B. Card game (Our hobbies)
Aim:
To reinforce the correct use of ‘How long has / have … ’ and ‘since’ and ‘for’
Description of the game:
Pupils look at the picture cards and word cards and ask and answer questions using the structure ‘How long has / have … ’ and ‘since’ and ‘for’.
You will need:
Enough copies of the picture cards (activities and names) and word cards (year / time period) for each group of 3–4 pupils in the class
Steps:
1. Revise the vocabulary in LWTE 6A Chapter 2 with pupils before the game.
2. Divide the class into small groups (3–4 pupils in a group). Give each group a set of picture cards and word cards.
3. Ask pupils to place the cards in two piles, face down on the desk.
4. Each group should start the game by having a pupil (Pupil A) take a picture card and ask a question using the picture and the word hints on the card and the structure ‘How long has / have … ’, e.g. ‘How long have you collected coins ’.
5. Another pupil in the group (Pupil B) should then take a word card and answer Pupil A’s question using the words on the word card, e.g. ‘I have collected coins for 6 months.’ or ‘I have collected coins since 2014.’.
6. Pupil B can keep the cards if he / she can give a correct answer. Then he / she takes a picture card and asks another pupil (Pupil C) a question and so on.
7. Continue the game until there are no cards left. The pupil with the most cards at the end of the game wins.
