And the most famous one is the Terracotta Army which is one of wonders in the world. So do you know the Terracotta Army ” （Purpose：通过城市图片，激发学生兴趣，引入西安和兵马俑。） reading Reading 1 (7minutes) Activity 1: T asks Ss to read the passage within 2 minutes about the Terracotta Army in a travel brochure and answer two questions: 1. What can we see in the Terracotta Army？ A. more than 8000 statues B. the Chinese Emperor Qingshihuang C. researchers D. more than 700,000 people. 2. Why the Terracotta Army was made A. Because farmers want to discover it. B. Because researchers want each statue has a different face. C. Because people need to build the tomb as their work. D. Because the tomb of the Chinese Emperor Qingshihuang need to be guarded. Activity 2: T asks another question: What amazes you most why (Time Size History ), and give Ss 2minutes to read the brochure again. Ss should underline relative details about time, size or history. Reading 2 (27minutes) Prediction: Before reading the email written by Richards, T guides Ss to observe the email and answer the following two questions. Q1. What are this passage’s main idea and type Q2. What aspects should be included in a travel plan While-reading: Activity 1: After finishing the two questions, T gives Ss 3 minutes to read the email written by Richards and finish the question: What aspects did Richard’s travel plan talk about T guides Ss to find out these aspects in each paragraph. And then, Ss need to finish the following table. After finishing this table, T guides Ss to think about if the structure is good, and provide a better structure. Finally, as a test, T asks Ss to finish a matching to help Ss to be familiar with the structure. Activity 2: T asks Ss to read the email again. After that, Ss should finish two tasks. Task 1: Circle all predicates in the email and try to find their similarities. T guides Ss to observe their similarities and stresses the special usage of the present progressive form. Task 2: Underline the words and phrases used to express emotion in the email. Then Ss complete the sentences below. T explains the meaning and usage of the two words and how they can be used in a travel plan. Post-reading: T shows sentence patterns and Ss translate sentences according to the sentence patterns. Stay busy throughout the summer holiday. Usually those who struggle (挣扎) on their first days are people who spend too much of their summer holiday indoors and relaxing. So you should try to stay active and busy over the course of the holiday. There are lots of things you can do, such as getting a summer job or taking up a sport.
Continue learning over the summer holiday. People who struggle the most at first are those who aren't learning over the holiday. Learning itself doesn't have to be boring! You can learning about anything you want. Simply keeping your brain in the habit of learning will give you an extra advantage when it's time to go back to school.
Spend time with friends that will attend the same school. If you have any friends living in the same neighborhood, there are chances that you will go to the same school! Make a point of creating stronger bonds (关系) with those friends. Spend part of your summer holiday with them, and grow closer. While there's always some worry about going into the first day of school, having friends around that care about you makes it much easier.
Buy your school supplies. The most important thing you can do in preparation for your first day is make sure you have all of the equipment you need. Though the types of materials you'll need differ from class to class, certain things, like pens and paper, will be used for all classes.
