Write a Summary of a News Report
I. Teaching Objectives

IV. Teaching Process
1. Warm-up (5 minutes)

2. Introduction (10 minutes)
- Introduce the topic of summarizing news reports and explain its importance in today's world, where there is an abundance of information available.
- Provide examples of well-written summaries to demonstrate what is expected from students' work.
3. Guided Practice (25 minutes)
- Divide students into small groups and give each group a news report to read and summarize.
- Assign roles to students in their groups, such as taking notes, identifying main ideas, and generating sentences for the summary.
- Walk around the classroom to provide guidance and answer questions as needed.
4. Independent Practice (15 minutes)
- Have students work individually to summarize another news report, using the techniques and strategies taught in the guided practice session.
- Encourage students to use their notes and classmates' suggestions when writing their summaries.
5. Group Sharing (10 minutes)
- Have each group share their summaries with the class, explaining their main ideas and key points.
- Encourage feedback from other students and discussion of different approaches taken by different groups.
6. Conclusion (5 minutes)
- Review the main points of the lesson and emphasize the importance of being able to summarize news reports accurately and effectively.
- Assign homework for students to continue practicing their summarizing skills by summarizing at least three more news reports by tomorrow.
