Mary led a fairly sheltered life and was quite shy. In every social occasion, her outgoing husband took the lead, striking up conversations with strangers. In October 2015, Mary and her husband retired and moved to the beautiful seaside city, Nanaimo, where Mary was looking forward to some quiet, creative activities. One day, they heard about an upcoming storytelling event near their neighborhood and decided to take part in it.
As the storytellers told stories on stage, the audience laughed, cried and sang. Like everyone else, Mary was also attracted by their performance. Somewhere in the middle of the storytelling, Mary suddenly had an exciting idea. She whispered to herself, "I love stories! I want to be a storyteller!"
Mary knew that storytelling requires getting up on a stage under bright lights and addressing strangers. Besides, storytelling requires self-confidence and memory. She thought, "I'm a shy person and public speaking is my greatest fear. I'm already sixty years old and my memory isn't that great. What if I get up there and forget my story Where am I going to get the talent, memory, and courage needed to become a storyteller " But she had never felt so alive before and she wanted to be a storyteller so much that she decided to challenge herself.
So when the storytellers finished their storytelling and said there would be storytelling training courses the next month, Mary registered and asked her husband to sign up as well. She needed his support, as she was too shy to stay with a roomful of strangers by herself.
The courses were given in a library near their neighborhood. It would train learners to tell stories fluently and confidently. Mary and her husband arrived early before the first course began. They found there were about thirty learners, including the young and the old. Mary was quite nervous, beginning regretting her decision.
Paragraph 1: When the course began, Mary found a young, smiling teacher came in.
Paragraph 2: After all the courses finished, Mary signed up to tell a story on stage.

Paragraph 1:
When the course began, Mary found a young, smiling teacher came in. Her name was Sarah(补充细节:先给老师编一个名字:Sarah), and her enthusiasm for storytelling was contagious(补充细节:老师讲故事很有感染力contagious). She greeted the learners warmly, making Mary feel a bit more at ease. As the class progressed, Sarah introduced various storytelling techniques and fun exercises(合理叙事:讲练结合是科学有效的教学方式). With Sarah's guidance, Mary gradually started to gain self-confidence(和原文概念互动:之前没有自信,经过老师指导逐步获得自信). She discovered that storytelling was not just about memorizing words but about conveying emotions and connecting with the audience(精彩之处:老师的指导让Mary明白了讲故事不完全是背稿子,更重要的是和听众情感沟通). As the weeks went by, Mary realized that her initial fears were fading away(叙事循序渐进:恐惧逐步减少). Sarah's encouragement gradually helped Mary to blossom, and she eagerly looked forward to each class(Mary 开始期待每一节课。这句话是为了和下一段开头句“After all the courses finished” 合理衔接).
Paragraph 2:
After all the courses finished, Mary signed up to tell a story on stage. Despite initial nerves(nerve 和原文nervous 互动), her dedication to practice paid off(付出得到回报是积极的考场写作价值观). Supported by her husband's encouragement(提及次要人物Mary的老公,遵循“不遗漏人物”的续写原则), she stepped onto the stage with newfound confidence. As she began to tell her story, her passion and emotion resonated with the audience, leaving them captivated and moved(延续续写第一段的叙事“讲故事重要的是和听众情感沟通”,自信的Mary的故事开始能够吸引听众). Becoming a storyteller not only conquered Mary's shyness but also enriched her life. She embraced opportunities to share her stories, connecting with people from all walks of life. Through the power of storytelling, she discovered her voice and the unexpected joys of overcoming fears(恰当的主题升华:其实进行公众演讲的一部分目的为了克服演讲者内心恐惧).
