The best travel movies of all time
Movie theaters around the world have closed during the coronavirus outbreak. Fortunately, there’s never been
a better time to catch up on classic movies. Below, read our picks for the best travel movies:
Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
It’s one of the most satisfying films of director Wes Anderson’s works. Set in an imaginary country East
European Republic of Zubrowka in the 1930s, the plot is centered on a murder case filled with stolen art and
prison escapes.
Though the hotel doesn’t actually exist, much of the film was shot in the beautiful German town of Goerlitz,
famous for its medieval streets.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001)
When Harry Potter runs through a column at King’s Cross railway station in London to get to Platform 9 ,
we know it isn’t real. And yet we want to visit.
The movie’s locations are inspired by real places, as graduates of English private schools will tell you.
Roman Holiday (1953)
Equal parts bittersweet and fascinating, 1953 fairy tale “Roman Holiday” features a princess (Audrey
Hepburn) and a newspaperman (Gregory Peck) in a romantic film that has them wandering the Spanish Steps and
breaking into the streets of Rome on a Vespa.
In a time when those streets are quiet, the film might serve as a reminder that they will eventually spring to
life again.

A.Gregory Peck. B.Harry Potter.
C.WesAnderson. D.Audrey Hepburn.
22.Which type does Roman Holiday belong to
A.Action movie. B.Romantic movie.

I grew up with a four-year gap between myself and my younger brother. It was a distance in age to keep us
close as we got older, but also an age gap to make sure we lived our own lives in completely different ways.
Having a younger brother while I was a girl was a lot of work, for there was a lot of fighting.
However, as we’ve got older, we’ve become closer, and I’ve learned several things in life from my younger
brother that I didn’t realize I needed before.
My younger brother is one of the most talented and creative souls I’ve known. He’s continually feeding his
creativity with new art forms and new instruments. He always seeks to understand and learn more about the world
around him. He’s helped remind me through his actions and words that giving up on creativity is something a
person should never do.
My younger brother has also been through hard times, but he’s able to focus on learning from the hard times,
unlike me, who tends to hold on to every little thing from my life. It’s always been difficult for me to let things go
and move on, but my younger brother has been an inspiration for me to try harder at letting go.
My younger brother has always been a more introverted type, and if you speak to him, you’re lucky to get
over three words out of him at a time. Because of this, he’s certainly learned the whole “actions speak louder than
words” thing. But, I’ve realized from my brother that I needn’t speak to fill the silence. Sometimes, it’s necessary
to spend some of your time in silence and reflect in it.
24.What can we know about the author’s childhood according to paragraph 1
A.The author thought the four-year gap made them distant.
B.The author had to do a lot of work for her brother.
C.There was a lot of fighting between the author and her brother.
D.The author often beat her brother.
25.What does the author’s brother pay most attention to
A.New art forms. B.Creativity. C.New instruments. D.Talents.
26.What is the difference between the author and her brother
A.The attitude to hard times. B.The ability of studying.
C.The aim of future. D.The way to spend time.
27.What can replace the underlined word in the last paragraph
A.Depressed. B.Attractive. C.Favorite. D.Quiet.
C
Finding yourself in an unfamiliar country is difficult enough, and not being able to read or speak the native
language can make the change greatly more difficult. Programs that teach English as a Second Language (ESL)
help non-English speaking students acclimate to life in the United States more smoothly.
The ESL Newcomers program at Palmer Elementary in Newport News, Virginia, serves children coming
from areas of South America, Afghanistan, Vietnam and other parts of Asia. When members of the Kiwanis Club
of Peninsula at Oyster Point-which has a long-standing relationship with the school-learned about the program in
2020, they were eager to help.
To date, the club has donated (捐赠) $1,600 to Palmer Elementary’s ESL Newcomers program. The money
has helped the school gain classroom resources (资源), plan virtual (虚拟的) field trips and bring guest speakers
into the classroom. Money has also been used to help with the buying of winter clothing, which some children
didn’t have when they arrived in the United States.
“In the ESL Newcomers program, the children are taught English, math, history and even some cultural
information about their new home,” explains Joseph Slabinski, club president. “The program will also help their
families, as students can enter into the programs while they are at home.”
The club also helps the children with gardening. This gives students another chance to learn and practice
English, make friends and feel more connected to their new home.
Over the years, the Kiwanians also have taken part in reading programs, bought dictionaries for young
students and helped LeapFrog learning stations. The ESL Newcomers program is another chance for members to
connect with students and improve education in a meaningful way.
“We have the ability to help these students with their learning and show them that America has people that
are concerned and willing to help others in need,” says Slabinski, “We will always be there to help the children of
Palmer Elementary.”
28.What does the underlined phrase “acclimate to” in paragraph 1 mean

