教材分析 The theme of the event is "Write a student profile". The reading material is a letter of advice written by Susan Luo to help a person who is worried due to his friend’s addiction to computer and online games, a problem that students are familiar with. This letter is made up of five parts which are date, greeting, body, close and signature. In addition, knowing what the problem is and how he/ she feels is illustrated in the first paragraph and her advice, reasons and expectations in the second paragraph. Students are expected to write a letter of advice successfully after reading.
学情分析 As freshman in high school, students have strong connection with the topic of teenage issues , which enables them to be interested in class activity. This is the first time that students in senior one have learned to write a letter of advice. So they will be guided to learn to write step by step. By reading, students can learn some expressions of writing. Yet they still lack the ability to well organize the ideas and express themselves in writing. That is to say, students’ thinking ability and learning ability are expected to improve.
学习 目标与核心素养 Language ability Read a letter of advice and gather information. Figure out the organization and language features of a letter of advice. Identify the useful patterns and expressions to make suggestions from the reading text.. Use what you have learned to write a letter of advice.

读中环节 Activity1: Read the text quickly, find the anwers to the following questions and read for the structure. 1.What is Worried Friend’s problem 2.What suggestions does Susan Luo give to Worried Friend 3.What are the key points included in a letter of advice Activity2: Read for language features. Activity3: Learn how to read with the help of expressions and discourse markers. Skim the text and read the passage quickly , finding out the main idea and identify the structure of the text. Find and mark the parts of the letter that match the following points. Circle the expressions of making suggestions. Learn to write good sentences By skimming the passage, they can grasp the main idea and build up a solid foundation for locating the detailed information. Identify language features and get prepared for writing a letter of advice. Ss are able to write with the help of words and expressions learnt from the passage.
读后环节 Activity1: Work in groups. Choose one of the teenagers and discuss his/her problem. Activity2: List possible suggestions and reasons. Activity3: Write. Work in groups to give suggestions by using what they learned in this class. Practice their skills for summary and writing.
作业 Review some expressions to give advice. Rewrite the letter and hand in. Consolidate the knowledge and skills students have learned in this lesson.
板书设计 Remind the students of key information they have got and provide clues for them to write.
