教材分析 The freshman challenge is Adam’s self-description, in which he describes the challenges he meets in his first week at senior high school. He keeps positive and tries to find ways to solve them. The author’s purpose is to share his experience so that others can learn from him. 核心素养 To based on the topic of the freshman challenge and let Ss. get familiar with it and finish the related tasks, during which the teacher should pay more attention to leading Ss. to analyze the context, learn the logic of the passage and the language using.
学情分析 Ss. are quite familiar with this topic because they are in the same stage, during which they may suffer some similar challenges. Therefore, they will be quite understanding about Adam’s experience. As for the passage, it is somewhat difficult for them to understand without proper reading instructions.
教学目标 Knowledge aims:1. Let Ss. get familiar with the freshman challenge and understand the passage;2. Make Ss. identify and remember the words and phrases related to the freshman challenge.Ability aim:Make Ss. apply reading strategies of skimming and summarizing.Affection aim:Encourage Ss. to learn the good personality of Adam Arouse Ss’. awareness to build up the ability of solving some problems arose in the school life and keep a positive attitude towards the future.
教学重点 To get Ss. To use the reading strategies, new words and phrases to understand the main idea of the text, summarize Adam’s challenges, feelings and solutions, and form structural knowledge. 教学难点 Compare teenage challenges in China and America and find out the solutions to them in senior high school.

Eg. interesting, exciting, surprising, easy, wonderful, challenging, hard, boring...(2) Do you have a foreign friend at your same age, what is her/his school like like Watch a small video and get the differences of the senior school life between China and America.【Purpose: Lead Ss. to get into the topic of senior high school life and feel the differences of two life styles in China and America.】Step3 Reading (20 minutes)Part1 Pre-reading (2minutes)PredictingLook at the picture and the title of the passage, can you predict the main idea of the text And what kind of person is Adam (active, friendly, warmhearted, happy, handsome…)【Purpose: To cultivate Ss’ ability of predicting and guessing so that they can have a first judge about what is the passage going to present.】Part2 While-reading Task1 Reading for structure ( skimming) (8minutes)Finish the multiple choice by using the reading skill: Skimming 1.
