What: 本课题从牛津译林版教材选择性必修第三册第四单元 Protecting our heritage sites 主题出发，依托年度重大新闻---三星堆再次开启挖掘工作,引领学生进一步认识到学习、传播和保护文化遗产的重要性。本课的阅读素材选自 China Daily，略有改动。新闻首先报导了考古学家在三星堆新一轮的挖掘工作中有了 500 多件文物的重大发现，紧接着对其中个别重大发现—黄金面具、尊、琮、神秘木盒分别进行了比较细致的描述， 最后引用陈显丹教授的话点明了三星堆一系列新发现的意义和价值。
How: 本文以新闻报导的方式，围绕三星堆的新一轮挖掘发现，报导了三星堆几个重大发现的特点和意义，素材真实、新鲜，富有时代感，语言简洁明了，篇章结构清晰，能有效传递信息。

Senior 2 students have accumulated adequate prior knowledge and strategies to process the information of the reading material and some basic knowledge about Chinese civilization.
The national treasures bearing rich cultural deposits can arouse students’ great interest.
The potential language barrier may discourage students from expressing themselves. During this period, students will be able to:
Language skills: employ prior knowledge and strategies to read and then get a general understanding of some Sanxingdui relics;
Thinking qualities: develop logic thinking and creative thinking by figuring out the framework of the text and assuming the identity of a spokesman;
Learning abilities: learn useful expressions and use them flexibly to describe national treasures from different angles, such as their origin, age, appearance and function;

7.教学反思 作为新教材 Further study 环节的一次尝试和优秀课程资源的自主开发，本节课设计灵感源于授课教师个人一个兴趣爱好，始于年度一场国宝挖掘，融于央视一档经典文化 节目，成于学校一群乐于传承的莘莘学子。
或许每个人都有过一个考古梦，深受悠久中华文化熏陶的我们，从不缺乏的就是对于国宝文物的兴趣，但有时也仅止于兴趣，我们或许缺乏的是一探究竟的勇气。本节课采用诙谐幽默的方式带领学生先放下对于高大上文物的敬畏心理，缓缓走入用英语说好国宝故事的课堂，给了学生一次另眼看待国宝的机会。虽然只是一次大胆的尝试，但学生在观赏国宝时眼里所闪现的光芒让我坚定地了自己对于课的构想，而学生也不负众望，在每个环节的表现基本都达到了预设的教学目标，甚至超乎我的想象。
这次尝试让学生初步地认识到了三星堆的不凡并深刻地感受到了中国文化的魅力， 甚至学会去反思自己作为中国人存在的很多意义。正如习总书记所强调的那样，“中国传统文化博大精深，学习和掌握其中的各种思想精华，对树立正确的世界观、人生观、价值观很有益处。”这样的文化需要我们去学习，去保护，去继承，去传扬。保护文化遗址不仅仅是考古工作者的事，也不仅仅只是去保护一个个遗址那么简单。本单元最终想要向学生传达的正是希望学生保护传承文化遗址中所孕育的祖先智慧，并认识到它们对于维系民族情感的重要意义。文物承载灿烂文明，传承历史文化，维系民族精神。在本单元结束之际，对学生进行爱国主义教育和主题拓展,文物有着无可代替的作用。
通过这节课，我最深的感触之一是：老师一定要相信学生，相信学生的实力，相信青春的热情，相信老师的爱心、细心、决心与学生的活力、能力、实力组合在一起，一定能成就一节课的美丽。第二大感触是：文化遗产真的承载了我们太多的情感，它们是历史，也是未来；是时光，也是记忆；是文明的源头，也是厚重的土地。关注他们，了解我们的文化，才能更好地认识我们自己的过去、现在和将来。让学生认知到这一点我们任重而道远。
Title:
Chinese archaeologists announced the discovery of over 500 cultural relics, during an ongoing excavation(挖掘) at the Sanxingdui Ruins Site in Guanghan, Sichuan province. The relics were uncovered in six sacrificial pits (祭祀坑) which date back over 3,200 years.
Among the important cultural finds are gold masks, ivory, textiles and jade( 玉 ), cong, decorative gold items, etc. These finds further tell us that these pits and items were used for sacrificial purposes as many of them had been broken and burned before being buried.
A gold mask has been uncovered at the No 5 sacrificial pit, the smallest pit that is about only three square meters. This 286-gram gold mask is the biggest gold mask ever discovered at the site.
In the No 3 pit, archaeologists found a square Zun, an ancient Chinese bronze container for holding water or wine as sacrifices. The item decorated with the dragon and ox patterns can indicate the superb technique that time.
In the No 4 pit, Cong--a kind of jade with a shape of square outside and round inside, was newly found. It was also commonly used in ancient sacrificial ceremonies.
In the No 6 pit, a 1.5-meter-long and 40-centimeter-wide wooden box covered in bright red color has brought a new mystery. A plan to open it is still under way.
“These discoveries show the Sanxingdui site had a close connection with Central China, but it also marks an original ancient civilization (in Sichuan) with strong creativity,” said Chen Xiandan, a member of the project who also took part in the 1986 excavation.
