爱狗牵线搭情缘
(2022·全国甲卷完形改编)
【写作任务】
阅读下面的材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
You can tell a lot about a man by how he treats his dogs.
For many years, I enjoyed living in a tiny condo (公寓) with enough rooms for only me and my dogs, Tilly and Chance. Their companionship was nearly enough to keep my loneliness at bay. Nearly.
Last year, I started dating, but with reservations. My first date with Steve was in a bookstore-coffee shop in Boulder, Colo. He had arrived early and was camped at a corner table with a half-empty cup of black coffee and three newspapers. His beard was trimmed, his smile genuine. His age wasn't a problem but his status as a lifelong bachelor seemed like a red flag.
Then, I learned Steve had a dog, Molly, and a cat, Flora, both adopted from the same humane society where I had volunteered. While I was thrilled that he was an animal lover, I worried that three dogs were perhaps too many for one family, and that my dogs might attack Flora, the cat. A first date was surely too soon to be thinking about such things, but I was alert when it comes to worrying, sniffing out every potential problem. After an hour, Steve and I walked to a restaurant for lunch. We were actually enjoying each other's company so much. We agreed to have dinner that night, and then reluctantly parted.
Driving home, I felt greatly relieved for having met someone who shared my interests and seemed to like me. But I still had doubts in mind. Most of the men I had dated were looking for women who were Olympic-level skiers, or at the very least with slim, muscled bodies. Back then I was not a slim kind, my free time devoted to books and animals. I was used to seeing a date's disappointment upon first seeing me.

六成文——誊写清晰,字迹工整
One day, we walked our dogs together.__________
It seemed that his giving water to the dogs made us closer.__________
One possible version:
One day, we walked our dogs together. It was a short walk and I hadn't brought any water for them. However, I soon found the temperature rising quickly under the burning sun. We were soaked with sweat and the dogs were out of breath. I was concerned about my dogs but too embarrassed to speak up as it was just our second date. I was struggling when Steve suggested having a rest. Before I could utter a word, Steve got
down on one knee. He poured water from a bottle into his hand and offered it to my dogs. At the sight of this scene, my heart racing, I began to fall in love with him.
It seemed that his giving water to the dogs made us closer. What occurred next removed my doubts. Tilly had an operation on her leg. Just seeing the bandage on her leg made my chest tighten. It was then that Steve again offered to take care of her with me. With time going by, Steve and I made a good
team caring for Tilly. Gradually, the three dogs and the cat got along well, forming a harmonious pack. When Tilly finally recovered, much to my delight, Steve produced a little box with a ring and proposed to me. The man who treated both his dog and my dogs with love turned out to be the best companion in my life.
