Step 1: Lead in(Review)
Review the names (boy’s names & girl’s names) in Starter Units & introduce several new friends to Ss and teach them how to pronounce their names to prepare for the listening.
Review how to greet people(Good morning/afternoon/evening)
Intention: To make a relation between the new Unit and Starter Units and to arouse students’ prior knowledge.
Step 2: Pre-listening
Work on 1a. Write English words for the things in the picture.
Free talk: How do you introduce yourself and greet others when you are in this situation
Intention: To have a basic understanding of the picture in 1a and list the words to review the words in Stater Unit 2. increase their vocabulary and set the scene by the picture in 1a.
Step 3: While-listening
Work on 1b. Listen and number the conversation.
1st listening: number the conversations
2nd listening: get the details in the conversations (How to greet others)

3rd listening: read after the tape
Intention: Listen for three times to help Ss recognize the target language in natural speech. And to let Ss know how to listen for specific information.
Step 4: Post-listening
Ss practice the conversations(1c) and greet their classmates, and they can use the sentence structures below.

Intention: To help Ss use the target language in natural speech.
Step 5: Practice
Work on 2a: Listen to the conversations and number the pictures.
Work on 2b: Listen again. Circle the names you hear(Alice, Eric, Jack, Mary and Ms. Miller).
Work on 2c: Practice the conversations in pairs.
Intention: To help Ss focus on words and expressions used in greetings and introductions.
