Activity 1 A little guessing game
T: Today we are going to explore a mysterious country. It’s a country with the world’s longest mountain range, largest rainforest, oldest settlements, and great ancient civilisation. It’s a country with coast, highlands and jungles. You can trek through hot humid jungles one day and cold arid glaciers the next day. Can you guess what this country is

Watch a video about this country and answer the following questions.
1. What did you see in the video
2. What impresses you most in the video
After watching the video, ask the student “If you want to know more about the country, where can we find more information about it ”

Step 2 Read for text types
Activity 1 Look at the map and glance through the short text on the left of it, can you recognize the text type of it
We can see the text is a brief introductory to the country Peru. It has simple language, brief content and objective description with a map. This kind of text usually comes from an
encyclopedia. An encyclopedia is book containing detailed facts about one or many subjects. Activity 2 Look at the title “Travel Peru”, the subtitles of each passage and the pictures, and pay special attention to the last three lines below, can you recognize the text type of it
It’s a travel brochure. A travel brochure is a thin book giving information about some tourist attractions and trying to persuade the readers to travel there.

Work in groups of 4 and design a travel brochure for the three potential visitors to China based on their reasons for visiting China.

2. Underline the phrases that you think are important.
3. Finish Activity 3 on Page 27.
