰先行词the National English Speaking Competition,根据后文“several days ago”可知此处应用一般过去时。故take改为took。
本句中to understand为make的宾语补足语,所以要去掉to,故去掉understand前的to,
分析可知,本句的主语是participating in this competition,为动名词,谓语应用第三人称单数,故have改为has。
故his改为their。
52.One possible version:
Dear John,
I am sorry to hear that you are lonely in this new school. Now I'd like to offer you some suggestions.
It’s normal for you to feel lonely because you are living in an entirely new environment. To adapt yourself to the unfamiliar surroundings, you'd better take an active part in class and after-school activities. What’s more, don't be afraid to show people what you are really good at. It's easier to make friends when you have similar interests with others. To be frank, I'd like to be your friend and I invite you to come to my house on Sunday.
I hope everything will be fine with you in the future.
Yours,
Li Hua
