Teaching procedures： Step 1 Preparation Check the students’ homework T asks Ss to look at some sentences and try to identify the different functions of to-infinitives . Yesterday I invited some friends to try a great new restaurant for dinner. We arrived at the restaurant, only to see a huge line of people waiting to get into the restaurant. Nothing can stop our determination to have a try. We decided to wait outside. The dishes are extremely delicious. It is worthwhile to have such a long wait. Step 2 Presentation Activity 1: Pair work Ask students to read the blog entry on page 6 and complete the blanks of part A on page 6. Activity 2: Discussion After reading the article, students discuss the following questions: 1. Why did the students like to eat at a restaurant in the past 2. What were the functions of the cooking app Step 3 Progress Working out the rules 1.Have students finish “working out the rules” on Page6. When the to-infinitive is used as a subject, we usually use the preparatory subject (1) it at the beginning of the sentence. The to-infinitive can also be used as a predicative. It usually comes after the verb (2) be . 2.Go through “Grammar note” from P94. Step 4 Practice 1.Identify what the to-infinitive functions as in the following sentences from the blog entry of part A. (1). To eat out was also a social activity, allowing me to enhance the relationship with my friends. (2). There are a variety of recipes in the app to choose from. (3). My plan is to invite my friends over at the weekend to show them my new found skills. .2.T asks Ss to finish B1 on page 7 of the textbook. Step 5 Summary Summarize the contents in this period and then ask the students to grasp the conclusions.
作业布置 1. Review what the students learned in this period. 2. Finish Exercise C on P58. .
