Teaching Procedure:
Warm-up (5 minutes)
Begin the lesson by asking students about their experiences with meeting new people. Encourage them to share their thoughts and feelings about it.
Introduce the topic of the lesson by saying, "In life, we often have to meet new people, whether it's at school, work, or social events. Today, we're going to talk about how to get to know new people in a polite and friendly manner."
Key Vocabulary and Phrases (10 minutes)
Display the PowerPoint presentation with key vocabulary and phrases related to getting to know new people. Examples include: introduce yourself, ask questions, make introductions, be friendly, etc.
Discuss each word or phrase with the class, providing definitions and examples of how to use them in context.
While-listening (15minutes)
open textbook and follow the prompts to complete activity 1
Listen to paragraph 1 and complete the table in Activity 2. Then check the answers
Listen to paragraph 2 and complete the table in Activity 3. Listen to the material again. Complete the questions in Activity 4 and choose the best answer
After-listening (10 minutes)
Divide the class into small groups of 3-4 students each.
Give each group a handout with some common scenarios related to meeting new people, such as starting a new job or attending a party.
Ask each group to discuss the scenarios and come up with different ways they would introduce themselves and start a conversation with someone new in each scenario.
Have each group present their ideas to the class, either through a verbal presentation or a short skit.
Encourage the class to provide feedback and suggestions for improvement.
Consolidation (5 minutes)
Review the key vocabulary and phrases learned during the lesson. Ask students to share one word or phrase from the lesson that they found particularly useful or interesting.
Recap the main points of the lesson, emphasizing the importance of being polite, friendly, and respectful when meeting new people.
Homework
Assign students to write a short paragraph in English about a time when they met someone new and how they introduced themselves. They should include at least one key vocabulary or phrase learned during the lesson in their writing.
Encourage students to proofread their work before submitting it for grading.
