Section B (2a-2e)
本单元话题是“节日”（Festivals）。本节课是本单元的第五节课，是一节阅读课。通过本节课的学习，侧重训练学生对阅读的深层理解，即除了理解语言的表层含义外，还应当培养学生的推断能力，读懂作者在字里行间所表达的深层含义。从文化意识和情感价值观的角度来看，该部分的阅读语篇通过探讨圣诞节的含义，讲述吝啬鬼Scrooge的转变，目的在于向学生传达以下信息：关爱、同情及怜悯之心是人类社会的宝贵财富，人人应当将之继承及弘扬，以爱心回报社会。活动2a-2e通过阅读语篇加强语言输入量，发展学生的阅读技能，强化对本单元新语言内容的认知。
学完这一课，学生能够掌握：
1．词汇：Christmas、lie、novel、eve、dead、business、punish、warn、present、warmth、
spread、end up 的用法；
2．能力：能够在阅读有关“节日”这一话题的活动中，培养掌握文章大意和获取关键
信息的能力，并进一步掌握宾语从句的用法；
3．交际功能：能够熟练运用宾语从句向他人介绍西方的传统节日。

新课导入
首先，教师采用 Look and say 的活动形式，对学生提出“In China, what festival is the precious time for family to get together ”的问题，引导学生用英语说出这个节日的名称。然后教师紧接着抛出两个关于西方传统节日的问题，即：How about in western countries What do you know about Christmas 从而导入本节课的学习并为接下来的教学做铺垫。

教师要求学生课前预习新词，教师可抽出适当时间进行检测，确保学生掌握本节生词，为新课学习做准备。

Step 3: While-reading
【教师活动】
1．让学生快速浏览课文，标出其中的专有名词（各种名字）。
2．师生核对答案，教师就学生不理解之处进行适当解释，帮助学生了解相关背景。这样做是为了不让它们成为学生阅读理解时的绊脚石，尤其是Charles Dickens、A Christmas Carol、Scrooge、Jacob Marley、the Ghost of Christmas Past、the Ghost of Christmas Present和the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come。其他专有名词还有：The Spirit of Christmas、Christmas（Day）、Christmas Eve、Santa Claus。
3．然后根据文章内容，回答下列问题，了解文章的主旨大意。

【教师活动】教师让学生分组进行探究发现，由学生列出他们认为本节课的重点知识。教师最后进行整体讲解。
【学生活动】学生列出他们认为本节课的重点知识，小组讨论，总结归纳，完成学习任务单中的课堂学习任务。在教师讲解后，学生根据自己的实际掌握情况进行查漏补缺。
