教学目标
通过阅读一篇关于决心的文章，了解决心的意义、类型和对它的看法。
2. 通过快速阅读和仔细阅读文章提高阅读和理解能力，掌握重点词汇（able, promise,improve,physical,themselves,hobby,paint,weekly,schoolwork,question,meaning,discuss）和短语（be able to,at the beginning of,write down,have to do with,take up ）。
3.通过阅读增强学生的目标意识和责任意识。

Why or why not
Encourage students to discuss the questions with their partners and show their discussions.

Show students the learning goals. Students read together.

Give students 5 minutes to read the passage carefully and then translate some words and phrases on their notebooks. Invite 2 students to write on the blackboard. Then show answers and ask them to check answers and correct errors.

Step IV. While-reading and post-reading activities
Fast reading(2b)
Ask students to read the passage and put the sentences(A-D) in the correct places.
2. Careful reading(2c-2e)
(1)Ask students to read again carefully and match each paragraph(1-3) with its main purpose. Underline the words and phrases that helped them decide.
(2)Ask students to read again and discuss the questions in groups:
a. What is a resolution？
b. When do people usually make resolutions
c. Why do people usually make resolutions
d. How can people remember their resolutions
e. How many kinds of resolutions does the writer talk about
f. Why do you think resolutions may be difficult to keep
g. Do you think the best resolution is to have no resolutions Why or why not
评价标准：1.关键词完整正确，书写美观（加2分） 2.关键词不完整，书写不美观（酌情扣分）
3. Ask students to find the following phrases in the passage and write their own sentences with them. Show some students’ answers with the help of the projector.
4.Ask students to find the important and difficult points in the passage and have a discussion in groups. Then the teacher will give students a deep description about the important and difficult points.
⑴promise
　 ①（可数名词）承诺；诺言
Make promises许下承诺；keep/break a promise遵守/违背诺言
　 ②（及物动词）许诺；承诺 常用语以下三种结构：
A.promise to do sth.许诺做某事
My mother promised to buy a piano for me.我妈妈许诺给我买一架钢琴。
B:promise sb. Sth.许诺某人某事
My aunt promised me a bike.我姑姑承诺给我（买）一辆自行车。
C:promise+that从句 承诺......
Tom promises that he is going to learn another foreign language.汤姆承诺要再学一门外语。
(2)have to do with关于；与......有关系
Most of his questions have to do with his lessons.
(3)take up（尤指为消遣）开始做；学着做
I took up the study of English at the age of nine.我九岁开始学习英语。
(4)too...to...太......而不能......too是副词，后跟形容词或副词，to是动词不定式符号，后跟动词原形。
The boy is too young to go to school.这个男孩太小不能上学。
