They make vehicles to carry brave people into space to find out the secrets of the universe. They also really wish to discover other planets that are suitable enough to support life..Para. 1Reading for detailed informationSpace dream:Humans have always had a desire/curiosityfor space exploration.1.Find out the phrases or sentences showing human’s dream/curiosity/desire Reading for detailed informationPara. 21.Has human’s space dream been explored 2.What achievements have been made Why not draw a timeline Before the mid-20th century, most people felt travelling into space was an impossible dream. However, some scientists were determined to help humans realise their dream to explore space. After many experiments, they succeeded in making rockets that could escape Earth’s gravity. On 4 October 1957, the Sputnik 1 satellite was lunched by the USSR and successfully orbited around Earth. Afterwards, the USSR focused on sending people into space, and on 12 April 1961, Yuri Gagarin became the first person in the world to go into space. Over eight years later, on 20 July 1969, American astronaut Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon, famously saying, “That’s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind.” Following this, many more goals were achieved. For example, America’s NASA space agency launched Voyager 1 on 5 September 1977 to study deep space, and it still transmits data today. Before the mid-20th centuryOn 4 Oct. 1957On 12 Apr. 1961On 20 Jul. 1969On 5 Sep. 1977an impossible dreamThe Sputnik 1 satellite was launched by the USSR and successfully orbited around Earth.Yuri Gagarinbecame the first person in the world to go into space.Neil Armstrong became the first person to step onto the moon.Voyager 1 was launched to study deep space and transmits data today.a realitydeterminationpersistencecuriosityeffortambitionTravelling into space was an impossible dream. Is space exploration always successful and satisfying Para. 2achievements3.What contributes to the reality of seemingly impossible space dream Some great achievements made by Soviet and America inspace exploration from 1950s to 1970s.Space travel has always involved risk / danger / accidents, but exploration still continues.Although scientists try to make sure nothing goes wrong, accidents can still happen. All the astronauts on the USSR's Soyuz11 and America's Challenger died during their missions. These disasters made everyone sad and disappointed, but the desire to explore universe never died. This is because people believe in the importance of carrying on space exploration despite the huge risks. An example of this ongoing work is the International Space Station. It orbits Earth and has astronauts from different countries on board, providing a continuous human presence in space.Para. 31.Is space exploration always successful and satisfying What happened 2.In terms of the accident and death, did the desire to explore universe die Why Example In 1986, America’s Challenger and all the 7 astronaunts on board died. What has China done to explore space Para.4China has made great progress in space exploration in the early 21st century.China’s space programme started later than those of Russia and the US, but it has made great progress in a short time. China became the third country in the world to independently send humans into space in 2003, when Yang Liwei successfully orbited Earth in the Shenzhou 5 spacecraft. Then Shenzhou 6 and 7 completed a second manned orbit and the first Chinese spacewalk, followed by the vehicle Jade Rabbit being sent to the moon to study its surface. After that, China launched the Tiangong 2 space lab into space and Tianzhou1 to dock with it. This signalled one step further in China’s plan to establish a space station in the future. More recently, China has sent Chang’e 4 to explore the surface of the far side of the moon to make measurements and observations.1.What great progress has China made in space exploration in the early 21st century Jade Rabbit was sent to the moon to study its surface.Para. 4In 2003China became the third country to independently send humans into space.Yang Liwei orbited Earth in the Shenzhou 5 spacecraft.China launched Tiangong 2 space laband Tianzhou 1.Shenzhou 6 and 7 completed a second manned orbit and the first Chinese spacewalk.ThenAfter thatMore recentlyChang’e 4 was sent to explore the surface of the far side of the moon.follow byWhat’s the future of space exploration Is it bright or hopeless 2.Why was space exploration mianly carried out by USSR and the US in the 20th century but China in 21st cenury Para. 5Space exploration seems to have a bright future as manycountries are planning further missions. The future of space exploration remains bright. Europe, the US, and China all have plans to further study and explore planets like Mars and Jupiter. Despite the difficulties, scientists hope future discoveries will not only enable us to understand how the universe began, but also help us survive well into the future.Goal1.What is the author’s attitude of space exploration A.negative B.indifferent C.unclear D.positive2.What’s the goal of space exploration How does the writer support the main idea Giving many examplesQuotationMaking a comparison1. There is still much to learn about the Earth, and we are only at the very beginning of new technological breakthroughs involving information technology and AI. There are many scientific and technological frontiers all around us.Is space worth exploringRecently, students (in our class) had a discussion on whether space is worth exploring. On the one hand, some students think that space exploration is not worthwhile. They think space is too far away from us and our daily life. And space exploration will waste a lot of money, which can be used to solve the problems on Earth, such as starvation and pollution. On the other hand, some of students think that space exploration is worthwhile. As we all know, satellites have been used for communications as well as weather forecast, which makes our life more convenient.Besides,if resources are found on other planets,(the problem of energy shortages on Earth )can be solved. To explore the unknown world; To seek out new life and new civilization; To create new technologies which could have benefits for Earth; To gather knowledge of the universe; To solve the problem of energy shortages on EarthTo promote the development of high technology1.What is the importance of carrying on space exploration 2.Is it worthwhile for the astronauts to explore the space Why space is too far away from us and our daily life;space exploration will waste a lot of money;should focus on the problems on Earth, such as climate change, hunger problem and pollution.Critical Thinking“The universe is vast and exploration of it will never end, only through consistent innovation, can the Chinese nation work towards a brighter future.”宇宙是广阔的, 探索无止境, 只有不断创新, 中华民族才能走向更加美好的未来。HomeworkSearch online or in the library for information about China’s achievements exploring, especially the important technological breakthrough at mission.Organise the information onto a table like the one below.China’s Space MissionMissions Launch Time Launch Vehicles Astronauts Mission GoalsShenzhou1Shenzhou2Shenzhou3Shenzhou4Shenzhou5Shenzhou6Shenzhou7Tiangong1Shenzhou8Shenzhou9Shenzhou10Tiangong2Shenzhou11Tianzhou15.
