A beach cleanup is a volunteer activity to protect the environment. It brings people together to collect trash（垃圾） to make the beach a more pleasant and safer place. Many organizations work with local g over mm ents to do with the trash that is collected. My husband, Josh, and I go to as many beach cleanups as we can. We even wrote about how much we have enjoyed beach cleanups on our blog. Because it is one of our favorite things to do and has brought us lots of pleasure.
You might not think that picking up trash sounds like fun. But cleaning up a beach is very meaningful. It is a good way to help the environment, get exercise and meet new people. Some beaches are covered with so much trash that cleaning them up might seem impossible. But you can do a lot in just a few hours with a group of volunteers. By the time you finish, you will be encouraged by the results. You might have even made a few new friends!
My first time to join a beach cleanup was in Costa Rica. Our group walked 30 minutes along a path to a small beach called "Playa Basura". It means "trash beach" in Spanish. A lot of trash washes up on the beach there. The beach often looks like it is covered with colorful rocks.But the rocks are just small pieces of plastic. Most of the trash comes from other areas. It washes down rivers and into the sea. Then the currents 水流） carry the rubbish to Playa Basura.
Our group worked hard for about two hours and filled over [00 trash bags. The difference was amazing. But every year the rainy season brings more trash. So, it is lucky that there is a cleanup every year. Trash on beaches like Playa Basura won't end until people stop trash from geting into the sea But every beach cleanup helps.

Published in 1990, Oh, the Places You il Go! was the 45th and last book of Dr. Seuss. It came out before he died in 1991. Dr. Seuss first heard and used these words when he was at Dartmouth college.
The above piece of Dr. Seuss' writing is an example of why he is thought to be America’s most popular children's book writer. Over 53 years, he wrote and illustrated （给…加插图） all 45 of his books himself. His use of rhyme and rhythm （韵律） helped children develop their reading skills. Dr. Seuss’ writing style was inspired （激发） by the rhythm of a ship's engine. The poem that came out of that became his first book.
Theodor "Ted" Seuss Geisel was borr in 1904. Ted's father often took him to the zoo. Ted always took his drawing board with him and drew pictures of animals. And his mother encouraged him to draw on his bedroom walls.
When Ted studied at Dartmouth college, he began to draw cartoons for the college newspaper. He didn’t use his real name, instead, he used "Seuss". He attended graduate school （研究生院） at Oxford University for a year and then he decided to travel around Europe. When he returned, he drew cartoons for the Saturday Evening Post, using the name Dr. Theophrastus Seuss. Later, he changed it into Dr. Seuss.
Though his first children’s story was refused many times, a college friend, also children’s book editor （编辑）, liked it and published it. The rest is history!
