教 学 主 题 该板块的教学主题是“描述卓有成就的人物”（Describe people of achievement）。学生通过阅读屠呦呦获诺贝尔奖的专题新闻报道，了解屠呦呦及其团队发现并提炼出青蒿素来治疗疟疾的主要过程。学生阅读语篇，归纳屠呦呦及其团队获得成功的原因，概括介绍屠呦呦发现青蒿素并成功治疗疟疾的过程。在此过程中，学生可以感受到屠呦呦及其团队的艰辛和伟大，了解传统中医药对人类健康和世界发展的突出贡献和价值，进而反思自我，为成为“有价值之人”做好未来职业和人生的规划。

教 学 内 容 与 过 程 Lead-in 1.根据诗句“呦呦鹿鸣，食野之蒿”猜屠呦呦名字的来历，引出主人公 2.Free talk讨论屠呦呦的经历和成就，补充主题词汇。 Step 1 Pre-reading Activity 1： Look at the layout and predict. Predict and read （1）学生看教材第二页上的两幅图片和语篇标题，然后判断语篇类型与出处，并预测语篇的内容。教师可提问： Look at the title and the pictures on page 2. Where would you most likely read this passage What do you think will be talked about 教学提示：教师需引导学生注意标题下方的日期，该日期有助于判断语篇来源。同时，提醒学生注意本页右下角是一株青蒿（sweet wormwood）的图片。这样，学生可以利用标题和图片预测语篇大意：“Tu Youyou was awarded the Nobel Prize for the discovery of artemisinin, a substance extracted from sweet wormwood.”。 （2）学生先阅读并理解方框中的阅读策略，再通过头脑风暴的活动预测可能出现的描述性词汇。然后寻读语篇，找出描述主人公的词语（committed、patient），验证预测。 教学提示：从词性来看，描述性词汇主要有形容词、副词、动名词等。使用描述性词汇有利于作者调动读者的感情。描述性词汇也叫“生动词汇”（vivid words），可以让描述更生动、更准确。 Step 2 While-reading Activity 2：Fast reading （1）学生快速阅读全文，验证对语篇来源的预测，完成活动3中的第一题和第二题。教师可以进一步提问： Why is passive voice often used in a news report (To be more objective.) Why does it contain more facts than personal opinions (To be more objective and more convincing.) （2）学生完成活动3中的第三题，梳理语篇结构。然后教师可提示： Go through the whole text. First, see which of the predicted contents are mentioned in the text. Second, try to work out the structure of the text. Read the text quickly and match the main idea with each paragraph. Activity 3：Detailed reading （1）学生再次阅读第一段和第四段，回答以下问题： What is the event How is it described （第二问聚焦语篇的语言，包括名词出现的先后顺序、语态、非限制性定语从句等。） What is the significance of the discovery of artemisinin 教学提示：教师引导学生分析第一段首句的叙述逻辑：从奖项到人物，再到原因。原因放在最后可以更好地衔接第二句，即发现青蒿素的意义。对这一点的探讨，教师可以引导学生关注首尾两段：首段引用数据作支撑说明青蒿素能有效治疗疟疾，这是屠呦呦获得诺贝尔奖最直接、最重要的原因。尾段从获奖者的角度讲述发现青蒿素对向世界传播传统中医药和中国科学研究的积极影响。 学生再次阅读语篇第二段和第三段，分析屠呦呦的具体经历。 提取有关屠呦呦团队研究过程的信息来完成下面表格。然后，学生根据记忆填写活动5中的流程图并复述这一过程。 教学提示：因为屠呦呦的生平经历与她后面的科学研究息息相关，所以学生复述时需要从屠呦呦本人说起。由于科学实验的各个阶段涉及一些专业词汇，学生复述时可能会有困难，但仍应尽可能地先用自己的语言去表达，再对照教材改进表达，加深对语篇的语言表达的理解。 （3）学生回答活动4中的第三个问题，列举语篇中的数据及其对应的内容。 教学提示：数据在论证时能给读者直观的感受，对论点有重要的支持作用。教师引导学生分析数据，有利于学生从中体会研究的艰辛，为后面提炼屠呦呦的优秀品质做好铺垫。 （4）学生梳理完语篇结构后，聚焦committed和patient这两个统领第二段和第三段的描述性形容词，说说体现屠呦呦这两个品质的信息，并填写以下表格。 What we learn from Paragraphs 2 and 3 about Tu YouyouQualitycommittedpatientFactOpinion
然后教师可以进一步提问： What’s the writer’s attitude towards Tu Youyou 教学提示：学生通过表格整理有关主人公品质的信息，体会在专题新闻报道中如何运用事实（fact）和观点（opinion）来描述人物。 Step 3 Post-reading Activity 4：Discussing and Thinking （1）学生分组讨论下面两个问题，可以用文中内容作论据，也可以在此基础上根据已有认知列举其他论据。 As to the discovery of artemisinin, which do you believe is more important, talent or effort Or something else What are some important factors for being a person of achievement Is Tu Youyou more a person of success or more a person of value （2）每组派一名代表陈述观点，或在全班展开辩论。 教学提示：步骤一中的两个问题综合了读前和读中活动的内容，学生可以在讨论中体会如何有理有据地陈述自己的观点。教师可以提前梳理语篇中的核心词汇，引导学生在陈述中使用。学生在陈述观点时，教师也需适时引导学生树立正确的人生观和价值观。 Activity 5 Interviewing Imagine that your partner is Tu Youyou, who is currently at the Nobel Prize presentation.
