What’s behind the famous British humor
Every country shares things in common: we value family and laughter, cherish food and health, and celebrate large festivals and traditions. Yet within the similar things we share, there are unique parts of each country. One characteristic that is famous of British people is their sense of humor, particularly self-mockery.
This is a type of humor that criticizes and undervalues oneself. For example, a fat person may joke: “I’m on a new sea food diet. If I see food, I eat it.” This is a well-known self-mockery joke. Famous British writer Oscar Wilde once said: “I am so clever that sometimes I don’t understand a word that I am saying.”
It’s difficult to say why self-mockery is tied to the British people. But every nation’s sense of humor comes from its culture and history. It could come from another British characteristic, modesty, meaning to not highlight or talk openly about your skills. This seems to be something that is similar with the Chinese people, where modesty plays a big part in daily life.
It also acts as a defense of our self-esteem by playing down our skills. This can lessen the chances of people criticizing us.
Another possible reason is that on average, the British people don’t take themselves too seriously. So mocking themselves is simply a healthy result of this.

Anger is a kind of feeling. Many things can make you angry. When your teacher gives you too much homework, when a friend borrow your favorite thing and then breaks it, when your team loses an important game, you may get really angry.
Usually, your body will tell you when you are angry. For example, you breathe (呼吸) faster, your face turns red, and you may want to break something or hit (打) someone, but sometimes you hide your anger. For example, you are really angry, but you may keep it to yourself. The worst thing is to do nothing but keep quiet. The problem is that if you do this, you may get a headache or your stomach may get hurt.
In fact, it’s normal for you to get angry sometimes. But anger must be let out in the right way. When you get angry, you can talk about it with other people and share your problems with them, such as your parents, a teacher, etc.
If you talk about anger, those bad feelings can start to go away. So you are halfway to solving a problem just by talking to someone about it. Here are some other things you can do when you start to feel angry: talk to a good friend; count from 1 to 100; give someone a hug (拥抱); think about good things, etc.

Could you imagine being in a car driven by a computer, not a human Recently, China has made a big step toward self-driving technology. Since August, driverless taxis can run on roads in Wuhan, Chongqing and Shenzhen.
Why do we develop self-driving cars
Self-driving cars give us many benefits (好处). They use computers to sense (感知) the things around them and make better use of space. This means fewer traffic jams (堵塞) and better parking of cars. For disabled (残疾的) or blind people, self-driving cars can also help them get around more easily.
According to US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year, more than 1.35 million people are killed on roads around the world. Many more are injured (受伤). Self-driving cars could reduce (减少) road accidents by 90 percent and save governments a lot of money, said the website TechDim. The main cause of car accidents is human error (错误). By using computers, self-driving cars don’t make poor decisions or lose focus (注意力) like humans do.
But self-driving cars aren’t perfect. If something unexpected on the road happens, self-driving cars can’t react (反应) as fast as a human driver could. Also, during weather events like heavy snow, self-driving cars would struggle (费力) to see the lines on the road. It might lead to an accident. The car’s computer system could also get hacked (非法入侵) by someone, causing it to crash or change its destination (目的地).
It’s clear that there is a lot of work to do to make self-driving cars a common and safe sight (景象) on our roads. And China is taking the lead in making this happen, said China Daily.
