教材分析 The article describes in the first person the three challenges that Adam, an American student, faces after entering high school: how to choose courses, how to join the American football team he likes, and how to adapt to the high school life. This paper is a personal statement, divided into four small sections, clear hierarchy, structure. Going from junior high school to senior high school is a really big challenge. The third paragraph is about the choice of extracurricular activities, that is, "I had to choose extra - curricular activities, too.". The fourth paragraph is about how to adapt to the high school life as soon as possible. I'll have to study harder as a senior high school student and get used to being responsible for a lot more. The text content is close to the real life of senior high school students, meets the cognitive needs of senior high school students, and can make students resonate. It is natural for students to compare their situation with Adam and think about how to adapt to high school life as quickly as possible.
学情分析 In junior high school, students have already learned the basic knowledge of English and have a lot of understanding of English reading. However, this section is a deeper and systematic study, which aims to cultivate students’ core literacy of English subjects. Students’ understanding ability is limited and teachers need to be further patient. Teachers should rely on students’ experience and make students feel the fun of learning English through activities.

Have a free talk and speak out something about high school life. Look at the picture and the title, predict what the text will tell them. Arouse their interest in the topic and provide basic information for them. This section is aimed at guiding students to use titles to predict the content of the text.
读中环节 Activity1: Read for the main idea of each paragraph and structure. Activity2: Read for details Read for challenges. Activity3: Read the text again and answer the questions. Read the passages quickly and identify the topic sentence of each paragraph. Then analyze the structure of the text. Locate the details and tell what challenges Adam met as a freshman. Read, think and find out the following questions. This part aims to cultivate students' ability to pay attention to the structure of paragraphs and extract the key words of sentences, so as to pave the way for the following details of reading. Help Ss to have a better understanding of the content in the text, which also prepares Ss for the retelling. This session aims to help them recall what they learnt and develop their critical thinking ability.
