E-sports could feature in Brisbane Olympics
语篇导读:随着现代体育的发展,奥运会正在发生变化。继滑板、攀岩等项目在东京奥运会上亮相后,电子竞技很有可能成为布里斯班奥运会上的新项目。
The booming popularity of competitive video gaming is threatening to kill the chances of other Australian favourite sports being included in the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.
The host nation is allowed to recommend some new sports for inclusion in the Games programme — even if only as a one-off. There are strict rules, of course, and only one or possibly two sports will be lucky enough to get the final nod, so the competition is intense. For Australia's long-time favourite sports — such as cricket, netball, Aussie rules and rugby league — Brisbane 2032 is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a part of the biggest event in world sport.
But Olympic organisers have dropped a strong hint (暗示) that an unexpected rival (竞争对手) — video gaming — is building an irresistible case for immediate inclusion. It is now only a matter of time before virtual gaming, also known as e-sports, is played at the Olympics and that time could well be Brisbane 2032.
Traditionalists might shake their heads in disbelief and wonder if the world has gone crazy, but the case for e-sports getting an invite to the Olympics is convincing. It already has hundreds of millions of players around the world, with the best earning a fortune in organised online competitions. It's a multi-billion dollar industry that's only getting bigger. The key reason is that it fits perfectly with the International Olympic Committee's attempts to modernise its programme after already adding sports such as BMX racing, skateboarding and climbing.
“What we are looking for is sports which are well appreciated by the younger generation,” said the chair of the Coordination Commission (协调委员会) for Brisbane 2032, Kirsty Coventry. “As you've already seen with Tokyo and previous Games, it's really about getting them excited about the Olympic dream.” Ms Coventry's message could not be any clearer, but with a decade to go, she emphasised that it was still too early to decide which sports would be on the programme for Brisbane.

Exercise Can Be Smart
健身设施走起了智能范儿。
Fitness facilities (健身设施) in parks and gyms across China are getting smart. This helps people enjoy exercising more.
Honggutan District in Nanchang, east China’s Jiangxi Province, recently opened its first smart running track (跑道) in a park. Many sports lovers go running there. The 800-meter-long track can record runners’ speed, steps and running distance. The track also has smart screens, facial recognition equipment (人脸识别设备), and so on. These smart facilities make running more interesting.
Similarly, smart facilities in gyms and sports centers in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, allow sports lovers to make reservations (预约) on WeChat and enter gyms and sports centers using facial recognition equipment. It helps save time for people.
Also, some smart fitness facilities can collect information about users’ exercises, and let them know if they have some wrong exercise habits. The facilities also offer advice on how to make improvements so that the users can exercise in a healthier way.
The future looks promising (有希望的) for the smart fitness industry. According to a report in 2021, there is a high need for smart fitness facilities, and people are willing to pay for them. The report also shows that of all the people in the survey, 89 percent believe that smart fitness facilities are necessary, and nearly one-third of them have already spent money on those facilities.
China will build a larger number of sports centers and parks with smart fitness equipment. We are sure to have more enjoyable and healthier exercise experiences in the near future.

Should you take up extreme sports
语篇导读:极限运动因其带给人的刺激与挑战受到不少人的青睐,也因为如此,引发了诸多的担忧。
Sometimes, we all want a little more fun and excitement in our lives. If you’ve found yourself feeling this way, then perhaps you’ ve considered taking up extreme sports. There are a lot of advantages and disadvantages of choosing an extreme sport.
Great exercise
Getting up and active is a great way to get exercise and have fun at the same time. Many extreme sports push our bodies to the limit. This means that regularly enjoying extreme sports could build up your fitness.
Risking injuries
There is a risk of injury and extreme sports injuries are often worse than others. Thankfully, many sports have come a long way in the last few years, and many advancements (进步) in safety mean that people are safer than ever.
Building new friendships
Extreme sports aren’ t as popular as many other traditional sports in the world, such as running or cycling. This means that many extreme sports bring people together in more ways than others. It won’t be long before you meet new people. To top it all, being a part of a team taking part in an extreme sport can build stronger relationships than other teams.
Access (机会) troubles
While you might want to take part in extreme sports, you might not always have access to them. They typically require pretty extreme settings, and some of us might have to travel far and wide to find them. It might not be long before a weekend of sports becomes pretty expensive. Plus, some areas have banned extreme sports in public areas. This means you could have to travel even further to try one of the sports.
The cost of equipment
Many sports aren’t cheap, and extreme sports are no exception. From the safety equipment to the training and everything in between, there are often plenty of things to buy to take part in each sport. Plus, as the equipment continues to develop or you wear it out, you could find yourself having to invest (投资) in new equipment every few months.

Sportsmanship
If you’re into sports, you’ve seen it happen: Football players shake hands after the game is over;tennis players leap over the net to shake hands with their opponents (对手) after a hard-fought match... It’s all part of sportsmanship, a great tradition in sports and competition.
What is sportsmanship
Sportsmanship is defined (阐释) as:
★ playing fair
★ following the rules of the game
★ respecting the judgment of referees (裁判员) and officials
★ treating opponents with respect
Some people define good sportsmanship as the “golden rule” of sports — in other words, treating the people you play with and against as you’d like to be treated yourself. You demonstrate (示范) good sportsmanship when you show respect for yourself, your teammates, and your opponents, for the coaches on both sides, and for the referees, judges, and other officials.
Sportsmanship is a style and an attitude (态度), and it can have a good influence on everyone around you.
Practicing good sportsmanship
So what does it take to demonstrate good sportsmanship in real-life situations Here are some examples of things you can do:
★ Learn as much as you can about your sport. Play by its rules. Show up for practice, work hard, and realize that on a team, everyone deserves (值得) a chance to play.
★ Talk and act politely toward everyone before, during, and after games and events. That includes your teammates, your opponents, your coaches and their coaches, and even spectators (观众).
★ Stay cool. Even if others are losing their tempers (脾气), it doesn’t mean you have to. Remind yourself that no matter how hard you’ve practiced and played, it is, after all, just a game.
★ Never use violence (暴力). If you’re in a difficult situation or someone’s threatening (威胁) you, ask for help immediately from your coach or from an official.
★ Remember that referees may not be right every time — but they’re people who are doing their best, just as you are.
