1.What’s the date
这是一个询问日期的句型。回答日期时,表示在某一天,用介词on,表示不含某一天的年、月以及季节用介词in。
e.g.—What’s the date today 今天是几号
—It’s May the first.今天是五月一号。
【拓展】　询问日期的表达法,通常要用序数词来回答。表达顺序:月份+日期+年份。2008年4月2日 应表达为:April 2,2008 或者April 2nd,2008,读作:April(the)second two thousand and eight。

◆have a basketball game意为“举行一场篮球比赛”。
“have+表示某种活动的名词”意为“进行;举行”,如:have a class上课;
have a sports meeting开运动会;have a party开晚会。
e.g.They often have basketball games on the playground.
他们经常在操场上举行篮球比赛。

◆against意为“反对”,和for是反义词。
play against意为“和……对抗”。
e.g.We will have a football game against
Class 3.我们要和三班举行足球比赛。
e.g.They will play against the Japanese team.
他们要和日本队比赛。
【拓展】　against表示位置,意为“靠着,顶着,迎着,衬着”等。
e.g.The old man is standing against the tree.
这位老人靠着树站着。

3.January is the first month of a new year.
first意为“第一”,属于序数词,它相应的基数词是one。
表示顺序的数词称为序数词。序数词前一般需加“the”。
(1)“基数词”变“序数词”的口诀:
基变序,有规律,
一、二、三特殊记,first,second,third,
从四开始加th,八去t,九去e加th,
五、十二变ve为f加th,
整十后变y为ie加th,若想表示几十几,
只变个位就可以。
(2)表顺序时,基数词和序数词间可互相转换。

—What’s the date today 今天几号？
What’s the date 是用来询问日期时的常用语，回答时用“It’s +日期”或直接回答日期。
日期一般采用“月、日、年”的表达顺序，书写时“日”可以写成基数词或序数词，读时通常只按序数词来读；“年”用基数词表示，读时一般是两位一读。