Doing less sitting and more moving is tied to living longer, according to a new study.
Replacing 30 minutes per day of sedentary (久坐不动的) time with 30 minutes of physical activity at a light
intensity (强度 ) was associated with a 17% lower risk of early death in a study published in the American
Journal of Epidemiology on Monday.
The study also found that replacing 30 minutes of sedentary time with 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous
(剧烈的)exercise was associated with a 35% lower risk of early death. “If you replace 30 minutes of sitting time
with 30 minutes of light-intensity physical activity-so something just like a casual walk down the hall-that still
can lower your risk,”said Keith Diaz, a professor at Columbia University Medical Center in New York.“Obviously,
it doesn’t lower your risk as much as exercise, or as much as moderate to vigorous physical activity, but it still can
lower risk, and to us, that was somewhat of a new finding,” Keith Diaz said.“Any movement for any length of
time is going to give you health benefit, and this is really changing what we know about physical activity.”
The study included national data on 7,999 people aged 45 and older who wore activity monitors to track their
sedentary time between 2009 and 2013. The researchers used that data to analyze the benefits that could be caused
if sedentary time in the data was replaced with physical activity.
The researchers found that replacing sitting time with exercise and movement was associated with a benefit,
but replacing long periods of sitting with shorter periods of sitting was not. “In our previous work, we found that
if you take a break every 30 minutes, it will lower your risk from sitting,” Diaz said, and the new study also show
that in the data.“We went deeper into the data to try to understand why people who took a movement every 30
minutes had a lower risk of death. It’s because they just had more opportunity to move,” he said.
32.Which of the following helps reduce the risk of dying early by 17%
A.A 30 minutes’ light physical activity. B.Amoderate exercise for 30 minutes.
C.A vigorous workout for 35 minutes. D.A break every 30 minute-long sitting at work.
33.What’s Diaz’s opinion about movement
A.The longer the movement is,the better the result is.
B.A casual walk down the hall can benefit you most.
C.30 minutes of moderate exercise is the best choice.
D.Movements for any length of time are beneficial.
34.Why did the researchers do further research on the national data
A.To find out the necessity to take a break every 30 minutes.
B.To prove the benefit of doing a little bit of physical exercise.
C.To know why physical activity every 30 minutes is beneficial.
D.To understand the proper length of time for physical exercise.
35.What’s the best title for the text
A.Being Away from Sitting Too Long
B.Living Longer by Less Sitting and More Moving
C.The Relationship between Early Death and Exercising
D.The Significance of Different Levels of Moving

Everyone wants to be happy every day, but sometimes we come across some problems which make us feel
bad. There are a few ways that we can use to help ourselves to be happier every day.
Measure your progress not your distance to the goal.
When looking at your goals, remember to look at how far you have come towards achieving them.
36 you will always have a negative feeling. When you measure yourself against where you started,
you will be recognizing your achievements, and those deserve to be celebrated. 37 .
Expressing your appreciation for what you have is an important happiness strategy. It’s one that is worth
doing on a daily basis. If you’re having trouble thinking of things, you may be thinking too small. You need to
widen your view. You can think about nature: the trees, the sun and the sound of a running stream. You can also
think about people: family and friends with whom you are grateful to have a relationship. 38
Help other people.
There are many benefits that come from helping others, whether helping someone you know or volunteering
for a community. 39 Studies have shown that people who volunteer live longer. Volunteering is also a
great tool in the fight against depression because it’s easier to temporarily forget your problems when you turn
your attention to the needs of others. Besides, it’s an extremely pleasing activity.

B.You’ve probably heard this before.

Blake and Allison are twins. Every year, I gave them birthday presents. But they always felt unhappy about
not receiving something on their wish list.
I knew I had somewhat spoiled(宠坏 )them, but I had no idea it was this bad . I was in shock. How
self-centered and unappreciative could my children be
I was determined to do something.
I found a family living on a farm that badly needed help. There were four children in the family aged from
three to eight. I began to visit them every two months.
Soon, Allison and Blake’s birthday was drawing near. I decided to introduce them to the new friends. One
day, I woke the kids early and drove them to the farm.
When we arrived, I told my children to take two bags off the car, of which one was filled with food and the
other with many boxes full of presents my children would never be satisfied with.
We were welcomed inside with smiles and appreciation. Obviously, Alison and Blake were shocked by what
they saw. I could guess they had never expected people would live such a difficult life.
“Look! Presents for you. ”Allison was trying to make the kids happier.
With their parents’ permission(允许), the kids began to pick the boxes up, shake them, and guess what was
inside. They were so excited. Allison and Blake encouraged the kids to open the boxes. They did. And there were
shouts of surprise and joy: a model car, chocolate …then laughter. Then grateful hugs(拥抱 )and sincere
“thank-yous” .
At first Alison and Blake looked confused but soon joined the children. Before long, they were laughing, too,
proud that they brought happiness there.
On the way home, Alison and Blake were a little quiet. When it was time to go to bed that day, my kids
hugged me and said, “Thank you, Mum. ”

66.Learn to relax before an examination
Nowadays, as Senior One students, we have to face many examinations.
Many of us feel quite anxious before various examinations, not sleeping well in the night or feeling frightened and
blank in the mind just before the examinations, which has a negative impact on our health as well as our performance
during the examinations.
How to cope with the anxiety before an examination may vary from person to person. Generally, doing some light
exercise is a good way to relieve our anxiety, which can help us to relax both physically and mentally. In addition,
chatting with our good friends also works out well because a casual talk will help us move away from the examination
for a moment. Last but not least, thinking about some happy things in our life may also contribute to our relaxation
before an examination.
All in all, don’t let anxiety stand in your way. Take it easy and everything will be OK.
67.The next year, with their birthday nearing, I asked Alison and Blake what presents they wanted. Alison and Blake
exchanged a glance and said, “Mum, we want something special this time. ”They asked for my permission to shop the
presents themselves. Strange as it sounded, I nodded. So on that special day, we visited the supermarket together. To
my surprise, they chose items I had never expected:shoes, gloves, pens … I sensed something unusual. With
everything ready, Alison asked whether they could celebrate their birthday with our new friends together.
I agreed and offered to drive them to the farm. I reminded them to call their friends first. After that we headed for
our destination. The moment we arrived, the whole family rushed to meet us. My children got all the bags into the
house, opened them, and unfolded all the gifts. It was then that our friends learned all Alison and Blake brought were
gifts for them. Seeing the various gifts, they were moved to tears. I realized my children would never be selfish and
unappreciative again.
