Your school might be holding foreign languages classes, so this is a great way to start your language learning journey! If you want more self-paced learning, apps like Duolingo are easily accessible (可使用的) on our mobile phones. As our world becomes more interconnected, it’s always good to learn another language or two.
Aim for a semester (学期) of straight A
This can be a difficult task but not impossible to achieve, as long as you put in the right amount of work and effort. If you are struggling(挣扎)with your grades, you can host or join group studies with your classmates!
Don’t be disheartened if you are not able to get an A in a semester. What’s important is having the drive to go forward. As a famous person once said, “He who would climb a ladder must begin at the bottom.
Experience another culture
Culture and tradition are something that all humans share. No matter where we come from, we always bring our culture with us. People coming from different cultures may be among your friends or neighbors.

Bring a shareable treat to class
If you know your way around the kitchen, you can impress your class by making and bringing them a delicious treat! Not only will this make their stomachs happy, but you’ll also bond (联系) the whole class together. Just don’t forget to check with your teacher first before bringing one.

I like to sit quietly near the hummingbird (蜂鸟) feeder and take pictures of the birds. One day, I watched them as they left the feeder to see where they would go.
Following the birds wasn’t easy since hummingbirds move so quickly, but I saw that each one usually headed in the same direction. I headed after them and discovered that they were going to perch (栖息) on small branches . One male hummingbird (which I’d like to call Buzz) would sit on the same perch almost every time he left the feeder. Wanting to understand what Buzz was doing, I slowly walked closer to his perch.
I moved just a few feet at a time and waited several minutes before stepping closer. Soon I was close enough to take good pictures, and I began to watch what he did.
Buzz usually sat where he could see the feeder. Anytime he saw another hummingbird coming to feed, he left the perch and chased (赶) the other bird away. Buzz didn’t want to share with anybody!
The bird seemed to prefer different perches for different times of the day. In the mornings and evenings, he sat close to the feeder. In the middle of the day, he sat farther away and even disappeared for short periods at noon. During these times, other hummingbirds flew in to feed without being chased away.
When Buzz was near the feeder, he always perched at exactly the same place. I set up more branches so he could sit even closer to the feeder. He had always chosen dead branches with no leaves on them, so that’s what I used to get him closer. It worked!
Now every morning and every evening Buzz sits within two or three feet of his feeder and guards his food. I fill the feeder, and he almost seems to pose for the camera!
24. What did the author find when he watched hummingbirds one day
A. Hummingbirds liked to perch close together.
B. Hummingbirds often perched on lower branches.
C. Hummingbirds chose small branches as their perches.
D. Hummingbirds usually perched on the same branches.
25. What can we learn about Buzz

C. He is happy to pose for photographs.
D. He is always ready to guard his food.
26. What does the underlined part “these times” in paragraph 5 refer to
A. Short periods at noon. B. Short periods at night.
C. The early mornings. D. The late evenings.
27. How did the author make Buzz sit closer to the feeder
A. By filling the feeder every day.
B. By placing a camera near the feeder.
C. By setting up leaves around the feeder.
D. By putting dead branches near the feeder.

Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student. So at the start of my freshman year, I had an aversion to math. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do well, but simply that I didn’t think I was able to do well.“I can’t”became my state of mind in all things related (有关的) to math.
However, I was soon to learn that “I can’t” was not a choice in Mr. A’s class.
Mr. A always greeted (迎接) us with open arms as he said,“Welcome! Smile! It’s a great day to be alive!”It was clear that Mr. A had a true passion (热情) not only for math but for teaching. If Mr. A ever experienced bad days in life, he never showed it. Mr. A greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the “I can’t” student.
I found myself looking forward to math class, although I still hated the subject itself. Being in Mr. A’s presence made me feel good, as if I had the chance to succeed. As the year progressed, I spent increasingly more time on my homework, and I met with Mr. A weekly. My classmates began to do the same, and it became“cool”to have lunch and talk with Mr. A. We didn’t know it at the time, but he was changing our attitudes (态度).
Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn’t become a straight-A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly began to climb. There were hard times, of course. Difficult math questions sometimes succeeded in bringing me down, but Mr. A kept reminding (提醒) me,“Kate, smile! It’s a great day to be alive!”
28. What does the underlined word “aversion” in paragraph 1 probably mean
A. Interest. B. Responsibility. C. Dislike. D. Misunderstanding.
29. What first made the author look forward to math class
A. Mr. A’s attitude. B. Her interest in math.
C. Her friends’ encouragement. D. The top achievers in her class.
30. How did the author feel about her talk over lunch with Mr. A
A. It was straight. B. It was awkward.
C. It was challenging. D. It was impressive.
31. How did the author change in math
A. She made slow progress.
B. She fell in love with math.
C. She became a straight-A math student.
D. She became comfortable with difficult math questions.
D
Teenagers who spend more time on after-school activities and less than two hours of screen time after school are more mentally (心理上) healthy, according to a study published in the journal Preventive Medicine. The new study was carried out by researchers from the University of British Columbia.
The study used information collected from more than 28,000 seventh-grade Canadian students between 2014 and 2018. The students first answered questions about their usage of screen time after school, including how much time they spent watching TV, Netflix or something else. Then, students reported how many days they had taken part in after-school activities such as sports or arts programmes. After that, researchers asked students to describe their state of mind. For example, when given a statement such as “I start most days thinking that I will have a good day”, they could choose to what level they agreed with it on a scale (等级).
Some of the results were expected, researchers said in the study. Students with no after-school activities usually had high levels of screen time, for example. And they expected girls would score higher on negative indicators (消极指标) of mental health, as earlier research had found that they tended to have higher levels of anxiety (焦虑) compared to boys.
What was noteworthy, researchers say, is that even among students who took part in after-school activities, 46% still went beyond the recommended screen time of two hours. At the same time, 67% of students who didn’t take part in after-school activities also had more than two hours of screen time. Together, this suggests high screen time among teenagers generally.
“The findings suggest that after-school activities are valuable for the happy growing of teenagers,”the study said.“While past studies have proved the importance of after-school activities for social and academic ( 学业的) development, the present study shows their importance for good mental health results.”
32. Which of the following came last when students took part in the new study
A. Talking about their lifestyles.
B. Introducing their after-school activities.
C. Reporting their mental states on a scale.
D. Answering questions about screen time use.
33. What do the researchers find about teenage girls
A. They often have higher levels of satisfaction.
B. Few of them take part in after-school activities.
C. Anxiety has become a serious problem among them.
D. Too much screen time may be more harmful to them.
34. What does the author want to show by using the numbers in paragraph 4
A. Earlier findings about screen time are wrong.
B. High screen time is common among teenagers.
C. No after-school activities mean no screen time.
D. Screens attract teenagers more than after-school activities do.
35. Why are after-school activities so important according to the new study
A. They are good for teenagers’ physical health.
B. They help to improve teenagers’ mental health.
C. They encourage teenagers’ social development.
D. They allow teenagers to become better learners.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Being a teenager is difficult, as many people expect you to be perfect in many different things — school, sports, chores, etc. 36 What really matters is trying to be better, and having the confidence to pursue your dreams. The following are some tips for you to deal with the imperfection of life.
Make a series of goals to help reach your dreams. 37 You will not become the most popular kid at school, the best soccer player, or an award-winning filmmaker overnight, but you can start taking steps now to make these goals a reality.
38 Volunteering, tutoring a friend, and helping your parents around the house aren’t just nice things to do, and they can improve your own well-being. Doing good makes you feel good and it builds a loving, supportive network of people around you.
Give yourself some “me time” each day. Each day, take 15 minutes or more to yourself. 39 Distance yourself from other people, if only for a few moments, and relax. Let your brain free from all the stresses that hit you each day. This is one of the easiest, best ways to find yourself and your goals.
Remember that life isn’t perfect and that is a good thing. 40 But these issues are all chances to improve yourself, and how you react to the bad times is far more important than the bad times themselves.
A.Have an active social life.
B.Make time to help others.
C.Perfection only comes one small step at a time.
D.Exercise! It helps with stress, and may even make you happier than usual.
E.However, true perfection is impossible.
F.There will always be mistakes, setbacks, misunderstandings, and bad luck.
G.You could read, listen to music, go for a walk, or simply lay in bed.

C.How to keep food from going bad in summer.
答案】18.A 19.A 20.C
【原文】
During the summer you should be even more careful than usual because food goes bad faster in hot weather than in cold weather. When you buy frozen and refrigerated foods, don’t make long stops on your way home because frozen foods could become soft or warm. Using bags helps keep food cold until you can get home. Milk and milk products should be refrigerated immediately. When camping or picnicking or at any time when refrigeration can’t be made use of, use special dry foods. Don’t leave food in a hot car. Picnic favorites like meat, chicken and eggs should be kept in a cooler box. Above all, if the food doesn’t seem to be normal in smell or appearance, throw it away immediately. Don’t taste it.

In fact, in your high school, your classmates are also new students and facing the same problem, so you don’t have to worry too much about it. There is also something that you can do to change this situation. First, try to invite some of your classmates to take part in some activities together after school. This will help you understand each other better. Then, help your classmates when they are in trouble and turn to them for help when you have difficulty.
